Delayed, with a silver lining...

November 3, 2015 - UPDATE:
Due to publisher request, both the base edition and Collector's Edition of Hard West are again available 20% off during pre-orders - purchasing the standard edition will no longer grant access to the Collector's Edition of the game.

Daliz: I backed this. Hopefully they'll give GOG keys to backers :)
Yes, you can get a GOG key as a backer if that's your preference.

I guess (or at least hope) that nobody at work is gonna kill me if I proclaim now that I'm one of the developers, I have been working on Hard West for a while now. I'm not a PR person and am not officially here as a representative of CreativeForge but I'll keep an eye on the comments. Some questions I can answer, in case of others I better check with some people at work first. I'll try to make sure that useful feedback makes it to the corresponding guys.

Anyway, whenever you ask yourself "should I buy this game?" please think of poor ol' F4LL0UT. :D

No kidding! Congratulations it looks like a fantastic game! Mind giving a (brief) rundown on the content available outside of the turnbased combat? Even just a quick one sentence sort of "flavor" description?

If not / you can't - no worries at all I promise I'll understand!

Well, I better hold myself back unless I get an okay to talk about this stuff. All I can safely say is what was already apparent in our gameplay footage released so far: expect a pretty dark and hostile world featuring both classic western themes and the supernatural where you get to make quite a few RPG-ish decisions (which, I know, doesn't really say anything).

You're one of the developers? Awesome, I've always respected you on these forums even if I don't agree with everything you say. I might just have to pick this up :)

That and turn based combat is my favorite thing ever.

So is Hard West a Wild West X-COM or is an RPG with choices & consequences?
That looks like a promising game. I will wait for the game to be realeased before making a decision tho. I seldom pre-order games.

some questions
1- I am wondering if the game will be like Wasteland 2. I am hearing it will be like the original Fallouts so this is a logical assumption.

2- Will it be party based or single player? I watched the youtube video but couldnt understand that. It always show only 1 person.

Well, obviously it's a turn-based tactical game first and we refrain from calling it an RPG but as already footage from last year showed and some articles stated, there's some RPG-style decision-making with varying kinds of consequences involved.

I wonder what video you watched, in all official videos showing actual gameplay (such as this one) you can see the player control a group of several characters. The recent trailer, despite being captured directly from the game, obviously doesn't convey much of the gameplay.

You just rocked my world. Who knows how many long-time GoG forumgoers are also developers. Wouldn't it be great if I turned out to be Shigeru Miyamoto?

Well, great for me. Not so great for him.

Thanks for the link and the answer. I love games where you control a party. That was the reason I never really liked Diablo kinda games. I will watch the link now if you excuse me :))

Hickory: More zombies (™). *YAWN!*
To quote our lead designer:
"No worries, no zombie apocalypse. We’re extra careful about that."
and
"There won’t be any brain-eating zombies. I HATE zombies. HATE."

F4LL0UT:
A question for you - if someone wants to support the developer, which is the better move to make? Buying pre-order at a discount, or waiting until release and paying retail price?

Additional - Whoever put the trailer video together might want to go back in, cut out the part that says "welcome to the weird west", then send it back to GOG. Not a professional by any means, but given the base similarities to Deadlands in concept, wouldn't want to see Pinnacle Entertainment Group giving the company grief over it under the heading of "it's not our game, but they're trying to make people think it's connected somehow".

At a glance, Hard West looks better than Wasteland 2.

I backed wl2, but was not interested in the finished product. Was going to try WL2DC, but it is too buggy atm.

markrichardb: A lone stranger enters the bar, his duster billowing in the wind. The piano player ceases playing his jaunty tune and deafening silence blankets the room. An empty bar stool awaits the stranger beside a scratched whisky-stained counter, and he moves purposely towards it, the clinking of his spurs lending his stride an air of confidence.

‘What’ll it be?’ the barkeep asks, eyeing the stranger cautiously while washing a glass with a spit-soaked rag.

‘Whisky’ the stranger grunts.

‘May I suggest something a lil’ different?’ the barkeep inquires, and without pause reaches under the bar to present a copy of Hard West. ‘You look like a hard man; this here’s one of those new-fangled games for folk like you. Supposed to be about gunslingers and magic.’

‘I’ll take 10.’

’10?’ the barkeep exclaims in surprise. ‘Never seen anyone buy 10 before!’

‘I'm very hard’ the stranger says, and with that announcement he slaps some bills onto the counter and walks out the door never to be seen again.
Okay, I kinda liked that. Awaiting Chapter 2.
(you didn't really order 10 did you?)
