What possible harm can one crazy, mutant tentacle do?

Day of the Tentacle, the grand return of the grandest adventure of all, is available for pre-order now, only on GOG.com with a 10% discount for the first two weeks!

A crazy mutant tentacle is on the loose, plotting to take over the world. How you ask? That's not important right now! We need to be thinking about the how, just how are we going to fix this? Super simply, by going back to yesterday!

Alongside Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle sits without question among the legendary golden-era adventures. Now, straight from the early '90s, Day of the Tentacle arrives in our dystopian future of 2016 — back for a blast from the past for those who missed it, and a shot of nostalgia for those who just miss it.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion. Your pre-order also comes with three exclusive Day of the Tentacle wallpapers, available right away to fuel your anticipation.

But don't take our word for it. Take it from the guy behind it all:

Welcome back to the Day of the Tentacle, available for pre-order now, exclusively on GOG.com! The pre-order discount will last for two weeks, until March 22, 8:59 PM GMT.

Finally, Maniac Mansion! Now we just have to pray it doesn't release and remain in a really buggy state. I'm a bit cautious of this considering Grim Fandango still hasn't been fully patched.

tburger: Does it REALLY support XP but does NOT support Linux - or it's just inconsistency on gamecard?

Is Maniac Mansion a separate game that runs in SCUMMVM or it's placed 'inside' DoT?
avatar
skimmie: MM is placed 'inside' DOTT (at least it was in the original version). Once you advance far enough in Day of the Tentacle, there is a computer somewhere that allows you to play Maniac Mansion.
How far do you have to play and could you save progress in that version of Maniac Mansion in the original DotT?

gscotti: Am I the only one who'd much rather play the original for a bit less money?
I'd prefer to get the original version too. This is just another pointless "remastered" version IMO and i just hope it won't be as buggy as Grim Fandango.

But at least i still have the original CD version so i'm not buying this "remastered" version anyway. :D

darthspudius: But its like not jaggy and low resolution. That is not the authentic experience! *rolls eyes*
avatar
seppelfred: But you can also play it with the old graphics. Haven't you watched the video?
*face palm* I know that... it appears others don't.

It is far from pointless. The only people that find this pointless are the over entitled old game snobs who want the "original" version with everything.

In the original Dott you could actually access the Maniac Mansion game from outside, as it was a separate file (you just had to rename its extension to ".exe"), and as far as I remember, saving was possible.

Thanks, that gives me some idea of what to expect as i've only ever played the NES console port. Now to decide if I want to take a risk preordering a potentially buggy game.

SoanoS: I don't know if it is just the cynical old me but I am a bit reserved towards these "remasters".

What was wrong with the old version?
He couldn't milk us for both the pc version and the mobile version if he offered the original DOS version. You can run the original on anything that can run DOSBOX after all.

It would be nice if they would add it as a free bonus ;)

Wishlisted, will definitely buy it sooner or later.

And people who don't want to deal with the new bugs present in the remastered version.

But you can't run the original with the remixed, high quality voice audio from the original recordings.

This right here. It would be easier on everyone if they just released the originals I would think, but I guess i'll have to settle and hope for the best as it seems they have no intention of releasing the originals. :\

Please tell me that this will as well include other languages. DOTT is one of THE greatest adventures ever and as well as in the classic version will also inlude Maniac Mansion. Both absolutely must haves for every adventure freak like me. I am pretty sure that it had at least forgeign language subtitles when it was released. I have not read all postings regarding this so in case this has already been cleared up sorry for this.

I like remasters: It gives future generations the opportunity to play classic games, without having to bother with technical issues or putting up with badly aging aesthetics and controls.

But hey, if you don't like games getting a fresh coat of paint, you can always go back to the older article. Just stop shaking your cane at younger folks: It would likely convince them that your preferred games are overrated, and should join the trilobite. The values and things you enjoyed won't be adopted by new developers, who would pursue things that have embraced them.

After all, driving away young folk is a great way to preserve your cultural values and history...right?
A wishlist entry already exists for the non-remastered edition if someone wants to vote for that.

That said, I'll see if I can't eventually get my hands on both. I like the look of the remaster. I'd also like to run the original on my Dreamcast just for the hell of it (thanks to whoever supports it in ScummVM). I mean, why not? :)
Great game on the glory graphic adventure days ^_ ^
