The chronicle of the Third Era is about to be revealed!

Age of Wonders 3, the long-anticipated continuation to the fan-favorite, award-winning strategy series, set in a robust and beautiful world that becomes the scene for diverse, complex, and engaging gameplay, is available for pre-orders on GOG.com. Depending on your location you'll be charged $39.99 or the USD equivalent of £29.99, or €39.99. An extended Age of Wonders 3 - Deluxe Edition, featuring a full soundtrack and the Dragon's Throne standalone scenario, is available for $44.99, £34.99, or €44.99. As a special pre-order bonus, both versions include the Elven Resurgence, a standalone scenario DLC.

Imagine! Empires rising and falling before your very eyes, led to victory or defeat by heroes of legend so powerful that they appear to be titans in the eyes of mortals. Sorcerers harness the arcane powers to bend the rules of the world around them. Theocrats twist the wills of their followers with the holy aura bestowed upon them by their deities for their zealous service. Rogues rule the shadows, taking any chance to strike and win before their foes even realize there is a war to fight. Warlords earn the loyalty of their legions by the glory gained in the many battles they emerged from, victorious. Archdruids become one with nature, and the land itself rushes to their aid. Dreadnoughts rely on the art of engineering to construct their unstoppable artificial armies. All those powers, all of their miraculous exploits, all of their desires, all thrown into one realm of war. This shall truly be an age of wonders!

With Age of Wonders 3, Triumph Studios aims to set new standards not only for the acclaimed Age of Wonders series, but also for the turn-based strategy genre itself. Taking advantage of all the modern gaming bells and whistles, the title will deliver an impressive level of complexity in gameplay and an immersive, lush, and diverse gameworld that can become your own for hundreds of hours. With the ability to choose one of the six leader classes, you'll be able to custom-tailor your empire--and by extension your experience with the game--to your personal gameplay style, so you can enjoy the extensive campaign the game offers in any way you like. You'll be leading into battle armies recruited from within six humanoid races as well as some fantastic creatures and mythical monsters. The turn-based tactical combat itself will prove to be a challenge for the most seasoned of strategy gamers but also scalable enough for beginners to enjoy. With over 50 location types to explore and exploit, hundreds of abilities to master for tactical and strategic advantage over your foes, visually stunning presentation, and a smart random scenario generator providing virtually limitless replayability, this upcoming title may prove the only turn-based strategy game you'll need for many years to come!

Pre-order Age of Wonders 3, for only $39.99 or the USD equivalent of £29.99, or €39.99 on GOG.com (or opt in for the splendid Age of Wonders 3 - Deluxe Edition), and secure your entry to the fantastic realm of power and dominion, which opens to all the brave souls approximately on March 31. Note that Age of Wonders 3 is the first title with regional pricing on GOG.com in quite some time and this means that we are charging the USD equivalents of the official regional price.

Note, that just as we have done before in such occasions, we'll be throwing in a little something extra to the deal, to accommodate those of you, who end up paying more than the others due to the currency conversion rates applied. We've picked some games that fit well with the genre represented by Age of Wonders III, and if you're one of those people, you'll get to pick one of them. You'll be sent a gift-code allowing you to redeem one of the following excellent titles: Master of Magic, Lords of Magic: Special Edition, Eador: Genesis, King’s Bounty: The Legend, Disciples II: Gold, and Etherlords II.

IAmSinistar: Wow. So I guess I won't even bother waiting for this one to go on sale, if that's their attitude.

They clearly think their game is a bigger deal than it is.

vampiro13: Isn't region locking DRM? I think it is. If it is, will we see TeT eat his hat? Actually, regional pricing is already sort of DIGITAL RIGHTS MANAGEMENT.
Region locking is DRM if it's enforced by the game software.

Niggles: and if theres nothing in the game software to enforce it...
... region restrictions will be on the honor system, because there is no DRM to handle it.

IAmSinistar: But since it's a somewhat different case, TeT shouldn't have to eat a hat for it. Perhaps a rhinestone tiara?
Wouldn't that be a bigger punishment though? After all, he could chip a tooth or two doing that. Not to mention the much more uncomfortable bowel movements afterwards.

lol whatever they do, it should involve shaving their heads and dying their flesh. Such that the humiliation lasts for many days. But i don't think it will come to that ;)

It's a Dutch website, one of the biggest Dutch websites when it comes to computer electronics and games.

Andanzas: So, according to Google Translate, the game will not be sold at retail, only as a digital product? In that case, it's really hard to understand this situation.

Thanks for the link!
One of the devs have posted elsewhere that they are going to release physical copies in some parts of the world:

i actually hope GOG goes this way. At least it would be something for those who are paying to much for a given game

HGiles: GOG isn't set up to distribute new games that need frequent patching. I'm sure they're going to address it at some point. For now the operating model GOG uses works very well for complete games that do not need updates, but not well for new games. This will change at some point, and I'm wary of whatever changes they might make to support newer games. Probably it will go smoothly, but GOG has a history of misjudging what customers want.
Lucky for me then that I'm always way behind on my games even when I purchase on first release. By the time I get to play everyone has bugs, all the patches are integrated and I notice no pain :)

On another note seems the Deluxe edition is only MP3, no little blue men have advised otherwise. So if I get anything it will be the standard edition, $15 for MP3 considering I only buy soundtracks if they are lossless is definitely not for me.
Doesn't look like the composer "Michiel van den Bos" has it up independently anywhere, no bandcamp page.

It was on Steam ages ago, and they got discounts if the customer already owned the original version of realmyst...

Kardwill: No undead, no archon, only one elven race... There are quite a few iconic AOW races missing in this game.
My favorite races to play in SM were elves, halflings and nomads (and I guess I just threw in frostlings because when I played them I liked turning everyone's lands to snow). I figured the high elves would be a suitable replacement for elves, but the others don't have a replacement.

I got curious and made a table of what races are in which AoW games:

______________1___2__SM___3
_____________--__--__--__--
Archons___________2__SM
Azracs________1
Dark_Elves____1___2__SM
Draconians________2__SM___3
Dwarves_______1___2__SM___3
Elves_________1___2__SM
Frostlings____1___2__SM
Goblins_______1___2__SM___3
Halflings_____1___2__SM
High_Elves________________3
High_Men______1
Humans________1___2__SM___3
Lizard_Men____1
Nomads_______________SM
Orcs__________1___2__SM___3
Shadow_Demons________SM
Syrons_______________SM
Tigrans___________2__SM
Undead________1___2__SM
_____________--__--__--__--
total_count__12__12__15___6

SM: http://aow2.heavengames.com/aowsm/gameinfo/units/
3: http://ageofwonders.com/faq/

There are some races that were in 1 that were not in 2/SM: Azracs, High Men and Lizard Men.

SM was a strict super-set of what was in 2. That makes me think Triumph might make a sequel that is to 3 what SM was to 2, and in that sequel they will have a super-set of what was in 3. But even then I wouldn't expect every race from previous AoW games to be included, as that would be 19 races (which would be quite the jump from 6 -- 12 would be more likely).

I guess since there's no Syrons or Shadow Demons there will be no shadow world anymore? Must be as I didn't see any in the article on the new map generator. (I guess one upside to that is that the AI was too dumb to use shadow walking or stick to shadow-native troops in the shadow world, so most its troops had shadow sickness all the time, making the AI a push-over in the shadow world. There's little sadder than seeing that the AI had taken over a bunch of what were presumably Syron cities in the shadow world -- and migrated them all to halfling or archon cities so they would have no decent defense when your forces arrive.)

Kardwill: Since I'm not into multiplayer and I'm mostly a campaign player (single scenario and random maps are something that never interested me in AOW), I'm worried that the game's design might be quite different from the long, interesting, meaty campaigns of the previous titles.
AoW is one of the few games where I have played through the campaigns (multiple times for at least some of them), but I still played more random maps than campaign maps and pre-made scenarios. In general (not just for AoW) I like to take on the AI in the more neutral territory of random maps than in the frequently too-heavily-scripted non-random maps. (I avoid adventure games for the same reason -- they are 100% scripted.)
As for Retail AoWIII ; we can confirm the following territories with the following partners. We’re sorry if you were expecting a physical copy in your country and it is not listed. (PC Retail is though to get into a lot of territories, and we had time to do only so many deals)

Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein (Eurovideo)
Russia and CIS (Buka)
Poland and Hungary (Techland)
France, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland (Namco) – Hot off the press!

Looks got confirmed physical Special/Limited editions by Buka, Techland and Eurovideo.
All these special editions will be different, as they are compiled by our co-publishing partners. We have to leave it to or partners to confirm the contents. I have spied a very awesome figurine in one of them!
Bit confused by his mention of possible region-locking for the retail versions earlier. Does that parhaps mean they will come with steam keys as well and those are region-locked?

JudasIscariot: Well, we don't have the game yet so we don't know how it works yet. Rest assured that we do everything in our power to get all the updates for game in a timely manner.
avatar
Darvond: Rest assured, the low bar is Nintendo's update scheme, where you're lucky to have a game patched. I don't mind waiting a day or two for a patch to come out.
Oh, you haven't bought any new games from gog, I presume? :)

As Judas said, they do everything in their power to get the updates. The devs just don't send the patches that quick, because Steam's patching system is easier to work with and more important (more gamers there). So it's a lottery. You may wait a day, you may wait a month, or as was the case with Psychonauts - a year+.

Well, I wouldn't say there are really 19 races. Some AOW2 races were mostly revamped AOW1 races that were initially a little on the bland side :
Lizardmen --> Dragonians
High Men --> Archon
Azracs --> Tigrans

For me, that's the reason AOW1 and AOW2 have the same number : They are pretty much the same 12 races :)
