This is great news, I just bought FF 7,8, 9 and Vagrant Story on PSN (Big in Japan Sale), so hopefully there will be another avenue of curatorship (is that a word?) for PS1 stuff.

ericmachado70: Wish GOG would start selling PS1 games on here especially jrpgs
You can wish all you want but it is not the point of the subject.

Wouldn't mind some ps1 games that is for sure. Not the JRPG's though. The market is already too full with them.
So they are selling emulated software for a bios they probably don't own via a rental system. Sounds great!
Fantastic news!

More classic games a new generation can enjoy, and hopefully help conserve some more games for the future. Will be interesting to see how good the emulation is.

At a quick glance at the list, I am looking forward to Loaded, ReLoaded and Koudelka.
With the BIOS? Yeah this will end in a Sony lawsuit.

I bet the emulation is sub-par as well, as is usually the case with commercial releases.
If they have the rights to the game and use a HLE BIOS I suppose it could work.
It'll be interesting to see if they get sued into oblivion.

Hmmmm.... this might not be true, but here is what one of the people say on game's Steam forum:

They are using PCSXR, a GPLed emulator with no release of the source changes the company made. There is no license acknowledgement, nor release of sources like Wisdom Tree did for its Super Noah's Ark engine port.

So no, its not legal at all.

That sounds pretty much like what I expected, I would not be surprised to see these games quietly disappear before long.
Some pics revealing the underlying PCSXR:

Well that's that, they're officially shameless thieves.

On their site there's Koudelka, does this means they can release it on Steam?

Well, I guess it's off to report them to VALVe and PCSXR.
Oh wow, this is going to be good. Can't wait for the lawsuits and refunds.

Fenrir007: Interesting, but usually those officially emulated games have absolutely awful emulation quality that pales in comparison to any of the emulators already out there in the market.

Why don't they just make a deal with emulator developers so that they may use the emulator on their official release? It's so much better developed.

Also, if they are using the psx bios, I wonder if they got the rights for it.
Is that true of the Sega Classics Mega Drive / Genesis games too? Is it best to download the game from Steam and then take the ROM and run it in another emulator? - which one?
