It's the general GOG forum. Meaning, all gog discussions not related to specific games, for which there are game related forums, but to the platform itself, should go there. Not any off-topic discussions.That's where moderation would come in, like in any other forum.

No, that's not an "easiest solution." Users who don't wanna be inundated with spam or other such drivel threads shouldn't have to do work in order to hide it. And the work would never end since there would also be new spam/drivel being created in the future.

The OP is right: GOG needs an offtopic forum, period.

And forum games should just be banned since they are already against GOG's existing rules against spam. Putting forum games in an "offtopic forum" would just transfer the forum games spam problem from here to there, rather than to eliminate it entirely, the latter of which would be much better.

How anyone of course sees a Chat forum, is purely their own view.

You could see it as a place where gamers let their hair down and get to know one another chatting about all sorts of things, shared interests etc ... that is a perfectly valid use, as chatting is a social endeavor.

If you want to chat about games and movies, and aspects related to them, they usually have their own forum threads.
And GOG start many other sales etc threads.
We also have a Wishlist forum.

What I would like though, is a Complaints Forum, and I agree with one for Forum Games and also a Gifting Forum, not to mention a Help Forum ... bound to be some others that could reduce the clutter here.

What you mean with "should" - that you want it to be like this or that you believe GOG wants it to be like this?
And what is a "gog discussion"?

Post 3: There are extensions out there to filter threads and topics one dislikes....you may feel free to use them.

Post 17: Sometimes life involves a bit of work....and it's often quicker to hide such threads one's self(via extensions made for such purposes like Adalia Fundamentals). There aren't that many, and they make people happy....or are you against people being happy just because you need to scroll past them sometimes?

If you dislike them, btw, you could also install and use the aforementioned extensions....it only takes a few clicks.

There should be a forum for gaming in a general, an off-topic forum and a GOG support/questions forum. Then all the individual game forums. Why this wasn't the case 10 years ago is beyond me.

Yes, it is. De facto the "General" forum IS the offtopic-forum. For game specific topics you go to the game forums (which are mostly quite dead).

GOG has been asked to improve the forum structure for years. They are quite deaf on that ear.

I think that yes, as others have mentioned, we are standing in the wading pool that so happen to be the shoals of the free-for-all forum.

It is true that even so, there could be some useful catagorization such as giveaways, typical tech/game discussion, and an "everything else" secton. We don't need to divvy things up to the point of Peak Something Awful, but a little forum decorum goes a long way.

It would also be nicer if quoting posts wasn't such a manual labor.

They are dead because if you try to comment on an older thread it is considered as necroing, and you get a ban for it.

That's funny. I never tried that, but it sounds like something GOG would do.

Some people here would likely like that....the ones who seem to think GOG forums are their own personal refuge, where people should only talk about things they like and in a manner that they like, I mean.

It will never happen, separate Off-Topic forum but there was a Conversation Free For All thread some years ago that was never really or should I say, there was no flame wars.
