1 - What is Playnite

2 - Are you sure it is not a false positive?

1. It's an application to unite multiple game launchers.
If this isn't a false positive, it's most likely from one of the add-ons that you have installed. I'm not getting it and see no mention of it in r/playnite/ either.
The more pressing question is why on earth is someone still using Norton.

You can look interesting, and yes most of the time THAT's good enough

okay, good to hear.... I was already contemplating other ways

Galaxy is also not really something i would recommend keeping a complete library...... i always feel watched!!!

Nvdia's new app is still in the making

MSI had a great gaming app but ... i'm not sure what evolution they are going through

I was planning on looking through XboX app but haven't done so far

Playnite was something i quite enjoyed and yes i dipped into the other addons to see if i could get some more functionality, such as achievements and such, and other means but i might try it again after i reinstall everyhting

Throw the file at virustotal.com and jotti.org to see what other AV products have to say about it. As I said in some other post, the Galaxy installer also triggers two of the 68 scanners on VT, and since I downloaded that file months ago, and once again now, with no difference in a byte-wise comparison, I am reasonably sure that it's false positives. Everything "generic" can be a false positive, since by design these launchers and installers do things that other programs don't but malware always does, so it's easy to trigger alarms.

I wonder about you feeling watched by Galaxy but not so by MSI, NVidia or other things that aren't, say, OpenSource. What would make some NV program less "observant" than Galaxy? o.O

Actually DRM free launcher and one the best you can use. Works great with GOG games.

Wasn't Heroic Game Launcher the go-to thing?

Yes, for Linux, but if you're using Windows, Playnite is an excellent choice. The only downside is that Playnite does not allow you to download your games directly. However, it has integrations that add all your games from multiple storefronts on your PC as long as they are installed. It has almost all the features of the Poplaur launcher available today, including integrations for emulation.

It's very lightweight and, in my opinion, much better than HGL. Unfortunately, there is no Linux version available.

I use it for all my GOG and retail games installed on my PC.
Just to be sure: that one:
github.com/Playnite/playnite
?
Might consider this, if only to see if that solves my Northgard "not connected" co-op issue, but I guess it just uses Galaxy in the background.

Yup, that's it.

Thanks! However, meanwhile I was following a link on SourceForge, which led to this project:
github.com/JosefNemec/Playnite
Different timestamps, different file lists, but links to the same "playnite.link" homepage at least. So the code I originally found might be an old project that for some reason got recreated instead of updated. The time stamps suggest that it is.

Welcome.

That could be. Playnite been around for sometime now. I never actually downloaded playnite from anyway else but the homepage.

After wrestling with that sites TOR blockage for a while, I got the download, but that only has a Downloader, not the full installer. With those, I can't send the full installer to the above VT or Jotti sites and instead have to rely on my own installed AV alone, which I don't like to do. The installer from SF triggered Bkav pro detection on VT, the downloader came up clean, but that's to be expected in almost every case. I'll see if I'm going to bite the bullet. :)
