Pheace: With posts like 'I think I'm going to visit this nearby park I've never been to before, looks like a great place to capture pokemon!' I dread to think about all the minors wandering around in unknown spaces because of this ...

yogsloth: Legit.

Can't wait to see how many Pokeman are hiding in crack houses, construction sites, and biker bars.
There's at least one in a police station in Australia. Police had to issue a warning asking people to please stop coming inside the station to catch it.

Sandshrew. From their Facebook page:

"For those budding Pokémon Trainers out there using Pokémon Go - whilst the Darwin Police Station may feature as a Pokéstop, please be advised that you don't actually have to step inside in order to gain the Pokéballs.

It's also a good idea to look up, away from your phone and both ways before crossing the street. That Sandshrew isn't going anywhere fast.

Stay safe and catch 'em all!"

Thank you all. I am downloading Pokemon Zeta/Omicron fan game.
Does Pokemon GO need internet connection? Or micro transaction?
I know someone who maybe interested in it.

jimmmmmo: nothing for PC that i know of, but for DS/3DS is Alpha Saphire (which i highly recommend) and you can get the orignial red/blue/yellow on the nintendo online store, which will always be the best in the series :D
So, for someone who never played a Pokémon game, where should they start? The old ones? I never understood what changes from red to blue to other colours.

Pokemon Go is free to download, there are micro transactions, but they are not needed to enjoy the game.

I was able to catch 9 pokemon in 30 mins and pickup about 20+ pokeballs and 3 lucky eggs from pokestops

Yes you need an internet connection (must be somewhat decent) and have GPS enabled on the phone. ATM the game can be abit of a drain on your battery, hopefully it will be corrected/improved in future updates.

I would say start with the classics (red/blue/yellow). Each of the those games are 95% identical with a few different pokemon in either game (map layout are 100% identical). My preference was Pokemon blue, as that was the game i bought many years ago when it first released.

As I understand, Pokemon Go has the same issue as Streetpass. If you don't live in Japan or travel, then that's just tough.

Edit: Ahah, just as happened before, the servers got hammered so bad as with the last pokemon launch (Pokemon Bank) that they had to pause the entire thing.

In this case its different, as when you visit a gym you can leave your pokemon there for others to battle against (you don't need to necessarily pass a person with the game, moreso the gym where the pokemon has been left to battle, there are alot of people playing atm. When i was out walking around the suburb there were 30+ people walking around near the pokestops and gyms. As the game is on both IOS and Android the install base will be gargantuan in regards to any previous nintendo install base.

It isn't the people that's the issue, it's the whole, "Go out and travel" that's the issue.

Start with the newer ones. There are so many quality of life improvements that later generations have it's extremely difficult to play the old ones.

Plus, used Pokemon games cost almost as much as current ones, you can't really save money by buying used.

Alpha Sapphire / Omega Ruby or X / Y are out now. Moon / Sun are just coming out later this year, so that might be nice as a present. If you do go for an older game I wouldn't go any older than Black / White.

Pokemon games come in 'generations'. EX, Red/Blue/Yellow are one generation. Generations take place in the same region, with basically the same story, just slightly different pokemon available. Different generations take place in different regions and have different stories, although there are never really any drastic changes. Later generations are genuinely better in things like gameplay, user experience, interface, etc. Lots of people are diehard fans of the first game they played, but honestly a modern gamer is better off trying the newer games as their first experience.

Only problem with the official pokemon games is that they're so easy, so you have to wait for the ROM hacks to come out years later to get much replay value. It's actually gotten worse in the most recent games since the enemy trainers have not kept up with the series' power creep. It's not just new pokemon that are better, old pokemon have been buffed too. It's gotten to the point where pokemon like Butterfree now have access to such powerful moves that they can curb-stomp elite 4 and champion teams if you do everything right. The games are still fun, but if you're actually serious about strategy then you'll realize the game has kid gloves on and you aren't going to get a satisfying challenge.
