The chronicle of the Third Era is about to be revealed!

Age of Wonders 3, the long-anticipated continuation to the fan-favorite, award-winning strategy series, set in a robust and beautiful world that becomes the scene for diverse, complex, and engaging gameplay, is available for pre-orders on GOG.com. Depending on your location you'll be charged $39.99 or the USD equivalent of £29.99, or €39.99. An extended Age of Wonders 3 - Deluxe Edition, featuring a full soundtrack and the Dragon's Throne standalone scenario, is available for $44.99, £34.99, or €44.99. As a special pre-order bonus, both versions include the Elven Resurgence, a standalone scenario DLC.

Imagine! Empires rising and falling before your very eyes, led to victory or defeat by heroes of legend so powerful that they appear to be titans in the eyes of mortals. Sorcerers harness the arcane powers to bend the rules of the world around them. Theocrats twist the wills of their followers with the holy aura bestowed upon them by their deities for their zealous service. Rogues rule the shadows, taking any chance to strike and win before their foes even realize there is a war to fight. Warlords earn the loyalty of their legions by the glory gained in the many battles they emerged from, victorious. Archdruids become one with nature, and the land itself rushes to their aid. Dreadnoughts rely on the art of engineering to construct their unstoppable artificial armies. All those powers, all of their miraculous exploits, all of their desires, all thrown into one realm of war. This shall truly be an age of wonders!

With Age of Wonders 3, Triumph Studios aims to set new standards not only for the acclaimed Age of Wonders series, but also for the turn-based strategy genre itself. Taking advantage of all the modern gaming bells and whistles, the title will deliver an impressive level of complexity in gameplay and an immersive, lush, and diverse gameworld that can become your own for hundreds of hours. With the ability to choose one of the six leader classes, you'll be able to custom-tailor your empire--and by extension your experience with the game--to your personal gameplay style, so you can enjoy the extensive campaign the game offers in any way you like. You'll be leading into battle armies recruited from within six humanoid races as well as some fantastic creatures and mythical monsters. The turn-based tactical combat itself will prove to be a challenge for the most seasoned of strategy gamers but also scalable enough for beginners to enjoy. With over 50 location types to explore and exploit, hundreds of abilities to master for tactical and strategic advantage over your foes, visually stunning presentation, and a smart random scenario generator providing virtually limitless replayability, this upcoming title may prove the only turn-based strategy game you'll need for many years to come!

Pre-order Age of Wonders 3, for only $39.99 or the USD equivalent of £29.99, or €39.99 on GOG.com (or opt in for the splendid Age of Wonders 3 - Deluxe Edition), and secure your entry to the fantastic realm of power and dominion, which opens to all the brave souls approximately on March 31. Note that Age of Wonders 3 is the first title with regional pricing on GOG.com in quite some time and this means that we are charging the USD equivalents of the official regional price.

Note, that just as we have done before in such occasions, we'll be throwing in a little something extra to the deal, to accommodate those of you, who end up paying more than the others due to the currency conversion rates applied. We've picked some games that fit well with the genre represented by Age of Wonders III, and if you're one of those people, you'll get to pick one of them. You'll be sent a gift-code allowing you to redeem one of the following excellent titles: Master of Magic, Lords of Magic: Special Edition, Eador: Genesis, King’s Bounty: The Legend, Disciples II: Gold, and Etherlords II.

JudasIscariot: Yep, I can totally understand where you're coming from but read TET's earlier responses regarding this whole regional price policy as he very neatly outlined why we had to do this.

Darvond: 'Had to do' is a very strong phrase.
It's a PR phrase.
Well at least Judas either had the balls or at a minimum strapped on a pair to start answering a few of the comments.

GabiMoro: I've only read the first 100 posts but aren't we a little too harsh?

This game is available on GOG regional priced but could not be at all. Isn't this still better than nothing?

Those who are screwd by the price have the option not to buy it. But at least we have a DRM-free copy of Age of Wonders 3.

Can't we be happy for those from North and South America who can buy it at normal price? Not to mention other countries (Russia and perhaps others) who can buy this at a lower price?

It's the only game with regional price so far. Even if you buy this at a different store it will still be regional priced, no?
Your asking for a rational, level headed reaction from the internet.C'mon man!

JudasIscariot: Sorry about the typo ...

I don't know about the gift codes myself as this is all new to me, sorry.
Eh, don't sweat the typo, I understood it as such. It was merely an excuse to quote you in order to get your attention re: my question.

I'm disappointed that GOG doesn't have an official answer for that, seems like something that would have been sussed out early on in the negotiations. Not to mention when implementing the software changes to support the regional pricing.

No you chose to be greedy. There is nothing reasonable or fair in this sort of pricing towards anyone. You could have been force of good fighting against these type of practices, but for your own greed you decided to join in...

BTW I find your nick name hilarious in this context...

From now on, until Gog goes back on regional prices (maybe except those 3 already planned), I´ll only buy old/rare games.

I have about 200 games from here and now I´m a little afraid to spend more money without thinking about Gog ignoring another core principle in the future.

All I can really do now is backup up my purchased games...

It seems the regions are even more fine grained than just the currency areas. I thought because of the single market in the EU it would not be possible to divide some zones. I think this is/should be against the law. How is a single market supposed to work if it depends where you come from?

Is it even worse than I imagined?

I should be allowed to buy my game from Poland... So how am I to do this as is my right as citizen of EU?
Lucky me that I happened to be traveling in Russia today and now I am heading back home. Fair price, great game.

Personally, I think this whole regional pricing situation is a bit dicey and bad thought of. But I do understand that this is not GOG fault but the developers fault. So I support GOG's efforts.

I'm sorry but no .

FlamingFirewire: If you read the game card it mentions pre-order incentives as well the price upon release - I think it's about $15 cheaper to pre-order it at this point over waiting for its release date.
Yeah, sorry, I somehow missed the info about the bonus when I first read the description. So the game will be even more expensive after release? Something tells me they won't move many copies of this, not until some heavy discount promo somewhere down the line.

( Except of course for those people who will pre-order it right away, because they already knew of and waited for the game to be released. )

Maybe that's just me, but I'm generally reluctant to pay as much for a digital copy as I would for an old fashioned physical release. Digital distribution is drastically more cost-effective for the publisher, yet for the most they don't seem to pass that advantage on to the customer. We receive an inferior product ( aside from the convenience I'll admit ) yet the price is often almost identical. Maybe this doesn't bother people in the US/ Northern America as much, since physical distribution seems to be almost non-existent for you guys at this point. ( It's still fairly common here in Europe, probably more so than DD. )
high rated
I've been waiting for hard facts beyond "the front page has change" before throwing my hat in with the hopping mad crowd. I don't like making harsh judgements on the fly. I'm generally a forgiving sort. But I have to say I'm not impressed. Her are some reasons why.

1: The price gap.
This has been covered in detail so I'll make this brief. I've read that the UK version is 20$ more expensive than the US version. If this is true then I have to point out that I could buy 2-3 games for that.

2: The Pre-order free game.
As stated I could do better with this cash. But the fact that a buyer is limited to a small handful to choose from. Being able to choose any game from the catalogue would be a bigger incentive. Also the free games out offer are other Turn-biased fantasy games. Games that most Age of Wonders fans probably already own.

3: The Game itself
I'm not interested in Age of Wonders myself but that isn't the problem. The problem is that I don't think there was any doubt about Age 3 coming here. This is the perfect site for such a game. And I can't believe that Triumph Studios weren't aware of that. I can't believe they needed extra coaxing.

4: Where is the letter we were promised?
After the biggest upset since the DLC debate trying to fix relations with you're costumers. This might not have been your choice but if it was, bad move, very bad move.

5 Pre-order DLC
Okay this one isn't your fault. I'm slightly surprised this is such a stinging point a Divinity: Dragon commander did the same thing and no-one seemed to care. But regardless it's a black mark against Triumph Studios and a sore point you should have anticipated

6: The fact that this is one of the games you "sold out" for.
Like I said I think most of us expected Age of Wonders 3 to come here with no problem. But what sad about this is that this game should be cause for rejoicing not riots.
And if I didn't come here because Triumph wouldn't say yes without Regional pricing we'd be sad but we'd understand.

I understand You've probably signed a lot of legal forms that mean that even if you want to just tell Triumph to go shove it and return to you old ways you can't, for the foreseeable future.
But I hope you don't need me to tell you that it is in you interests to regain the customers trust and try to back out of the this new policy ASAP.

I would have bought this game anyway as Turn Biased Strategy isn't my thing. But I do encourage my fellow customers to boycott this title for what it stands for. Ido not encourage boycotting all the games on this site. If it's region free and you want it, buy it. Show that you want fair priced games.

And to GOG I say, remember what made you great. My goodwill may last longer than others. But it won't last forever.

Thank you for reading

trusteft: I don't buy that.

From the first days of digital/download shops for games (drengin.net, Steam in particular), they (publishers and eshops) were all about how this will bring prices down since they won't have to print manuals, boxes, distribution etc.
Nothing like that has happened.
Even for games which don't have a physical retail version, the prices remain up for new games.
avatar
VanishedOne: Sure--because there are people willing to buy at high prices, so those are the initial offer prices. And I'm sure publishers do enjoy the price discrimination which regionalism enables; I don't think it's all down to retailers strong-arming them (more like pushing on an open door). But I do also find it credible that physical retailers got spooked at all those promises of digital efficiencies and prices driven down, and were willing to work hard to make sure that scenario wouldn't happen. In the famous words of Adam Smith, 'People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public'.
As a (poor) capitalist, I applaud even mentioning Adam Smith and give you a + for your post :p
I'll admit it: I'm happy that AoW III is here on GOG.
And I'm not devastated by it having the same regional price here than on Steam. I'd rather get it here (for the same price) than only being able to get it on Steam.

JudasIscariot: We do know our customers very well and we can see that there is a brown tornado, so to speak, rolling through here right now but it's better than avoiding the thread and leaving folks thinking we don't care.

(Don't worry I am not taking anything personally, in case you were wondering :P )
1. Thanks for answering, or just even posting anything. At least it's not like talking to a rock, as it is on other stores.

2. That's actually not AAA, it's rather AoW! (huehuehue)

No, this is actually the game I was waiting for.
I heard about it, like... two minutes ago and I just was like "OMG when will this come out?! I'm so exited!". Like, I mean, really the whole time, since I heard about it. What's now about two AND A HALF minute ago!
I think, AoW will be the game to bring DRM-Free games to all over the world.
Just because everybody is talking about it, everywhere. Forums, chats, people at the university, gaming magazines - everybody is just hyping about this great AOW game. Just take a look at the website from gamestar (a big german gaming magazine)! The whole main page is full of AoW!

Okay, okay, you can't see it there. But, to be honest: You can feel it. Deep in your heart.

It is not some boring Thief-shit, no overhyped Skyrim, no small title like GTA or Watch Dogs. Not even ridiculous indie-crap like Starbound. And also not weird punk-trash like Saints Row or Bioshock.

This is Age of Wonders.

This is the game, the world is looking at.

This is the game to bring DRM-freedom all over the world!

This is just the right game to abandon your core values. Worth it.
