Near-death experience.

Death's Gambit is now available for pre-order DRM-free on GOG.com. Pre-order now to get the Chosen of Death pack, which includes a scythe, a shield, and a kickass mount.

In the decaying land of Siradon, if you want to beat Death, you must first become him. Customize your condemned champion by picking your class, build, and weapons, but make sure your skills are as sharp as your scythe. The cursed creatures and hulking bosses that roam this land will show you no mercy and to achieve immortality you must become a master of your craft, as ruthless and effective as the one you serve.
Trailer on article page is for Death's Gambit but the trailer on store page is for Phantom Doctrine.
Interesting, i will put this on my wishlist because it looks like something i would have fun playing.
Where is the card slinging Cajun with the big pole?
Pre-Order Bonus, everyone's favorite three words
I like how this looks.
Loving the style - visually it's quite impressive. Looks so much better than the usual low-effort 'retro' stuff.

And it aims to be a 2D Dark Souls?

Sold. :)

At a first glance the style looked rather inconsistent, but after checking out more of the screenshots, I have to say the quality of their designs as well as their animations goes well beyond the usual retro Indies. And yeah, the Dark Souls influence seems obvious, even if they didn't explicitly mention it on the store page. I guess technically it is closer to games such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which in turn inspired the devs of Dark Souls. Anyhow, looks very interesting indeed!

This, gone from maybe some point after release, to not on your nelly. Chalk one lost sale up to industry anti consumer practices.
The store page does not list "controller support" as a feature. Is this game going to have that or not? Given the type of game it is, whether it has controller support or not is crucial information that the customer needs to know.
Glad you guys decided to bring it here after all. Still looks great

I've thought Dark Souls seemed an evolution of Zelda since I first played it, but you're right - the Castlevania influence is there as well.

Death's Gambit seems to be an actual Souls-like, meaning it has the core mechanics and concepts of the Soulsborne games (but with a twist to keep things fresh):

While not a critical feature, I'm hoping there are different mounts to acquire. Both the starting mount and the preorder mount look great, but I'd love to have a Nightmare, too!
Hmmm. For whatever reason it reminds me of a 2D version fo Darksiders + a bit of Castlevania + Dante's Inferno.

If sure looks nice.

Modern Zelda for the basics of the combat system, but the rest seems to be based on games such as Castlevania and Diablo. Plus, the From Software devs seem to be big fans of old-school ( 1st Person ) Western RPGs, as you can tell by their older releases, before the Souls series. I think that explains why many of their design choices seem strange or old fashioned, when compared to the work of most other modern AAA studios. ( The lack of auto-maps, in example, or the overall difficulty and complexity of their games. )

But back on topic, I think it's quite remarkable this game has horses or similar creatures to ride on at all. Not a common choice in this type of game, so I wonder how that aspect of the gameplay will work out.

As for the pre-order bonus -- Not a fan of that either, but at least it seems to be mostly cosmetic? Besides, it might be available for purchase as a separate add-on after the game's release, or better yet, all of that content might already be in the game, just not normally available right at the beginning.
Very happy to see the game come here. Can't wait to pay it.
