Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

Looking forward to checking it out as I had missed it the first time. Though I'm curious to see an actual comparison between the changes from one to the other.
I tried my hardest not to click that Place Order button. I really did. But it was futile.
What is this "Good Old Games" that Tim keeps referring to? ;)

You might even say it's a Double Fine idea!

Ciris: you can switch to the classic controls & graphics from the remastered version, but it's not fully like switching to the old one entirely.

It's enough to get a feel of how the game looked, but music and some other stuff stays in the remastered version throughout.

mobutu: So it's not like monkey island special edition where you can switch between old edition and new edition at a press of a button?
Well, in my opinion, I do not think that it has much meaning to have something like the retro switching mode in monkey island. Remember:
1) Monkey island was 2d and all backgrounds were completely redesigned and become richer, in addition to their HD resolution, the same stands of the characters both animation wise and facial expressions
2) The original Monkey island had no speech
Those two changes make the original version completely different from the special edition
On the other hand Grim fandango is a game that was made many years later, it used 3d technology with pre-renderes textures and had already speech in tis original version. From what I understand no redesign of backgrounds textures has been made, the only thing that changes in this remastered version is that they are HD now (compared to a standard 640x480 resolution back in the 1997 version). Original speech is there also, from what I undertand, and only music has been re-recorded. So the only significant difference in terms of gaming experience compared to the original version is the new user interface controls that has been, which you can turn off in favor of the old user interface (which I hope to be possible on the fly).
Grim Fandango played with controllers, linux support and drm-free?
Whoa...!
Nice, but I want also the original version GOG!
No incentive to pre-order :(

It's a nice release and I'll probably buy it some day but I already have the disc version (with French voices / texts) and it was pretty fine (no problem to run through the whole game).
Oh man... Grim fandango... finally :)
4 GB of RAM looks really weird among other minimum requirements. It's as much as Far Cry 4 requires.

MasodikTiasma: This isn't even announced on other digitals stores yet! is this gonna be a GOG exclusive on launch? If so, way to go, GOG!

That said, I still have my old disc version, so I guess I'll wait for now. We'll see if this remaster is really well done or not.
As an owner of the original as well, such releases always confuse me a bit as to whether I want them or not...I'm assuming it has no new content?

I'm not sure how meaningful desires for the original version are, considering how it barely works on modern computers (last time I played it was on XP), and the 3rd party VM type softwares (GrimE? I don't remember) isn't really as standard as something like ScummVM yet, is it?

GOG-exclusive pre-order?!

Inb4 Tim decides to add exclusive bonus content to the Steam version. Anyone want to take any bets on the likelihood of that happening? :P

edit: Oh yeah: AWESOME news! A great way to start the new year, gog-guys! Now all I need is Jedi Knight.

high rated
Nice, but after Broken age, I'll rather wait for reviews before I procure another Double fine "gem".

Well its a nice release but won't preorder cause I never played the original and as such have no clue what this game is about. Recent track record of DF (Spacebase DF-9) does not help with that.

Woohoo! Now THIS is what I've been waiting for! lnsta-buy (despite the fact that pay-day is not for another two days).

It would be nice to have the proper, classic version eventually but for now I'm a happy girlie!
