Lifthrasil: I wonder how many people already got killed due to this game (and due to being stupid) and how many more have to die before some update is enforced that sees to it that no Pokemon are placed in dangerous or unethical places.
As of now, no one has been recorded as dying because of Pokémon Go. Additionally, no one will have to die to get those updates in place. The game's developer, Niantic, is already in the process of altering Pokémon and PokéStop locations to avoid inappropriate locations such as places of worship. The thing everyone fails to keep in mind is that this game is still essentially in beta. The current version is 0.29. Many features have not been implemented yet and most of the GPS/AR data was just ported over from Niantic's previous mobile game, Ingress. Personally, I wouldn't have released the game in its current version, but I imagine they had a due date this needed to be released by. Much of the issues and complaints players and non-players have will be addressed in the coming months.

MaGo72: If Pokemon Go wants to send mails using your Google Account, well why won't it or do any other stuff you permitted it to be able to do
This was an oversight on Niantic's part. It was not maliciousness, just carelessness. They patched the game two days ago to reduce the scope of access that they have to your Google account.

Shadowstalker16: And now millions of people who didn't know of a pokemon videogame with proper mechanics and battle systems will experience pokemon for the first time with this garbage [snip]. This game is for social media addicted retards with insufficient attention spans to learn real game mechanics.
1. Calling it garbage is quite subjective.
2. Allowing millions of people to introduce themselves to the world of Pokémon is a smart business move.
3. I barely use social media. I feel I have access to my full mental faculties. I believe my attention span is within the acceptable parameters for someone my age. I have been playing "real games" since 1983. I play Pokémon Go.
That is hilarious, best voice acting ever?

Was that the donald duck voice? lol
Thing is getting worse. People who can't use the app in their area, news say they ask of third party people to provide them access to the game, stuff which some exploited to hack them and their smartphones. Also, some areas are declared off limits, like graveyards etc... I was reading an article on that and almost choked on my coffee and cookies, i was enjoyed at the moment, from hysterical laughs... Now imagine a bunch of kids entering a graveyard in midnight, just tho hunt ghost pokemon, this would be insanity and fucktard level paranoia!

Thing is getting in news, both local and international and is becoming very troubling. More accidents are bound to happen and the places some kiddies enter, are really dangerous. Especially a graveyard during night-time, in places where there are no guards (imagine crossing the path of the psycho, new age freaks who desecrate tombs and use bones for rituals)!

This app needs to be terminated. And virtual reality project to be ended, before it endangers people who can't protect themselves (kids) or don't know of all the dangers a place at certain hours can give them.

But i almost choked from laughing. Thing is hilarious. "People playing pokemon are discouraged and prohibited from entering graveyards"! LoL. Epic. Fabulous.

This. While I do think that the app itself is a disappointment in comparison to the Pokemon games that I have played (R/B/Y/G/S), it's still fun to tinker with. It's also a nice proof of concept that shows that there is no shortage of demand for either Pokemon or Augmented Reality. Who knows; maybe this will be a precursor to a more fleshed out AR Pokemon game. Maybe not. Either way, coming down on the people who are playing just comes across as dickish.

I can't find any stories about that. If you could link them, that would be awesome.

From what I can tell, the areas people are requesting people not use the app are in places where it would be considered disrespectful to the dead (Holocaust museum and graveyards in general), in the car while driving (no shit), or at work while on the clock (again, no shit). The only incident I have been able to find of someone almost getting hurt was some who hit a tree, but that's not surprising; given the number of people who think it's ok to text and drive, I'm actually amazed that there isn't a known fatality yet. I can't find a single story that graveyards were somehow designated as off limits due to kids going into them at night to hunt ghost Pokemon unsupervised in shitty parts of town (the only one I [url=https://www.reddit.com/r/pokemongo/comments/4roye4/i_went_to_my_local_cemetery_to_find_some_ghost/]found went to one in the middle of the day); there aren't likely to be many more given the number of sites confirming that [url=http://www.idigitaltimes.com/pokemon-go-myths-busted-eevee-evolutions-graveyard-ghosts-and-more-545482]Pokemon [url=https://www.reddit.com/r/TheSilphRoad/comments/4sa7gz/ghost_pokemon_patterns_up_to_now/]work that way.

Also, I don't know what the hell kind of cemeteries you have where you live, but the bit about 'new age freaks' seems more than a little fanciful.

This app needs to be terminated. And virtual reality project to be ended, before it endangers people who can't protect themselves (kids) or don't know of all the dangers a place at certain hours can give them.
Again, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of support for any of your concerns. Yeah, there's at least one instance of some asshat playing it on his phone while driving, but the app wasn't the problem so much as it was that he was actively choosing to endanger people's lives by dicking around with his phone; getting rid of the app wouldn't fix that problem, since people have been doing that shit like crazy ever since we had phones that weren't just phones.

Sorry my dear Jonesy, i can't find articles in English about people getting hacked. I read it in local news from internet newspaper, but the source i use is legit and 100% accurate.

About the rest, technology is becoming dangerous. Even though i partly agree with your text, i say no VR for kids! The end.

Considering Google and the guy who founded Keyhole Inc.(founded with money from Q-Tel) have their hands in founding Niantic I would say they tried out if people would swallow it and as the first articles emerged they just backed down: "Yes, oh sorry, that was an error we will patch it."

1.Not when compared to the real games it isn't.
2. I understand it is, but most people already know of the anime and many people think it came first (no one in my college I've talked to knew there was a game before the anime that started things off), and even then, its a good way to milk the franchise, but it troubles me to see a franchise I love being put on the cutting board to be cut into pieces of retarded social game BS.
3.The first sentence answers it then :D Also, what you said probably doesn't apply to people born after 1994 with social media accounts and smartphones today.

Either way, I'm sure you understand I'm not arguing anything factual but more ranting about it because of my feelings. I feel its a part of the senseless protectiveness we / I feel toward our favorite franchises and the cynicism that comes with other interpretations of those franchises.

The real question, is pokemon specific to a certain area or is it just random events / random pokemon that appear. Do people need to go to graveyards to catch ghost pokemon or water type pokemon at the beach?

jimmmmmo: The real question, is pokemon specific to a certain area or is it just random events / random pokemon that appear. Do people need to go to graveyards to catch ghost pokemon or water type pokemon at the beach?
It seems to be completely random.

If you want to go actually go somewhere to catch more pokemon, the best option is the most densely-populated area you can find. The more players there are in the general vicinity, the more likely someone is to be using a lure module. This attracts more pokemon not just for the player, but everyone else around the pokestop they used it on. At a certain critical mass, the number of players will guarantee that lure modules are constantly in effect around local pokestops.

So don't bother exploring off the beaten path, just stick near pokestops in densely populated areas where loitering is okay. Trust me, I live in an area that's very far (about 45 minutes walking distance) to the nearest pokestop. There is nothing special out here...

1) Opinions are always subjective. You gave your opinion, other people have different opinions. I see you are from a non-native-English country, so perhaps you just haven't been taught the word correctly? Subjective means "relating to the way a person experiences things in his or her own mind". Saying "this game is garbage" is always subjective because that's an opinion, it's a person's reaction to something. Saying "this game allows you to capture 250 pokemon" is objective.

2) Can we please not have fandom purity wars in this forum? I know it's super tempting but I hope everyone here is over middle school age and can resist the urge.

3) Stereotyping people based on their social media use is stupid. For one thing, this forum counts as social media, and I know you're on here all the time. For one, social media use has no correlation with anything important, it's jsut too widespread.

$14 million.

That's how much the creators of this game made as of yet.
The only thing I want to know is when will this thing Go! away. I thought Overwatch hype is annoying and inescapeable, but this has easily outdone it.
