What possible harm can one crazy, mutant tentacle do?

Day of the Tentacle, the grand return of the grandest adventure of all, is available for pre-order now, only on GOG.com with a 10% discount for the first two weeks!

A crazy mutant tentacle is on the loose, plotting to take over the world. How you ask? That's not important right now! We need to be thinking about the how, just how are we going to fix this? Super simply, by going back to yesterday!

Alongside Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max, and Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle sits without question among the legendary golden-era adventures. Now, straight from the early '90s, Day of the Tentacle arrives in our dystopian future of 2016 — back for a blast from the past for those who missed it, and a shot of nostalgia for those who just miss it.

Day of the Tentacle Remastered is all the adventure you may remember with an optional layer of sweet improvements on top. You can mix and match between the unmistakably 1990s pixely art and a fresh high-res coat of paint, remastered audio, and an all new interface. There are extra goodies in the Remastered release as well, including in-game developer commentary and a fully playable version of the original Maniac Mansion. Your pre-order also comes with three exclusive Day of the Tentacle wallpapers, available right away to fuel your anticipation.

But don't take our word for it. Take it from the guy behind it all:

Welcome back to the Day of the Tentacle, available for pre-order now, exclusively on GOG.com! The pre-order discount will last for two weeks, until March 22, 8:59 PM GMT.

omega64: Weird, I hope the devs of those mods got some of the cash. :l

Maxvorstadt: And what are you dreaming of at night?
I said "I hope".
Didn't say it was probable. :P

foxworks: I can thankfully resist the urge to buy this now as the DOS talkie version is still playable today, even on my mobile device. Happy to see this get released though. Long overdue.
same here.... i hesitated and the 1.40 euro return (reg. pricing ) tempt me to get it cause i like DOTT.
But... 'ripping' of some poor guys work or at least copy it or 'copy' it is a bit shameless.

Like i said before i do hope this person who started it as a fan remake did get some of the 1000s of dollars, that would only be fair, cause if it wasnt for the fan community many commercial devs would not be remastering games, usually they do this because they also google and read the many request.
Then its a matter of time waiting for a poor fan to start the basics and lateron shameless copy that.

I think the fan guy should at least get 1000 dollars or so (tax free ofcourse)

Maxvorstadt: So you mean it`s a case of "We let the fans do the work and cash the money for doing nothing!"?
avatar
Fandi: I wouldn't say that, because the texture and model upgrades wasn't fully created, and they did it themselves. But calling it a remaster is like calling the Final Fantasy VII - VIII (that is currently on Steam) a remaster.
The main work was to update it to run on current operating systems.
But it was a remaster right?
Remaster /= remake

buschap: Sorry if I missed this in previous posts, but as someone who didn't get to play most of these games when they were originally released, how important is playing Maniac Mansion before playing this one?

I know MM is playable within DotT, but unless they make it so you can play it from the menu...
To summarize it: this game is a stand-alone masterpiece.
(No, I'm not exaggerating.)

Well, I'm not that good, with semantics. :)

If the goal was to make the game playable on the current OSs, then yes, it is a solid product. (Speaking of Grim Fandango.)

But since they also reworked many aspects of the game, it feels like they stopped halfway, and it called it a day.
I understand, that they didn't have the original background models to work with, and that's why it wasn't touched, but seeing the new charcter models alongside with it, just ... I don't know why, but that just bugs me. (No pun intended.) It just feels sloppy.

Neat! I know I'll probably have to turn in my "Good Old Gamer" membership card but I actually don't mind remasters like this - nice to see it here! *ducks tomatoes and lettuce*

This... is actually really cool. These old adventure classics seems like a perfect match for some handheld action on the train / bus / just about where ever - the controls are decent?

As far as I know, they contacted the creator of the point&click mod, and it was officially requested and included.
I don't know about the compensation, but based on this info, I think they had a contract.

You are forgiven.
Oh look, a Tim Schafter....uh Schafer game that isn't a disaster (Yet)
Wishlisted for now, hopefully it'll work on launch (Or at least eventually)
Can some one please confirm Mac version will be available? According to Double Fine's site, Windows AND OSX. For those wanting to watch some game play and early commentary, there's a YT link on their site.

No confirmation yet, store page only lists Windows right now.

DOTT controls play very well on mobile. Also Indiana Jones and the Fate Atlantis. Any of the adventure titles where you can tap on the action words listed on the lower half of the screen. One I had problems with was Full Throttle. The updated interface made it difficult to perform certain actions.
The boxed version of DOTT is still at my parent's house (and I moved out nearly 15 years ago!) and my father recently let me know that he doesn't plan on parting with it.
He still runs it on a HD with an old windows! :-D

So I might just get the remaster, set it to the old graphics and enjoy!

Looks fine, looks funny (only recently i started enjoying point & click adventures) but I doubt I'll buy it soon because I find the more serious ones (crime, horror, sci-fi etc.) a lot more interesting. I purchased Monkey Island Remastered Collection on retail (before it was released on GOG) but I haven't finished it yet. The same with Grim Fandango. So, I'll consider buying it only after I sit down and play MI & GR first. And I guess it'll take me some time... :P
Any chance of the data from the original game being included as an extra? Being able to run it in ScummVM would be nice.

Doubtful, don't think it was included with Grim Fandango.
