Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders, an investigation/mystery adventure, is now available for pre-order for Windows and Mac with a 20% discount, DRM-free on GOG.com.

For some people murder comes as naturally as reciting the alphabet. For others the same is true for solving them. Hercule Poirot, the eccentric, mustachioed detective with the formidable grey cells, is one of those people. "A" is for his adorable belgian accent. "B" is for the impressive brain power possessed by such a little man. And "C" is for all the clues you will need to examine during your desperate investigation that will put a stop to the murdering spree of the appropriately named "A.B.C. killer".

For not only is this man terrorizing the British countryside by leaving a trail of alphabetically sequential victims, he even has the audacity to personally challenge the great Hercule Poirot by questioning his intellectual prowess. Such insolence cannot stand! Step into the well-polished shoes of the legendary detective, collect information, question the suspects and establish the timeline of the crimes. Your deductions will decide this sinister battle of wits and secure Poirot's reputation as the ultimate detective of our times. And the most modest.

Pre-order Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders, Hercule Poirot's latest adventure, before the curiously-named murderer strikes again! The 20% pre-order discount will last until the game's expected launch on February 4, 2016.

snowkatt: while i think suchet is the definitive poirot i didnt like him in murder on the orient express mostly because he came over as bitter and angry prone to fits a man on the edge of the breaking point while in the book he was his normal self
That was a bit of an odd one. I think the makers wanted to heighten the moral conflict within Poirot in this story. His religious side was much more on display in this one, and I think that was done in order to emphasise his decision at the end. But it did seem dissonant with his other portrayals, more stark than usual.

One of my least favourite of the TV episodes.

mechmouse: I've just watched the trailer.

Poriot sounds rather American. Not even slightly Belgium/French
some guides/walkthorughs are on youtube, i watched a few, the game is not classic click point as i know it, its different, the puzzles are rotateble and zoom in to explore it better

i will wait a while, it doesnt look like the click adventures i been playing since my 16th :D
i prefer the simpler brokensword (not the 3d) and techno babylon adventures, and the runaway adventures, edna and harvey.
This agatha christie style looks to differnt for me.

Plus 23.99 for a click and point? (list price almost 30 euros?)
nah, i will wait for more clasic ones like i already have, i like those ones better.

mechmouse: One of my least favourite of the TV episodes.
It did have a great cast though (Toby Jones is always good, and it was great to see Barbara Hershey on screen again). But I suspect the creators were trying in part to distance themselves from all the other adaptations of Orient Express, and ended up in a strange place for Suchet's Poirot.
Well I'm going to join the, not going to pre-order it but will wishlist it club.

Do I get a club badge? Hmm probably not, that is a pre-order bonus ;P

I'm encouraged to see this here. Might bode well for more releases from Micröids / Anuman

rgnrk: And I never really liked Poirot or Miss Marple as characters. I was always more into Agatha Christie's novels with no recurring protagonist.
avatar
Eitot: Me neither. However, in the film portrayals I liked Peter Ustinov and Margaret Rutherford a lot, probably because they weren't exact portrayals of the book characters. As for Sherlock Holmes, I always pictured him like Basil Rathbone and I liked him in that role, but unfortunately not in all films.

That being said, I feel like Holmes, Marple and Poirot are overused and cheapened. A bit more originality, please!
Agree.

For me there will always be only one Inspector Clousea: Peter Sellers.
No one can ever stand in his shadow, some tried but for me they all failed :D
Sellers was the best Clouseau no one will ever come close to him.
Same goes for Robin Williams: Mork & Mindy series and al his other funny movies
Robin Williams was one of the absolute best performers on stage and on the white screen, also a very good voice actor.

Basil Rathbone : yes that guy could always die so dramatically in the old classic B/W movies
he was a nasty fellow on stage, i can't remember seeing him performing as a nice guy, alsways seemed to be the traitor / bad guy.
Other favorite classic actors Errol Flynn, Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis, Roger Moore and many others.
One of the best funny and weird comical actors was Danny Kaye.

Pardinuz: This looks promising. Can't wait to see some actual gameplay.
check youtube there are some videos available
i decided to wait a (long) while cause from the videos it did not look like its the old adventure style i am used to, and at 24 euros (30 euros listprice) its quiute a amount of cash.

Normally when i insta buy a game its because i either had a previous versions, or a previous story like the broken sword games, the jagged alliance games, with most of the latest games i have no clue what i will be like cause demos are very difficult to find, most of the times they wont release a demo.

Tannath: Yeah, I'm going to wait on this one. Wishlisted.

Big fan of the TV series, so I must ask: why does Poirot sound english? o.O
Agreed on that one :D
sometimes i see WW2 movies with germans speaking so British English its remarkable, and very dumb at the same time:

" Zey should be talking englizh vit a german accent all ze time...."

This way when you are turned away from the screen for a few minutes you will still be able to hear which side is talking, but if all players talk British English, then whats the use of making a ww2 movie?

Sometimes a lot of movies are crapped because they did not take the time to get some good actors who could speak a language with an accent, plus they should be using actors who could easily look like as a german one like
Robert Vaughn and David McCallum, give them a german suit and hat and they look like real germans.

But good actors cost more money, so good voice actors will also be quit expensive.
Anyway, command and conquer and red alert were clearly done very well, i liked the classic ones with the movies, lateron they removed those and the actors and used 3d renders in the follower up on red alert 2 , that was a big mistake.

well I'm hyped

gonna definitely play this one with French VO, even though I don't speak a word of it
nice to see it here. Wishlisted for now
The art design in this game is awesome!

WireHead: For Poirot though... there's only Suchet! He IS Poirot!

snowkatt: agreed though i think that brett is holmes no other actor can even come close to him
Ah, yes, I should have mentioned that Brett's Sherlock is for me the "classic" Sherlock. RDJ version is a nice reinterpretation, as a kind of "other world" Sherlock.

Have you seen "The Abominable Bride" episode of the new Sherlock show? Cumberbatch looked awesome as a "classic" Sherlock!

I have only watched Poirot untill the six seties, so now I'm curious about the oriental express.

Curiously, I only knew about the Geraldine McEwan's Marple, never realized there was an older series.

i have recorded the abominable bride but i haven't watched it yet
i should even though the cliffhanger from series 3 annoys me best episode of series 3 was episode 2 i believe

the murder on the orient express is one of the last episodes of one of the last series ( 12)
and then there is this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_on_the_Orient_Express_%282001_film%29

also wikipedia is 15 years old and a lot of people pull their noses up for wikipedia and say its unreliable but i cant imagine why
its not as if traditional encyclopedia's are set in stone and were never factually wrong
its a website with unimaginable amounts of information and i enjoy just browsing it and reading random articles

mechmouse: I've just watched the trailer.

Well... I don't know which trailer you watched, but in the one found on the GOG game page Poirot sounds vaguely Belgian. I mean, yes, it's a native English speaker emulating a French accent but, then again, so was David Suchet, the quintessential Poirot. In fact, the actor Microïds/Anuman got for the English VO and the trailer even sounds a bit like Suchet himself.

As for the pre-ordering, it's tempting, having a game in my favourite genre being released amidst all the strategy flood GOG has been in for the past few months (with some minor exceptions that were a bit disappointing, The Moment of Silence and the other one by the same developer were mediocre at best, for me) certainly feels good, but the price is a bit steep, even with the discount, and I'm not sure about pre-ordering a game I know nothing about, even though I kind of trust the studio, considering their point & click adventure pedigree. We'll see, I'll dig more stuff about it and decide whether I should risk it, or not. For now, it's definitely wishlisted.

Just rewatched it and I'm sure this is different. The version I saw was shorter and the only bit where I though I heard Poriot talk was him reading the initial letter from ABC, which was not the same voice as on the trailer I just watched.

Found the Trailer that was originally posted

Yep, Thats about as american as you can get.
