Grim Fandango resurrected.

Grim Fandango Remastered marks the return of gaming's most recognisable, and notoriously unavailable, cult classic - now on Windows, Mac, and Linux. This upcoming release got everybody so excited, Tim Schafer even prepared a special trailer all about how you can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered (and why that’s a fine idea) right now, exclusively on GOG.com for the first week!

Grim Fandango is by far the single most wishlisted game by the GOG.com community with an overwhelming 45,000 votes. It's a unique blend of Mexican folklore with film noir stylings, and has been critically praised for its art direction, writing, and memorable characters.

Grim Fandango Remastered refreshes, refines, and remasters the award winning title and Tim Schafer's last hurrah as LucasArts' adventure-gaming-extraordinaire. The remaster modernizes the game's presentation and gameplay with completely repainted textures, widescreen support, and quite possibly best of all: modern controls. You can now say goodbye to unwieldy tank controls, a staple of the early 3D era, and enjoy a fully point-and-click interface - but only if you want! The option to play the game as originally envisioned is always there.

Have you missed Grim Fandango the first time around? Now's your chance to experience gaming history like never before, or if you have played it in its heyday - you're probably long overdue for another go anyway. You can pre-order Grim Fandango Remastered right now on GOG.com!
The pre-order will last until Tuesday, January 27, when the game is expected to launch on GOG.com.

It took a lot to bring this classic back to life. If you’d like to learn more about the remaster, Double Fine and 2 Player Productions have just released the newest episode of The Making of Grim Fandango Remastered - a recommended watch.

Oh, GOG, you spoil us.

mkell_226: As awesome as this is, I can't help but notice that there seems to be no advantage to ore-ordering; no discount, no exclusive goodies, nothing!
Yeah, I don't understand why they're doing "pre-orders" if there is no physical part of the game that can run out of inventory.
Just like for Monkey Island, will wait for original version...

LynetteC: but there are many of us who have not been as fortunate and would still like to experience this classic the way it was originally envisioned by the developers.
For what is worth, as someone who has played the original version multiple times, what I see in the screenshots and short gameplay videos released for the remastered game, is exactly as I remember the game to be.

Obviously they have improved small stuff (ligthing, UI, optional mouse controls), but nothing that has changed significantly the game from the original version.

I guess I believe that if you play through the remastered version, you are still playing the exact same game the way its developers envisioned it - and then some, as they had the time to refresh and tweak it a bit- and there will be no reason to seek out the original anymore.

Just to point out that there won't be any original version. Check gog wishlist where they explain that they think that by releasing a remastered edition they fullfiled the wish for original edition too and probably won't be doing anything to get it here. Also they pushed all the votes from the original version to votes for remastered.

high rated
As others have pointed out, the wishlist votes is for the ORIGINAL game. Not remastered version. This applies to other games on the list as well. No offence .

darthspudius: Fuck buying the original, there is the disc version for that. Bring it on. A remastered edition is exactly what it needs after all it did not age very well in the first place.

LynetteC: If you can find / have found the original disc version at an acceptable price then good for you, but there are many of us who have not been as fortunate and would still like to experience this classic the way it was originally envisioned by the developers.

Having said that, the remake will be a more than adequate substitute for now. :-)
but they have stated for ages now that this is what they wanted the game to be. So what difference does it make.

Well, then piracy is a solid option two...

Weird.

Edit: they probably pushed all the votes because they're using it as a marketing point.

Well I reopened the wish for the original version for all who wan't to see it here:

Link: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/games/grim_fandango_original_version

The remake only had a couple of votes. The rest from 46901 votes come from the original votes.

Since this is a worrisome occassion anybody who is against community votes manipulation from gogs side can vote here for that:

Look the Original version is an absolute cow to get working on a Modern system This Video will show you what I mean

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYwjNKMvb5I

Always try to run it in compatibility mode (95 or 98)

for the sound and crashing problem, use this:

http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grim_Fandango#Sound_crashing_and_freezing

*Try running the launcher in Admin-mode if you're having problems.

http://demos.residualvm.org/patches/gfupd101.exe

and even then There is STILL PROBLEMS!

Invisible Characters!

Yeah It happened to me too Invisible characters in Hardware accelerated version had to play in software Mode!

babark: I'm not sure how meaningful desires for the original version are, considering how it barely works on modern computers (last time I played it was on XP), and the 3rd party VM type softwares (GrimE? I don't remember) isn't really as standard as something like ScummVM yet, is it?
I vaguely remember playing it on my Win7 computer 2 or 3 years ago... but I could be mistaken. I'll try to launch the game tonight and I'll keep you posted.

It's not possible to release the original Grim Fandango on GOG. Please read the info from the wishlist:

1. The aim of the Wishlist is to let you vote on games that we will be able to release. With the release of Grim Fandango Remastered (with its functionality to return some of the old version's style with changing to old controls/graphics), it's highly unlikely (if not a complete 0%) that we'll ever publish Grim Fandango in its original. 2. We do not have any way to access Grim Fandango in its original to test, publish and sell/distribute on GOG. 3. There are virtually no plot differences between the original and the remastered version, characters and motives remain the same - making it further unlikely that we'll have the original on the site. 4. The original wish also referred to including the old version with the new, which is something we, in a way, fulfilled by the remastered version allowing for changes to old graphics+controls & not changing the plot and feel of the game.

C'mon guys, don't whine! The game is coming! :)
