Beware the Black Death, destroyer of kingdoms.

Grand Ages: Medieval a global strategy game of war and economics, is available for pre-order now, DRM-free on GOG.com with a 15% discount.

How do you feel about gameplay on a grand scale? Well, Grand Ages: Medieval is ready to tickle your fancy of grandeur. There are hundreds of settlements, and over 30,000,000 Square Kilometers of Europe, Africa, Middle East and Scandinavia - and when you zoom in on your local lumberjacks going about their day, the immensity of it all immediately hits home.
Grand Ages: Medieval is first and foremost a game of economics and city building. You'll start out with a lonely settlement to build up from scratch, while slowly building up trade networks and relationships with neighboring, up-and-coming kingdoms, just like yours. The goal? Total domination, obviously. But whether you set out to to achieve medieval superiority through trade and coin, or sword and shield - the choice is yours to make.

On top of the 15% discount, the pre-order comes with two in-game DLCs "Camelot" and "Ancient Wonders", as well as the original soundtrack!

Pre-order Grand Ages: Medieval now on GOG.com. The pre-order deal will last until the game's release.

DrIstvaan: About the pre-order extra DLCs: they are confirmed by the devs to NOT change anything in the gameplay, one will only alter your castle's outlook and the other just adds some extra visuals to the map, but they don't change anything.

hafizadam: From Kalypso forum

What do you need regarding the two exclusive DLCs?
General information?
If this is the case, here you go:

Both are customization DLCs and won't have any impact on the gameplay.
- "Camelot" will change your first/starting city into a huge and beautiful castle (even in MP-matches Wink )
- "Ancient Wonders" will place world wonders around your map, such as e.g. the Sphinx in egypt.

Hope this is what you were looking for.

cheers,
Unerde

Thanks, but I didn't *need* information - I was trying to give info I had to people wondering about whether the DLCs change anything in the gameplay ;).

HypersomniacLive: Not anymore!

PaterAlf: As expected.

Will wait till it shows up in a bundle then or till I can get it dirt cheap in pinata/mutator/luck of the Irish or whatever-it-is-called-in-the-future-promo.
Now I am a little bit sad. Was too good to be true. But considering how soon Tropico 5 got 75% off, one might not have to wait too long for the right price.

haha misread the 'they are..." as "are they..." =P
well I guess double announcement is better anyway :)
To address questions about the DLCs being available later (or not), they're only going to be available for the pre-order period, as per the publisher's strategies for all outlets.

I think that maybe at some point these DLCs might be available in some complete/deluxe/ultimate edition, but that's nothing confirmed and just a wild guess based on trends on the gaming market.

This sucks honestly. Well, then I'll wait for the "Complete" or whatever equivalent version as I hate these preorder practices.
high rated
That kind of pre-order practice actually makes me even less likely to pre-order.
Ciris, are you able to say why the Linux version isn't available here? On Steam it's listed as available for Windows & Linux

I know I'm a pain when it comes to ask for linux support, since I love to play gog games on my linux rigs, even though my favorite one, my loving desktop, is a wee bit rusty.
My guess is that -depite "my" "comic strip"- GOG/Kalypso will provide drm free linux ports, since we'll see probably the biggest deal in linux gaming next november :D

I'd LOVE to get home after a busy day and kick my feet up/boot up some drm free Dungeons 2/controller in my hands :D
No joke!

Perhaps, but it seems like it's becoming something of a regular occurrence for new releases to be available for Linux on Steam etc. but not on GOG - most recently Grand Ages: Medieval, Dungeons 2, Crookz, and Victor Vran etc. (and I also notice a couple of games in the "upcoming" tab are Windows-only here while their Steam store pages say Win+Mac+Linux) :/
@vicklemos - comic made me lol!

@adamhm

My hunch is that the devs (of these titles) are using Steam's runtime to a degree and this makes bringing those titles to other distribution platforms difficult.

Dev's on Vran: "The Steam Linux build relies heavily on the Steam runtime to smooth over differences between different Linux distros. We'll need some time to get the game running without it. Sorry!"

In the end I purchased Vran on Steam and have pre-ordered this title there also.

Not ideal but...

I would appreciate an official response too though - Ciris?

I'm glad!
Well my unnofficial "gogrep" among the Gog staff must have reached an all time low after this comic! They clicked on kalypso.png and went like "oh no not this dude again" :P
Didn't mean to hassle, though. I hope the ports will be here asap :D

AFAIK there's nothing stopping developers from bundling the Steam runtime with their game if they need to (although in my experience it's not really necessary, at least for Ubuntu/Ubuntu-based distros - I'm yet to encounter any games that strictly need it / have issues without it at least). It's essentially a collection of Ubuntu libraries anyway

Hmmm, if that's all correct (and I'm not saying it isn't - I just don't know) then it makes the quote from the Vran dev seem a bit odd doesn't it!!

gamesfreak64: thats funny indeed, but i see old games like jagged alliance also tagged as modern.
the price is very modern: 36 euros listprice

is this an AAA game ? the price is quit high if its not an AAA game.
avatar
Huinehtar: I don't see the problem with Modern tag for Jagged Alliance. The setting is modern, not medieval nor have spaceships.

And I don't see either why that price should only be accepted for AAA games.
ja is indeed a modern setting , guns bazookas, i totally forgot that thanks for the reminder.

about (very) high prices for non AAA games

telepath tactics is one of my favo games, so is Rebuild 3: Gangs of Deadsville
and more newer games like the wadjet eye games,
paying 30 or 40 or maybe 70 euros would be very much asked for a game like that
c&c baldurs, fallout, and all that old good game stuff, these were worth it to fork out a lot of cash,
lets say every game no matter how good has its own max. price someone is willing and mores important also able to pay for.

I pay no more then 15 euros for a good casual game (cd/dvd) (those games are not on gog unless you consider braveheart and all non 3d towerdefense games as casuals)
Usually its 6 tot 7 euros for 1 single casual game (usually retail) and sometimes digital.
Games like jagged, fallout , commandos (no 3d) and all good games from that era easily justified a price of 69 tot 129 guilders back then.
In euros that would be max, 30 to 40 bucks for one drm free game.
Even if i were a gazillionaire i would still have certain prices that i would be ready to spend on certain things.
Its not that i would spend 300 euros on 1 game or so just because i was loaded :D
Definitely a game for me when it delivers what it promises. But for now they don't want me to buy it.

Right, in only a few years I already might be able to buy a complete, flat priced Linux version of the game which even contains the exclusive pre-order DLCs. :P
