I guess I find it weird that people can't see the difference between various European settlers with similar values building countries out of nothing and random gang members, drug dealers and other illegals coming in their country to collect social security and be a general nuisance like all over Europe and southern USA, and now Canada.

Not to mention the violent cultural clashes between the various colonising forces in the 1600 and 1700s that the area that would become the USA suffered. Or the various attempts at cleansing out the less desirable sorts of whites in the 1800 and early 1900s. Or the violent subsumption of the 1920s Irish gangs by the Italian gangs of the 1950s. Or those same Italian gangs now having been elbowed out by Eastern European families.

I really don't see how JonTron as a voice actor would be politicizing a game... He barely speaks his views on politics. Both him and PewDiePie are about as plain as you can get.

Exactly. JonTron's voice acting had nothing to do with politics at all. What he said in a debate (even if it was racist) is completely separate from lending his voice in a project about cute animals.

Playtonic decided to publicly distance themselves from him, and announce that they are removing his voice work from the game because of political reasons. This is the moment and reason the game had been politicized.

This is why I chose to withdraw my Digital Deluxe preorder of the game, along with how they are acting in forums and on twitter.

And yet I bet if he had spoken or virtue-signaled to voted for Hillary, there wouldn't be any backlash at all, as the pattern continues to emerge.

I wonder if they were strong-armed into taking a stance, either advertisers or future outlet stores or even KickStarter told them if they didn't disavow him they'd never work with them again and actively work against them? It's hard to tell.

Far more likely they had lawsuits filed against them and the cost of fighting said lawsuits from SJW's would be more than the project itself, so it's easier to drop JonTron than it is to legally fight the battle. That seems like the most likely scenario. Unfortunately we won't find out probably for a while, if ever the real reasons behind this.

Yep. What y'all fail to realize is that not many people would be aware of this if they didn't make a stink about it.

P.S. Jontron isn't racist. Let's quit with this fakeness. This overplayed card is actually hurting actual racism. Heard of the boy who cried wolf?

Edit: I also dont care about the sales numbers. I just don't want my money going towards a bigoted game company who decided to politicize their game. There are too many other games out there for me to miss the handful I skip.

If you look at the stats, the black community makes up about ~15% of the population but does ~50% of the crime (or was it violent crime?)... then how are you to interpret that data? There is an abnormally high rate of crime among black folk. And murder rate is higher especially against their own people. That's pure statistics.

So if I say black people are 8x more likely to commit crimes, that isn't racist, that's stats.

After reading through this mess, it just occurred to me, that apparently most people participating in this thread love slinging politically-flavored mud at each other, but have no interest in Yooka-Laylee, or haven't even heard of it, even though it's been advertised right here on GOG and is due for release in a few weeks.

... that moment when you start wondering, if perhaps you should look around for a new video games forum.

Without even going into the accuracy of the data, did it occur to you that the black community as a whole in the US tends to be poorer than the white community and that might affect things?

If you say that black people are disproportionally represented in the arrest and victimization reports that are used to create the crime rate statistics due to a wide array of sociopolitical factors working in tandem, that isn't racist.

If you say that it's because they're black and black people are natural born criminals, yeah, that's racist.

I'll agree with you. However I'll have to agree with Sargon of Akkad that JonTron was likely meaning and referring to crime statistics and didn't articulate it when he said it. I don't believe JonTron is racist or meant to be, it's just how it came out.

I saw the Kickstarter for Yooka-Laylee. I've seen the preview that Jim Sterling played like 6 months ago. I know of the game in general. It doesn't look like my kind of game. So I didn't look into any real detail of it nor have I kept up on it after the Kickstarter ended.. But that didn't mean I was totally oblivious to it.

Now BloodStained Ritual... that I'm looking forward to :) Course I'm not keeping up their updates/details either...
