Way back when (probably around when the Orange Box on PS3 came out), I played Portal 2 and the co-op (with a friend) on the PS3.

As I recall, we found that we could solo some levels but that others required both of us doing things in close timing - so that either of us could not 'solo' the co-op mode.

That said, my memory is fuzzy about it now - but I think we did find youtube let's plays showing people solo'ing the co-op modes.

So I'd say try to look up some vids before deciding it can't be done..

I wasn't kidding about the GlaDOS thing, btw. The natural assumption is that, since you're both "physically" present in the same location, and she is apparently talking to you through speakers mounted in the room, you are hearing the same things. For the most part this is true, but occasionally she will say different things to each player. Usually it happens when she makes personal remarks about one or the other of you, and it adds an extra dimension to the humor.

Most of the comments she made to me were about how supposedly well I was doing better than him.

Having the same problem myself. Almost all my gamer friends play exclusively on PC and the few that have a PS3 refuse to play anything mainstream. And many of the games we would have agreed to play together have already been shut down anyway. Man, screw this shit.

Having finished it, I'd say some levels were possible, but they won't be have as fun as playing with another human. Or rather different kind of fun, it definitely would be interesting to try and finish some by oneself.

That's my point. It sounds like she's talking through speakers in the room, which leads to the natural assumption that you and your co-op partner are hearing the same things being said, but in fact you aren't. The game sends different audio streams to the two players. What you hear her say over the speakers is not necessarily the same as what zeogold hears her say over the speakers.

I dunno, I heard that same thing about "Yes, blue/orange, you're right, that WAS entertaining" even when I was the one who got destroyed, so he no doubt heard it too.

True, but occasionally it is different, and quite amusingly so. I played the co-op campaign with a colleague using voice chat originally, and we at least found some of it funny. Often she would give her usual "damning with faint praise" spiel to one player, while thoroughly slagging him off to the other.
