NuffCatnip: All hail Gaben, everyone can see my E-mail and fake name now. :/
Good thing I dont have any cash in my Steam wallet. Except for those 65 cents. :`(
65 cents? Woo-hoo! Someone will throw a party!

Hawk52: Right now there's no danger of people using your information to buy anything...
But there is always room for penis enlargement pills spam. Like there is a deficit of that one. And the others.

I only don't get why Valve took so long to turn things off.

OlivawR: You could actually see their phone numbers, because from what I saw you could only see their last 4 digits (like CC info)? I saw the profiles of a few people in the past hour.
avatar
Hawk52: Yeah, I could see the whole thing. Where they lived, names, phone number, personal details that I doubt they'd want revealed.
That's really interesting, if the data is protected in some regions and not in others.
Update from Steam staff: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=190428782&postcount=1824
they put a push on for weeks leading up to xmas for people to add steam authenicator to their phones. so at least you're not getting your inventory and wallet drained.

I don't get how crisis management is so hard for these companies. The second something was noticed (and they should have some people monitoring things around the clock of course), they should have issued immediate twitter messages and shut the servers down. Alert people, calm people down, fix the problem, go eat some ham or something.

As it is, it's been going on two hours and we still haven't gotten any word from Valve on what happened. The only place with any real reliable information is the people running Steam DB and the Steam reddit.
Good to hear, but e-mails and account names reveal isn't really a pleasant thing.
I 100% saw a phone number on someone's account. It looked like a cell phone number beginning with 971 or something.

So I call bullshit on the claim that it's censored. I know what I saw.
This is unfathomable. Hundreds of reports flooding in, personal details in the hands of unknown people, the dead rising from the graves, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!

Seriously though, this is really bad.

I agree. Steam barely avoided getting own "golden dung" in terms of customer service, and now this. Maybe they don't have any monitoring team, or they were trying to stomp burning match when there was entire forest burning, so to speak.
Awful silence from officials is even worse, never understood that. I mean, some "big" corps are doing "damage assessment" and "calculating PR risks", but what Valve has to lose? "We have issues, we shutting down Steam, don't do anything". Yet we had this. Sort of "you thought paid mods were bad".
Steam Winter Fale indeed. This Christmas is special.

It is censored in first "global" window, but at second, it should be visible, as you edit it there, actually. Not sure for CC, none attached.

mikopotato: Wow. This is bad. Thanks for the heads up!

Crap I cant see my account.

bela555: "Avoid logging into Steam now, this way your account wont be cached and the odds of it being displayed to others will be minor."
Yep, dumbass me should've checked before logging in. :/
Like I posted on Reddit, I certainly hope this gets sorted out. However it also makes me glad I haven't used Steam in a while.

If you edit CC, it goes to an empty page you need to enter every details again. I dunno how it works with the phone number.

I also saw one, but a partial number like xxx******aaa. So it's mostly obscured luckily.

adaliabooks: Wow... Thank god I don't use Steam (well, my account has no details of any kind attached).
avatar
JMich: It has an email, which is fully visible.
^This, others (& probably our own) emails has been made visible.
Data protection laws etc, steam is probably about to get shit stormed.

I`ll be letting the users I saw before realised, that their account/details was compromised.
Damn sure I`d want to know too.
