So, I've recently started listening to some of my favorite videogame music, and I was thinking, what would happen, if I'd had to make my personal favorites list. So, I've decided to make one and make a post here, share my favorites, and maybe other users will also post their favorites, maybe even whole lists of their favorite tracks, so we can all discover and experience some lovley videogame music!

Let's start with my personal favorites:

System Shock 2 whole soundtrack - It's just one of the best, it fits the sci-fi horror setting perfectly and makes goosebumps go through your spine everytime the music starts playing. Even when you finished the game, you really want to listen to it.

Silent Hill opening theme - Akira Yamaoka's finest in my humble opinion. Great opening for one of my favorites games of all time.

Remaster:

Silent Hill 2 theme song - The theme song grabs it all. Even though the whole sondtrack is brilliant. Maybe I'm not as nostalgic about the second game, as I am for the first one, but sure enough, this track is very fun to listen to and nicley builds up the games overall feeling.

Chrono Cross opening theme - As few jRPGs that I've played, for me this is somewhat a massive dose of nostalgia in just 150 seconds. I love the original as well as the orchestral versions.
Original:

Orchestral:

Painkiller whole soundtrack, especially town music - Just an epic metal soundtrack that fits shooting up tons of baddies perfectly. Town music made this level one of my favorite levels in one of my favorite FPS games.
Example music:

Town music:

Gran Turismo opening (Europe) - Just makes you want to drive. Fast. A great opening to what has been my favorite racing game for a long time.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BQctAyQMOE

Front Mission 3 whole soundtrack - This soundtrack just has it's own style and that's why it's awesome. Still, it does require you to play through the game to experience it (game is great so play it). Very memorable. Quick battle music during the fights and relaxing music during the conversations. Even a little dose of funky and funny music, when the conversations are going "wrong" ;P
Example 1:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLIoVhSRguk
Example 2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9w4xMg0wuw

The Darkness lighthouse music - Heavy metal way of doing the final level of the game. That's the way to go. In combination with events that are happening during the final level and the feeling of redemption, it's just fills you with adrenaline and epicness.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-JWZAqza27E

Halo main menu music - I loved the first Halo, especially this song, original as well as the orchestral version. Such an epic way to start your game and it's legend. Reminds me of Deus Ex...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bat1QaCtDhY

Deus Ex main theme - Sitting in the games main menu just to listen to this awesome track? well I did!
Without a question a true classic when it comes to PC gaming and RPG genre.
Classic (PC ver.):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxMf4BdVq_g
Enhanced (PS2 ver.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1oxIrAX39M

Deus Ex: Human Revolution icarus theme - Maybe it doesn't consist of a jumpy beat, but it's just epic in my opinion. Very relaxing vocals combined with a somewhat anxious music does the job. I just love this track. There are many more tracks like this in the soundtrack, so I highly suggest you check it out.
Normal version (high quality):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfhDeNF0n3g
Extended version (low quality)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWc6DwaB-EM

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind whole soundtrack - Very relaxing to listen to. Makes the exploration of an epic game world so much more immersive and atmoshperic. And that's a hard thing to acquire.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xULTMMgwLuo

Cannon Fodder theme song - Legendary "War has never been so much fun" just makes you want to play it over and over and over and over again. I really miss my Amiga.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PiYuq6Ac3a0

Half Life 1 and Half Life 2 whole soundracks - Very memorable. Most of the time when you're playing those games, the music isn't playing, but when it starts, you know it's one of the best.
HL1:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaXsb5kS31s
HL2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xt2sbtvBuk8

Read Read Redemption far away - This music combined with events that are occurring in the game at this very moment makes for one of the best experiences in modern videogame history.
Game music video (mastered and might contain spoilers):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwizeeBTnk8
Official music video (unmastered and with no spoilers)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aAVIUhymUM

Max Payne 3 last level and ending music - Maybe it's not the track itself, but combination of gameplay, music and story that makes this such an great ride. Rockstar did it again.
And yes, even when playing and enjoying MP1 and MP2 I still find MP3 to be an awesome game. One of my favorites actually.

Have an awesome listen and please share your favorites! I will continue my list in the next few posts :)

Warcraft II Soundtrack
The CD soundtrack for Blizzard's Warcraft II is one of the best IMHO. The original game music was rendered via local sound card synthesis but they put out a new version of the game a year or so later with CD audio that was top notch. The music in that game is just incredible IMHO and I consider it one of the best game soundtracks ever.

Master of Magic theme song (Commodore 64) (Not the same game as the one available on GOG with the same name)

Going even more oldschool than that though I'd have to say Rob Hubbard's musical masterpiece from "Master of Magic" on the Commodore 64. He was truly a master at making the C64's SID chip dance and make music and sound effects that seemed impossible on the hardware and certainly went beyond what the designers of the sound chip thought it was capable of. In fairness this piece is based on music written by someone else but heavily modified by Hubbard in his trademark style. Nonetheless he deserves credit for this musical masterpiece along with the authors of the music which it is based upon.

I normally listen to in-game music either once, or for a single gaming session or so (single player games only) and then shut it off or turn it way way down. For multiplayer games I always disable the music so that it does not interfere with my ability to hear people talking to me or cause other problems (especially in LAN games where you don't want 8 computers all playing the same music simultaneously at different places in the same song creating a huge wall of noise in the room everyone has to shout over top of). As such I can't really think of very many others that stand out to me off the top of my head. The music in Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II is pretty good though too.

Well, I'm not being able to edit my post anyomre. Tried to edit it 3 or 4 times with my full descriptions.

I will try to contact GOG on what's happening.
As for now, share the awesomeness :)

My best guess is that it's too long. Try breaking it down into smaller posts.
Myst III: Exile - Theme from Edanna
Fantastic theme, each time I hear it I immediately feel like I'm being transported into Edanna.

Journey - the entire score
Perhaps talked about to death over the years since it came to exist, but it doesn't lessen the impact it still has and the talent Austin Wintory exhibits.

T'ai Fu: Wrath of the Tiger - overlooked score by Michael Giacchino (of Lost, Medal of Honor, Pixar, etc. fame)
It may not be Giacchino at his best (that was Medal of Honor, as far as his game work goes) but it showcases a variety of sound that he hasn't really ventured back to since Lost made him a heavy hitter all those years ago.

Outcast - the entire score
High quality work from Lennie Moore (a name that should be seen more often in modern games but isn't!) and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra and high on the list of greatest game music ever recorded.

(no links, as I'm restricted from posting them but rest assured the above is readily found on YouTube)
