That is indeed some awesome music. I have a unfiltered love for chiptunes, so this gets me instantly. Totally reminds me of the great and very modern Super Hexagon music for some reason.

The percussion reminds me somewhat of some early Samael tracks.

So far, every post was a fantastic post. Let us keep posing and hear more awesome videogame music! By the way, Happy Christmas everyone! I have sadly failed to find a good themed song for this occassion from my videogame music library. Maybe you can help me with that?
One song I really like:

ignisferroque: Baldurs Gate - Throne of Bhaal, some very epic orchestral songs, really like them a lot
Then you'll like this one. ;)
Oh my, there is so much good game music (let us forget the awful ones, shall we). My favourite soundtrack is from Independence War 2: Edge of Chaos (worth buying the game just to get the music) but then there are many games with a good piece there and there but to name just one, the main menu music in Fragile Allegiance.

Metal Gear Solid

Other games in franchise never had souch a great, atmospheric soundtrack as the one form 1998. To bad that Kojima went with bit over the top theme songs in his recent games.
Castlevania II
Rusty has a great soundtrack. Here's the first level:

Skyrim Soundtrack

Dragon Age Origins: Leliana's Song
Divinity Original Sin: Original Sin
Legend of Grimrock Theme
Portal: Still Alive, Turret Opera and Want You Gone
Mirror's Edge: Still Alive

Hey, that's a nice find! That mt32 midi sound makes me want to experiment with my old sound cards again :)
Jazz Jackrabbit 2. Excellent collection of music in a platform game.
Tyrian 2000. Another excellent collection of music in a wide variety of styles.
Stargunner (side-scrolling 2D space combat game). Just plain awesome soundtrack. Half electronic, half hard rock.
Might and Magic 3-5. Best music in the entire series
Unreal Tournament. Need I explain?
Radix (old 3D spaceflight combat game similar to Terminal Velocity).
Crusader:No Regret (soundtrack by Andrew Sega)
Granado Espada Online (Sword of the New World). An otherwise unimpressive Korean MMO with the best soundtrack of any MMO I know of.
Another set of my favorites incoming. More modern music though, since I recently only have played more modern games.

First of all, I've started playing a little gem of a game caled Metal Gear Rising Revengance
And oh my, the soundtrack grabbed my attention instantly, it rises the blood pressure in those intense and over the top fights amazingly well. The soundtrack has become one of my favories rather quickly, though, it does work better when combined with gameplay.
Also, RULES OF NATURE!

Example #1

Example #2 (bossfight theme)

Example #3 (bossfight theme)

The game however, has a certain awesome aspect to it when it comes to music. The music adapts to the situation. This pumps up the adrenaline even more during fights making it more awesome.

Battle example with a slight spolier:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVFyYqfNSVg

Now, I am not really into fast dubstep-like-remix music, but when combined with this ridiculous fast pased melodic new metal, it does the job suprisingly well. Believe me or not, but I enjoy fast and very heavy metal, since one of my favorite bands is Meshuggah. Nonetheless, this just grabbed me, and during boss fights, like (inset spoiler here) it ended up giving me goosebumps going down my spine very often, even making some of those boss fights one of the best experiences I've ever had in a action game to this date. I highly enjoyed this game and I suggest picking it up if you like over the top action games.

Let's cool down a bit with this little relaxing gem I remember, as probably many, many of you, do remember awell from back for the day. It is from no other than GTA2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCvAaFB3eNA

Another one is going to be SanctuaryRPG
Don't let the simple design fool you, this is a very well crafted and enjoyable role playing game. It has tons of loot, a fantastic battle system, great music and tons of humour. Black Edition was recently released for a resonable price, but the base game remains free.

Full soundtrack (playlist link)

What do I have next might suprise you a bit. It contains only mindblowing vocals. But I cannot explain the huge appeal this track has for me. You have to listen to it yourself. It is Dark Souls

Ash Lake Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if5sU1mUrQU

Now this game is one of my definitive favorites of all time, with lore, combat, difficulty, role play elements and it's engrossing and somewhat terrifying atmosphere, that just keep you on and on exploring the world, reaing every bit of information that was given to you. And we cannot forget the ominous music like the track posted above.
I remember when I first entered the area where this music plays, my jaw instantly dropped, leaving me standing still for the next ten minutes taking it all in and admiring the somehat sinister location. Exploring it was even more atmosphering and rewarding, once again, leaving a huge mark in my memory as one of the best things I've experinced in games. Funny thing is, this is a hidden location that might me missed by many players. That's why I love From Software. Sad that they never gived the Armored Core series a soundtrack it deseved.

Next up on my list is another modern game Batman Arkham City

Menu Theme:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXKrsJZWqK0

This theme kept me sitting in the main menu for way too long. The orchestra did just such a fine job on this one. Very epic and really gets you ready for some Batman fist-to-face action.

Next up is another one I have completen not that long ago, it is Far Cry Blood Dragon

The whole soundrack is amazing, having this 80'/90' feel to it, with a modern twist, here is a link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnDutViIj-8

The tracks that are the most momorable for me for some reason, adding to my favorites list are Warzone and Power Glowe.

This game is just full of action, references, humor and good music. I strongly advice you to get it since it is quite cheap nowadays.

Right, that should be it. Ending this post with a classic Deus Ex UNATCO theme:

Followup post from my original post.

Normally when I play a game for the first time I leave the music on until I've heard it a few times although I often turn the volume of music down to 1/2 or 1/4 of the default as I find they leave the music too loud in most games. Once I've heard it a few times I usually turn it either off completely or way way down to be very faint so I can hear the sound effects and have more immersion. Some games the music is environmental or movie-like in such a way where if a threat is encountered or near, the music may hint towards it or similar. In those type of games I leave the music on but adjust the volume to be just loud enough to do what it needs to do without saturating the audio field.

Most games I end up turning the music down significantly or off even if I think the music is pretty good, and with enough repetition I get tired of hearing it even if it is good.

Having said that, since I wrote my first post on this topic, I have had the wonderful opportunity to play Mount & Blade for a solid month, and Warband for a much smaller timeframe and both games have the same music soundtrack. The music in these games is absolutely phenomenal, properly fitting and perfectly composed and performed. It fits the game and does not detract or overpower it, and it sounds fantastic hearing it repeated infinitely. It's one of few games that I actually prefer to hear the music constantly and find it adds a lot to the experience for me so much that if I turn it off I feel I am missing something.

Therefore I nominate Mount & Blade for the "best music soundtrack ever" category along with my previously mentioned Warcraft II. :)
