Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

Well guys, I've been on your back about this for about 5 years (as have most of us), thanks for finally coming through.

Come on guys, honestly, I'm shocked that they got Double Fine to bring it here, considering their history with GOG.

Overall this is great. Reserve judgment for after it comes out.

I really really enjoyed the original game. However, I'm going to be somewhat hypocritical here (I pre-ordered Witcher 3) in saying that I agree with Totalbiscuit and Boogie in that pre-ordering is resulting in poorer games.

With regards to DoubleFine, I was very disappointed with Broken Age act 1. I loved the art but from a gameplay perspective it was terribly anaemic and very short.

I hope that GF remastered is a solid release, I hope that DoubleFine have learned the perils of doing business by Kickstarter. I'm going to have to wait until the game is released and reliable reviews come in before I consider buying this game.

xxxIndyxxx: Cool!

Just to be sure: There is zero incentive to pre-order right? Sooooo what's the point...for all we now it's as bad as AC unity...
I could be wrong, but I think pre-orders get it a week early.
Eternal classic..
I like the subtle mentioning of the wishlist as if GOG is in anyway responsible for the remake.
I'll wait a bit for the reviews to come out, remakes are always kind of dicey.
Also I personally don't really 'get' the high levels of love for this title.

drealmer7: You took the mona lisa and gave her a new frame and a veneer finish. That is DESTROYING art, not PRESERVING art.
Wrong. Removing old, darkened veneer and re-applying new, clear veneer to re-seal the painting and occasionally also replacing a frame that has decayed is EXACTLY what restaurateurs do. So that actually is preserving art, not destroying it, which means you got it backwards.

It's a remaster/restoration, not a remake.

Mr.Caine: I thought 14 pages in this thread came from people celebrating that this classic is finally getting a proper re-release.Nop just a whole lot of unjustified bitching.
It's not a re-release of a classic.
It's the first release of a remake.

If there's any site where people are justified to bitch about that, it's GOG (at least, that "o" used to stand for old).

Personally I don't mind, as I have the real game on CD-ROM. But generally speaking, as a gamer, I would appreciate more if they released the original (possibly with optional ResidualVM mouse hacks and stuff).

Honestly, Monkey Island remakes were worse than the originals. Broken Sword remasters were worse than the originals. Leisure Suit Larry remake either was or wasn't better, depending on who you ask, and whether you compare it with the original original or the original remake.

Anyway, if this game were to be undeniably better than the original, I think it would be the first time in the adventure genre.
People do have the right to be skeptic about this.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
What a GREAT SUPRISE! WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

...sorry, I am so excited right now!

Meh, it only includes a single wallpaper as a goodie.

doubt we get the soundtrack.we didnt with Brutal legend.dont DF use their own inhouse musicians however?
It really is amazing we get releases like this at all with all the whining the vocal minority engages in. I'm doubly surprised they are releasing it on GoG.
Sooo any Linux fans excited about the Linux version of Grim Fandango Remastered? I for one can't wait to try it out on my home install :D
