There's always room for three?... :P

tinyE: I'm serious about this one, strange as that me be. :P

A lot of times when trolls come in (the anti GOG guy pushing DRM) I get caught up, end up losing my temper, and becoming an even bigger asshole than I normally am. It would be nice to just be able to ignore him and let someone else deal with their bullshit. Contrary to popular belief I despise confrontation and the slightest bit of it can totally fuck up my whole week.
Now that you put it like that... fair point. We could block the original fellow who started this topic :P

The price would be way too high.

This is a good community, except some morons. When you see someone being 'bullied', feel free to intercede. I guess no one would be mad if you PMed one of the long term, high rep members to ask for help in extreme cases (feel free to inform me when someone is being bullied and I'll write something, if no one more suitable is available).

Imposing any form of censorship would do so much more harm than good. Self regulation within the community works quite well as far as I see it.
I never saw a more civil discussion forums then the gog forums are. Sure there are some topics that inflame people and to be fair I sometimes get carried away on some topics and say what I shouldn't. Moderation on the other side usually just turns in to full fledged censorship. Some ignore functionalities could be helpfull though. Although we already have an ignore button for pms so maybe that is enough?

That's where the monocle comes in. No one in their right mind is going to ignore someone with a monocle.

Magmarock: I would also like to see an ignore and maybe a report button. Most sites even with laxed modding have that.
An ignore button could be useful actually to avoid some of the drama and confrontations that I have seen here on the forum. As awesome as the GOG community is there are still very few trolls here that I generally ignore myself but not everyone has the patience and capability to avoid being drawn in. The report button is there and unfortunately prone to being constantly abused against a lot of folks that have never offended anyone as well.

and to think he always brags about his large tentacles!
Not that it matters to anyone else but I don't think I'd use the ignore function, in part because of this:

darthspudius: but even then you might miss one of us adding something useful to you or the general discussion!
There are one or two people with whom I've had repeated and ongoing disagreements (admittedly, that hasn't surfaced in quite a while), but there have also been good discussions between us - sometimes within the same thread. Which, to me anyway, shows that periodic disagreements are just one of those things. It's within my own power and ability to defuse things between myself and any other member, and I will choose to do so on my own.

If I can't self-moderate at this point in life, then I really need to seek counseling.

Moderation? This is one of the calmest forums on the internet. There's no reason for GOG to assign extra-man power just to moderate 5 trolls.OP saying this forum could possibly face danger to eventually becoming on the same level as a 4chan board probably makes this the most broad usage of hyperbole ever.

The forums are moderated, merely with a very light hand. Overall, this is a good thing; there are limits, but GOG allows them to be as wide as possible. Funnily enough, it seems to discourage really major trolls. Normally, I see one of three responses to "troll" topics here: a) topic is dealt with in reasonably respectful and serious fashion, thus undermining the troller's wishes for fireworks; b) topic is cheerfully derailed by those who see signs of potential trouble and defused with rampant silliness; or c) thread gets few responses and floats into the depths.

Overall, I think GOGgers do a pretty decent job of self-policing, and am unconvinced that a moderation change would be an improvement. (Even though I wish fewer people practiced thread necromancy on years-old topics! :) )
^ yeah im good at derailling
