Seriously? I've been using this site for quite a while as you can see by my library. Did you really need to add pop ups? So far they interrupted me redeeming a code for my kid's account and making a purchase on mine while I was trying to enter CC info.

This is not the way to go
AdBlock is your friend.
GOG doesn't run pop-ups as far as I know. Only exception is for a deal with Amazon, where GOG will apparently run a set of sponsored ads when you redeem the key. If you are seeing pop-ups outside of that, you may want to check your PC for malware.

I thought this thread was about the incredibly aggravating pop-ups that now occur whenever one is trying to browse through the titles in GOG's catalog.

GOG certainly does run those pop-ups, and they need to be abolished.

I might be misunderstanding, but do you mean the way games "pop-out" when you hover over them in the store? Or is there another pop-up I'm missing? I went to

https://www.gog.com/en/games

And tried clicking various things, nothing popped up unless I hovered over a game. I'm sorry if I'm being dense here.

It can be easily done with a single rule in Stylish (or similar) browser addon.

My guess no one in india pays GOG to advertise their crap.
There are some new popups on GOG.com, but I can't say that they have ever interrupted me from doing anything.

The main two types are:
ROKT-powered ads that pop up AFTER you've made a purchase, or redeemed a game. These have been confirmed by GOG Staff.
• GOG Sale Reminders that pop up on the bottom right side of the website (see attachment). These do not appear to be library-aware, because it advertised games that I already own.

Are these "Sale Reminders" new? Or at least newly activated? Because I got them twice now (yesterday+today).

Funny thing is: I already own all advertised games (Dungeon Keeper 2, Witcher 2, ...) which makes these pop-ups pointless (and increasingly annoying). Is it a bug? Did GOG confuse owned/ not owned flags in the script or something?

Okay - that's not a pop-up. That's a pop-out. They are relatively new; I saw one a few months ago.

Pop-ups appear in new windows and are usually the result of either malware or 90s/early 2000s web design/desperation for ad revenue. As far as I am aware, GoG doesn't use pop-ups, only pop-outs.
Adblock is a modern marvel. And GOG, I've already declined your cookies. STOP pestering me about declining them everytime I visit the site. Every 3rd day or so I have to tell you AGAIN I don't want your spying shit on my machine. Accept the L and move on, for fuck sake.
No, not Adblock. Ublock O. I've had it installed for so many years, and you can look at the code there.

I'm not a web dev. To me it doesn't matter whether the ads pop up, down, in, out, left, right, over, or under.

Today, I got the third sales notification. Once again advertising games I already own. That's a 6-of-6 failure rate by GOG. Impressive.

Next time I'll do some inspection and try to find something distinct enough for an ad-blocker to catch.

Yeah, that's the thing. While neither this nor the ROKT ads are pop-ups in a "traditional sense" due to neither opening a new browser window, the end result is still the same. They still pop up on top of other content. Semantics and technicalities are irrelevant, we're talking about user experience.

I have also received several of these and it was also a 6 out of 6 failure in terms of them advertising owned games to me. Some may think that perhaps I have purchased those games very recently and something somewhere hasn't synced up yet, but that's not the case. I have owned these games for months, if not years. What makes it even worse though, is that in my case, they seem to be determined to sell me Hollow Knight, which isn't even on sale. If it was on sale, then it has expired a long time ago.

I like GOG and I want them to succeed as much as possible, so I honestly do not even mind these pop-ups, but what I do mind is their content. They keep advertising owned games and they are unaware of what's actually on sale.

It might indeed be useful to know if a game that meets our tastes is about to lose its discount, but these ads need to be accurate. Apply the "Show only discounted" and "Hide all owned products" filters to these pop-ups. Then they may actually be of some use.
