Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

Not pre-ordering (ever), but it's really nice to have it here and I'll get it eventually for sure.
i like the single-button-instant-toggle between remastered and original version ala monkey island.. super fun. hope this is the same.
Mind-boggling the number of people who only want this on steam and refuses to buy it on GOG. Must be some weird Martians.
I'm quite glad to see this here (in its rightful place should I say) but as I'm not much of a pnc fan, although I played this game (with a walkthrough of course) and liked it, as it is a preorder without even an incentive and as it's coming from Double Fine which has been pretty dubious recently, and as I'm not particularly impressed with the "remaster", I'll refrain from buying it right away.

But Khudos GOG! :)

Well steam is the granddady of digital distribution (regardless of drm) and gog the little kid from next block :)

where did you see that?
I actually got a classic rerelease of the game together with Monkey Island 3 and Full Throttle in Australia years ago.... still did not play full throttle. will fix it this week.

great great game. will buy this release for the sake of having it :) maybe will play it. I enjoyed the heck out of it the first time i played it in 2009. and when i beat it I decided to create the first "games finished in... " thread.
man. six years eh. maybe i should replay it.

Boils the blood reading some of the replies. It's ok if they want DRM, but don't ever drag me down with them.

Not bad, not bad at all. Pity it's not the original, but better than not at all.

And can someone help me here - what exactly is so special and warrants a pre-order again? Will anything change upon release? I've watched the trailer, but apparently I'm not smart enough.

damien: I would like to remind that all those votes GOG is referring to is for the original version, not remastered.
If you read the OP carefully you'll notice that they don't claim that the votes are for the remastered edition - they do refer to the game as Grim Fandango.

Grargar: By the way, it's not published by LucasArts. Seems like Double Fine bought the rights back.
When did Double Fine ever have the rights to it?

cyboff: Look how clever guys at GOG outsmarted you ;) http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/grim_fandango_hd_remastered
May I say I don't like it too? Yes, I don't like this kind of manipulation with numbers... HD remastered version is not what I'm looking for on GOG after Lucas Arts announcement...

Matruchus: Yes it seems that gog arbitrarly renamed Grim Fandango to Grim Fandango Remastered in the wishlist and as such removed it from there. Bad practice that is. Its funny thought that nobody noticed this since October :)
I don't think it's just a change of the title, going through the comments makes me think that GOG merged the two wishlist entries. Not that it makes it any better, but it's not exactly the same.
Hooray for GOG and DF!

Also, is GOG returning to be Good Old Games? Tim Schafer says so! hehehe ;)
Never got far into Grim Fandango I think I got stuck and ran out of time years ago. Still have it on CD.

Well I'm going to give Tim the benefit of the doubt that he didn't cut any corners and budgeted right, and show my support for a GOG first release for once and pre-order this (credit card has just enough until pay day).

Very happy about the full spectrum of OS support, Win, Mac and Linux plenty of choice.

I didn't even see this coming, guess I should have been paying more attention to double fine, but I work for a living so who has the time to know everything happening out there?
Nice, Grim Fandango, and even better, Day of the Tentacles soon (but was not announced on GOG, probably it will be on Steam only) , finally someone who listen to its fans. On the other side Double Fine has not released anything good since 2009 (Brutal Legend) so why not a remake? or why not 2 or 3 or even more, we can never know, maybe until they will have more inspiration again :)).

Anyway, i buy them all >:)).

Very nice release, looking forward to it ;-)

About the classic release - keep in mind that gog always wants to release working versions, including the bonus stuff. The classic Grim Fandango isn't as easy to bring back like most other LucasArts adventures, as it has it's own engine (I believe residual was the name of it?) and so don't work with ScummVM. As far as I remember getting it to work on modern machines can be very tricky. There is a similar project to ScummVM called ResidualVM, which is working to get all the LucasArts 3D games back to life (Monkey Island 4, Grim Fandango, etc), but there is no stable version released yet. I would be gladful if there is a chance to release a stable version of the classic game in the future, but for now I'm fine with the option to switch back to the old version ingame, especially as there is no option to get the old version on other devices, like ScummVM does.

It's almost as if this would never get to see the light of day, but it's arrival is finally here alas!
