Magmarock: Most sites have moderation for a reason. The biggest reason I think GOG should have moderation is because so much of it is community driven. The GOG forums isn't 4chan nor “a voice for all” community forum. It's meant to be a place where consumers can have discussions would make using GOG better. This is getting harder to do.

Take this very thread for example. Look at the amount of people going off topic; accusing me of trolling, and just trying to sabotage this very discussion. All over a pretty harmless suggestion in all honesty. Some users seem to think I'm trying to bring fourth the end of free speech or something; over a two paragraph request for a little law and order.

omega64: I hope I'm wrong but you're not suggesting a moderator should stop people from going off topic right?
I really like the way Escapist run their website. They have a very fair warning system in place. I suggest going over and taking a look at how they do things as a point of reference.

That system involves lots of spam mail from moderators, no thanks.

Lifthrasil: And no feature-wishlist-suggestion thread would be complete without the appropriate counter-wish. So here it is:

http://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/dont_moderate_the_forum_more

Get your collective butts over there and let the GOGs know, that they are doing fine with the moderation on the moderation and that we like the place as it is.
Voted, thanks!:)
We used to have moderators.

They all fled when tineE arrived.

Magmarock: Don't even get me started on anything critical. If you post an open critical thread on a game or a GOG policy then all sense of maturity disappears.
avatar
timppu: Then again, people should be allowed to be critical towards your critic.
Yes, but there's a difference between attacking an argument and attacking a person and just plane name calling. If someone says they hate a game that you like for reasons 1, 2, 3 you can disagree all you want. You can even say the argument is stupid and tear it apart all you want.

However when your response is something like "Get the fuck out of here you piece of shit and get your games elsewhere." I don't that is acceptable behavior and I think that should be enforced. You can disagree all you want and you won't have to worry about me insulting you either.

Sounds more like a "tough shit" situation really, if you're referring to the thread that spawn this silliness in the first place.

Lifthrasil: The only thing this forum truly lacks is a good search function!
avatar
stg83: Believe me, that is not the only thing the forum lacks. Features and functionality wise it is extremely archaic unless you use Barefoot Essentials which I don't yet.
I would also like to see an ignore and maybe a report button. Most sites even with laxed modding have that.

but even then you might miss one of us adding something useful to you or the general discussion!

I don't worry about that in the least. I tend to find insults mostly funny. Especially the kind of insults tiny and darth throw at each other.
I thought we had a report button.

The ignore button would be very nice I'll admit.

No it won't, you'd miss me!
^ get a room you two

Magmarock: I would also like to see an ignore ...
You know, many people already have that function built in. You should try it. If you read something you don't like, just ignore it. No need to let some mod arbitrarily decide what may and what may not be said on the forum.

Well, the argument has been made that perhaps, if you can't deal with occassional behaviour of that kind, you may just want to move to other, moderated discussion boards as opposed to trying to change how the entire community works to your, personal preferences. You'll find that the latter is never looked too keenly upon. Sure, if a sufficient amount of this community wants to be moderated, it would be the right step for GOG - but that doesn't really seem to be the case

I'm serious about this one, strange as that me be. :P

A lot of times when trolls come in (the anti GOG guy pushing DRM) I get caught up, end up losing my temper, and becoming an even bigger asshole than I normally am. It would be nice to just be able to ignore him and let someone else deal with their bullshit. Contrary to popular belief I despise confrontation and the slightest bit of it can totally fuck up my whole week.
