Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

Almost forgot about that Z release....

zeffyr: C'mon, like for real? Read again - I am grateful to GOG because they're doing fantastic work. You don't have to.

You clearly came to whine and you did it. What would GOG have to do in order to please you, I don't know. And I don't want to ;-)
Isn't it easier to just say that everyone who disagrees with you are "whining"? You don't have to come up with anything thoughtful to say then, can just dismiss them instead, that's much easier.

And what GOG have to do in order to please me? Give me what I want I guess. And sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. In this case they don't so I'm displeased. But I guess life goes on, even without Grim Fandango...

moonshineshadow: English only? Meh... I'll stick to my ancient pc and original disk. For me nostalgic games are a no go without the language I originally played them with.
avatar
Grargar: Check again. It's now in German, too.
That is a nice thing to see when arriving back home. Now there is one game less to worry about when my ancient pc for old games finally stops working.

Djungelurban: Content-wise yes, but not execution-wise... It's a record of gaming history and I want it portrayed in it's original form, not with a shiny new gloss of paint over it.
But to get it to work on modern computers they'd have to change it (or pack it with something like GrimE or ResidualVM or something). No point in having original files just for show, when you wouldn't be able to run the game.

Well as close as technically possible atleast... Which a remake isn't...
Still got the original discs and box but i'm going to get this nonetheless, thanks gog and double fine!

Rixasha: There's a number of game re-releases that have "new and improved" music that then turns out to be quite the disappointment for everyone who heard the original first.

PraetorianWolfie: Care to provide an example?
The first that I can think of is Alone in the Dark, where the original music is gone and the CD audio tracks are bland. There's a wishlist entry here to provide the floppy version.

I don't have the Monkey Island special editions - I hear they can be hacked into something better - but at least the Bounty Pack version of MI1 only seems to have CD audio. I'm pretty sure I have more of similar.

There's also been a lot of noise lately about how the 1998 versions of X-Wing and TIE-fighter replace dynamic music with looping CD audio of generic star wars score.

You are misinformed, GoG at the end of the day are not here to please you. They are a digital storefront and a business and are trying to make money within the confines of parameters they have set up (no DRM for instance). This game qualifies.

I think it's amazing how some here have this glorified view of GoG and have a say in what titles they should and should not sell. No other store gets this kind of scrutiny btw.

darthspudius: Reading through this thread, it is amazing how ungrateful some people really are.
And in the wishlist. Why can't they just be happy that Grim Fandango will finally be available in gog?
I couldn't care less if they change the name to Grim Fandango Ultimate Super Edition Plus, the important thing is that I can buy this (never played the game before). :)
Good enough. Looking forward to it.

this is not a remake, this is a restoration/remaster

Ehum, I didn't say they have to please me. I was asked what they would have to in order to please me and I answered, but they don't "need" to please me specifically really, I'm just one person...

They do need to please their customers all mass though, otherwise they won't get any business and go under. Games are their goods of course, but ultimately what ensures their continued business is satisfied customers. Cause if they don't have that people will move away from the site and eventually they won't have any business at all eventually. Sure, the lack of original Grim Fandango will hardly do that, not even I'm going to stop using them because of this specifically, but they're certainly in the business of pleasing their customers.

I can only think of Monkey Island's 2 case; the original music was still there when you switched to the classic version but they had to drop the iMuse seamless transitions system).
Silent Hill HD Collection
I was writing a lengthier reply but browser crashed.

I guess the gist of it is that I trust that the orchestral remake is going to be immensely better than the original ost (which is indeed great) and not at all a rushed job.
The composer Peter McConnell for the original OST is involved in the remastered version as indicated in the making of videos and that panel at Pax Prime '14), so this in my book is a very good sign.
Other than that, we will just have to wait a bit and see/hear how it turned out.
