What possible harm can one crazy, mutant tentacle do?

Day of the Tentacle, the grand return of the grandest adventure of all, is available for pre-order now, only on GOG.com with a 10% discount for the first two weeks!

A crazy mutant tentacle is on the loose, plotting to take over the world. How you ask? That's not important right now! We need to be thinking about the how, just how are we going to fix this? Super simply, by going back to yesterday!

Alongside Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle sits without question among the legendary golden-era adventures. Now, straight from the early '90s, Day of the Tentacle arrives in our dystopian future of 2016 — back for a blast from the past for those who missed it, and a shot of nostalgia for those who just miss it.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion. Your pre-order also comes with three exclusive Day of the Tentacle wallpapers, available right away to fuel your anticipation.

But don't take our word for it. Take it from the guy behind it all:

Welcome back to the Day of the Tentacle, available for pre-order now, exclusively on GOG.com! The pre-order discount will last for two weeks, until March 22, 8:59 PM GMT.

SoanoS: What was wrong with the old version?
It wouldn't fill Tim Schafer's pockets as much.

SoanoS: I don't know if it is just the cynical old me but I am a bit reserved towards these "remasters".

What was wrong with the old version? It had SVGA graphics and there was voice acting in it already so I can not really see much justification for the "remastering" other than getting an excuse to slap a full-price price-tag on an old game for minimum effort. The only valid reason I could possibly imagine is to make it more accessible for less tech-savvy people, but then again, if they could not get the game to run the difficulty of the game might be too much for them.

Personally I feel €14.99 is a bit steep for it so I will probably give it a miss for now.
maybe, just maybe, if the remaster had a better controls than "click open click bag click use click dog", these would be more appealing to me ;)

eriktorbjorn: Actually it should work in ScummVM 1.8.0 that was released a few days ago, if you configure it right. (See the README file for details.) Perhaps not quite as seamlessly as the original, but hopefully good enough.
Well, that's a pleasant surprise.

gamesfreak64: maybe it will...
Yep, but I meant in a short time frame, the news is already 4hours old and we haven't reached the bar yet. Bloody Americans must wake up ^o^

oksapoiss: Considering Tim made the game I don´t understand the sentiment. Unless it is something-something-gamergate.

lostwolfe: it is something-something $3 million and counting for a game he split in half.
it is something-something spacebase df-9.
it is something-something him setting up fig and telling people he wants $2 million for a second psychonauts.

i could go on, but i imagine you get the picture.
Nope don't see it

"it is something-something $3 million and counting for a game he split in half. "
(not a problem, play both halves together)

"it is something-something spacebase df-9."
(was a problem, not good)

it is something-something him setting up fig and telling people he wants $2 million for a second psychonauts.
(I'd like to think he learnt from the first unscoped game and hopefully scoped this one out properly, I'll wait and see what happens there).

Double fine have their problems, project management and scope issues, but in truly arbitrary figures I'd say 50% more dislike than is justified.

I did however watch some of the documentary series on the game making so feel a bit more sympathy and investment with the staff at double fine. Unlike others I don't want to see double fine disappear and their employees lose their jobs. I'm not saying you want this but I see that kind of sentiment often. Of course people don't think about the employees somehow Tim is the only one.
So what does this version add thats not in the original game?
I have a rule of not pre-ordering games.. with very few exceptions. This is one of those exceptions for me.
Insta-buy :)
Pretty cool to be able to buy so many games I can't play.

The voice acting of the old version was indeed one of the best of these days. Difficult to top actually. Indeed Day of Tentacle did age quite well. They did not make many improvements apparently and that is probably because there is not so much to improve. So while nothing really speaks against this remastered version, it may be a bit overpriced for the little additional value.

And I would probably vote to keep the original voices. They were really quite good. I hope it can be selected in the preferences.

groze: Oh, trust me, it will reach 100 posts soon enough; with all the Double Fine and Tim Schafer hate in this community, it's just a matter of time.

Just wait until more people wake up/leave work to notice Double Fine is releasing a game for the usual "Tim can't be trusted", "Double Fine lost all its PRINCIPLES", "GOG lost all its PRINCIPLES", "this game is too expensive for an old game", "GOG, another pre-order, seriously?, pre-orders are killing the industry, I never pre-order", "why don't they release the GOOD OLD CLASSIC version instead of this travesty?", "why don't they release the GOOD OLD CLASSIC version alongside this travesty?", and so on. You know... the usual GOG Forum drama.

[EDIT] I forgot the good ol' whiney "oh, another point & click adventure. Meh".
What, another "Remaster" version? And another adventure? Damn, again those developers sell old wine in new bottles.
