GOGer: WARNING!!!!! RIP-OFF ALERT!!!! (AND PLATFORM DISCRIMINATION)

the steam version is "better/superior", for the ultimate pre-order also includes the original game whilst the gog version does not (as of this posting) that is huge. a bonus "original" game not be be included in the same version as on steam? that is not acceptable and perhaps unlawful in some regions? if not, it should be. already got it on steam, ultimate, yes, and saw it here just seconds ago. was going to buy here too (yes, insane) but made sure to check for original game. holly crap gog version does not have it.

from steam store:
==============================================
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars - Ultimate Edition includes:

Asterigos: Curse of the Stars original game
Asterigos: Call of the Paragons DLC*
Asterigos: Curse of the Stars Complete Soundtrack
Asterigos: Digital Art Book

edit; also, WTFF? my account is restricted and i'm not "allowed" to post links? WTFF!?!?
The "Asterigos: Curse of the Stars original game" that you claim is missing is the base game itself lol. Look at the whole title.

mqstout: Oh look, another game -- RPG at that -- without any UI screenshots!

One UI screenshot can tell me way more about a game than anything else. And especially for an RPG, where UI is usually a very important part of how you interact with the game.

Why TF don't people know how to market their products yet? Why doesn't GOG help them?
UI tends to change quite significantly and quite often throughout development. Sometimes it's one of the last things to be developer properly. I can understand them not wanting to show it off.

Personally, I'd rather know if it has manual saves or if it's gonna use one of those dumb single-profile, single-slot autosaves.

BreOl72: This looks nice.

However - am I imagining things, or has this been announced in the past?
Because I could've sworn that I saw the redhead Hilda and the trailer already...
It was announced in the past as "Coming to GOG", now it's being announced as "Available for Pre-Order".

NuffCatnip: '...inspired by soulslike...'

Sigh, why not Devil May Cry, Bayonetta, Metal Gear Rising Revengeance, Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha or pretty much anything else.
There goes my interest in the game.
It's just a popular buzzword. GO back 10 years and you'll see that everyone was saying "Inspired by God of War".

wolfsite: That may be just poor wording, I looked around and found nothing about any other version of the game prior to this one.

In this case Original Game may just mean base game, as in the version you get if you purchase the Standard Edition.
yes, i now see the situation and edited my post accordingly. tinybuild's fault. i actually think they did it deliberately. wild dogs!
You'd think there would be at least 1 person at gog that understands random screenshots of cinematics do nothing.
Bunch of lazy people that know nothing about gaming.

VanishedOne: It was announced for GOG in June; this post is for preorders going live, and I think for non-base editions being added.
Thanks for the confirmation.
Nice to know that I haven't lost my marbles completely, yet. XD

It's the same screenshots that are used on Steam, too.
Therefore: the devs are to blame - not GOG.
But hey, don't let such pesky facts get in your way to complain about GOG, huh?

It's more than that, souls-likes stand for (mostly) slow, methodical and often times shallow/simplistic combat. By that I don't mean they are easy, well, most of them are once you get a hold of the mechanics, but that is true for almost every other genre. To me they simply lack the variety and speed I want in a game focused on melee combat.
In my eyes the Dark Souls style of combat is exceptionally dull and so far I've been bored by every souls-like I played to this point. That doesn't mean I stomped those games, I died quite a lot like most other players.
Maybe I've just played the wrong souls-likes, but that has been my experience so far.

Btw, the above is a snippet of my opinion regarding souls-likes, if someone doesn't share it, that is fine, I have no interest in having a discussion about souls-likes, just wanted to state my opinion and rant a little. :P

I just realized I wrote the word 'souls-like' a few too many times and need to wash my hands.

Pre-purchase to get rewards

The Pre-order Bonus Pack includes an exclusive outfit and a set of trinkets.
I would like to know if these items will be available after launch or not. I don't mind paying for them however if they're only limited to the pre-order period then I will never buy this game.

I don't support such practices.

I share the dislike for "Souls-likes" (if I understood your post correctly?), however, for what it may be worth, this bit..:

"The gameplay elements inspired by soulslike games alongside a lighter, dynamic combat system"

...gives me a little hope. Just a little.

Will nonetheless wait for after release reviews, as always. And then decide.
I am sort of interested in this game, however, the relatively low price makes me think it will be way too short and therefore not worth it. Usually long games don't have a relatively low price on launch.

Also, Achievements are not currently listed on the GOG store page even though they are listed on the S**** store page, so I'd definitely never buy it unless they give GOG customers equal treatment.

On another note: I'm not sure why this game has a "story rich" tag on the GOG store page, because from what I've seen of the game it doesn't seem like it will be "story rich" at all. And the Dark Souls games which it is aping are certainly not "story rich" either.

Both the store pages' descriptions for the Deluxe and Ultimate Edition contain a naughty word that I think is explicitly verboten to use in the context of advertising a competing platform.
Might want to get rid of that, and again, to avoid that in the future, vet and proof-read the descriptions BEFORE they go live.

Real shame about the specs. I'd get this in a heart beat but i think i'm a little short on hardware. I don't have the time right now to take an in depth look at everything hardware to build a new PC, last time i built a PC was in '14 specifically to play The Witcher 3 and i "wasted" 3 or 4 weeks on "research", so this one will simply have to wait. Funny thing, i never did get very far in The Witcher 3...

It's great to see it coming here just the same.

I tried my best to stay neutral, but I loathe that genre. :)

From the demo gameplay I watched today I don't have high hopes or rather I don't think I'll enjoy the game, the game itself looks more than decent, but healing flasks, a stamina bar and dodge rolls with invincibility frames (the Dark Souls classics) are a huge turn off in my book.

They are not necessarily screenshots of cinematics. In fact, with the exception of maybe 2 screenshots, the remaining ones are almost certainly taken from gameplay. They are just made with a tool, such as Nvidia Ansel, essentially a photo mode, which can be taken at any point, by freezing the game and allowing free camera movement around the scene.

I could make fancy action shots in any game that supports Ansel. That wouldn't mean they are from some cutscene.

Does it matter the hero is a woman (role playing: story twists, specific abilities, ...) or not?
