And way down we go.

Descent (2019) is now available for pre-order DRM-free. Grab it until November 20th, 6PM UTC and get Descent 3 for FREE. Owners of Descent: Underground will also receive Descent 2019 (+ Descent 3) in their library.
If you already own Descent 3, please contact Support to get a code for a friend.

When thrilling dogfights and six degrees of freedom fell for each other, Descent began! Now it returns with gusto: pick a class, jump inside one of 20 customizable ships and fly down to the ruthless underground where a battle over resources rages in single-player and multiplayer mode.
All of my experience with 6DoF games have been in SP only. I simply don't do multiplayer in any game.

So I'll wait and see how the campaign gets reviewed before I buy this.

Last I heard, the focus was almost entirely on MP with this game, not sure if they ever changed that.

morrowslant: Think he's talking about OVERLOAD, the game made by former Volition/Parallax dudes.
OVERLOAD is really good.

Zoidberg: Actually I was thinking of sublevel zero...
Cool. Really need to check out sublevel zero, overload is pretty much descent 3 updated to 2017/2018 era modern graphics + win10 support. Haven't tried overload multiplayer yet.
GOG.com: Owners of Descent: Underground will also receive Descent 2019 (+ Descent 3) in their library.

I bought the indev game at GOG, but after it imploded and was removed from the site I never expected to hear about it again.

It really doesn't matter now, because I find Overload to be the definitive new Descent game anyway. Good thing Little Orbit jacked up the price, that will encourage more unsuspecting buyers to pass on this failed game.

richlind33: Were people who bought the in-dev version given refunds?
I hope they won't need refunds, but will be given the new game instead. Everything else would be ridiculous.
This isn't a straight-up remake/remaster of the original Descent, so why isn't this called Descent 4? Why the unnecessary confusion? I don't want to have to refer to this as "Descent 2019" from now on (and possibly the original game as "Descent 1995") - that's just irritating.

Why in christ's name do publishers/developers have this bizarre (perhaps even pretentious) habit of naming their sequels like this?

EDIT: Okay, so this was originally called Descent: Underground? Again, why the name change?

Descent never had enough of a storyline or other continuity to matter. Calling it Descent 4 is about as meaningful as calling it Descent 2019.

I'm not a fan of having to sort through competing versions of something with the same title, but there are some valid business reasons game and movie studios choose to do it. The people who come up with titles have to consider whether being part of a series will attract more players than it intimidates. With a long dormant series like Descent, they would want maximum appeal to newer players. They would also want to indicate to old players that this is a fresh start rather than a retro revival.
Pre-order done right! No ingame bonuses which you never ever can obtain in the future, and a bonus game which is nice I guess for those who don't own it.
Other remakes.
More reboots.
Additional remasters.

Meh.
I wander how this game will stack up to overload.

blotunga: Pre-order done right!
Pre-order can NEVER be done right. It's a scummy practice that needs to die along with loot boxes and DRM.

Which will never be released under that name.

Which is nothing but Descent: Underground that has been renamed. So those who pre-ordered Descent: Underground should expect to actually get it at some point in the future. Don't make it sound like actually giving pre-orderers a game that they ordered is some kind of bonus! ;-)

That being said: Overload looks way better AND they released a demo. I'm not going to buy this until it is A) released and B) I have played a demo of it!

You don't have to do do it. I might be inclined to think that this is one of the better pre-orders but I also agree that pre-orders in general are not a good idea and only something for the hardcore, need to support the devs really very urgently fans. Pre-orders with exclusive content are even a no go.

But as far as this pre-order goes, we can just ignore it and wait for the release. I didn't pre-order for at least 10 years. There is no gain from it.
Got the entire Descent series, plus Overload; this, and forsaken is an insta-buy for next month! Though the voice work in the preview sounds as though the protagonist is an 18 yr old office temp...

Considering that it's already the second pre-order for the same game, I disagree on this point.

Well, i imagine it's basically a "goodie" (the beta build) to the people who got it early access. I have a folder marked "descent_underground" in my gog directory. I'm guessing that it'll end up in a new folder.
