What possible harm can one crazy, mutant tentacle do?

Day of the Tentacle, the grand return of the grandest adventure of all, is available for pre-order now, only on GOG.com with a 10% discount for the first two weeks!

A crazy mutant tentacle is on the loose, plotting to take over the world. How you ask? That's not important right now! We need to be thinking about the how, just how are we going to fix this? Super simply, by going back to yesterday!

Alongside Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle sits without question among the legendary golden-era adventures. Now, straight from the early '90s, Day of the Tentacle arrives in our dystopian future of 2016 — back for a blast from the past for those who missed it, and a shot of nostalgia for those who just miss it.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion. Your pre-order also comes with three exclusive Day of the Tentacle wallpapers, available right away to fuel your anticipation.

But don't take our word for it. Take it from the guy behind it all:

Welcome back to the Day of the Tentacle, available for pre-order now, exclusively on GOG.com! The pre-order discount will last for two weeks, until March 22, 8:59 PM GMT.

plagren: Yeah... the description says "hand painted", but it looks vectorized.

I own the original, but a digital copy would've been nice - if it were cheaper or actually looked better. Oh well.
Spot on.

It doesn't look hand painted at all, it really does carry the distinctive off-kilter blobbiness of something that's been cheaply vectorized.

Definitely looks like they put work into the graphics, unlike the Monkey Island remake. Some details seem a bit off (the biggest issue being the faces), but it's certainly better than what I could have hoped for.

I assume this comes packed in with the original DOS version?

j0hn: No OS X or Linux support? *yawn* and pass. Awesome game though.
Regarding the official webpage there is also a mac version coming, but it seems so far no word about linux :
[i]Day of the Tentacle was Tim Schafer’s first game as co-project lead, and a much beloved cult classic! This special edition has been lovingly restored and remade with the care and attention that can only come from involving the game's original creators. It’s coming to Windows, OSX, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita in March 2016!

I really liked the Grim Fandango remake, mostly the new interface and graphics were well done and the original version was problematic to run on newer system (I know about ResidualVM, but still). In this case I'm unsure, as I really like the old graphic style and the game runs great with scummvm on many different system. So, if there is any chance, please gog try to offer also the original version.
Buy eventually? Absolutely. Pre-order? Absolutely not. No way, Jose. No chance, Lance. Nyet. Negatori. Mm-mm. Nuh-uh. Uh-uh. And of course, my own personal favorite of all time, man falling off of a cliff. Nooooooooo!

i was totally on board with this...

...until it was double fine.

not buying until gog has a fire sale and this is dirt cheap.

i refuse to give [too much] money to tim.

tburger: Does it REALLY support XP but does NOT support Linux - or it's just inconsistency on gamecard?

Is Maniac Mansion a separate game that runs in SCUMMVM or it's placed 'inside' DoT?

lostwolfe: it's "inside" dott. as you roam around the world, you'll find a way to play it.
Yeah, the fourth screenshot shows where to go ;-)

Is that what people call the HQx filter these days?

To be fair, it looks like they traced over the HQx filter rather than using it directly and it's definitely MUCH better than the travesty that is the re-interpreted Monkey Island 1 & 2 artwork.

I've only pre-ordered one game this year and that is the Nova Covert Ops DLC for Starcraft 2.

And its the only Modern Game I have ever pre-ordered.

Experiment513: Yay!

On the other hand.. where are the other LucasArts classics? :( Geif Monkey Island 3!!!

Hecke: Indy 3.... And all the rest.
Unless GOG would offer the censored version, Indy 3 wouldn't be available in Germany anyway.

Definitely not just a filter (perhaps a filter with a lot of cleaning up, though). This is what it would look like if it were just a filter. As you can see, a lot of weird shapes, which the Remastered DoTT doesn't have.
I'll wait for a 75% off. Grim Fandango was a buggy mess on release, also DF games drop in price very soon.
The game is awesome anyway.

Considering Tim made the game I don´t understand the sentiment. Unless it is something-something-gamergate.
