The free <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span>, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span> and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head <span class="bold">here</span> for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span> and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at <span class="bold">twitter/GOGcom</span> with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
A DRM-free demo of Shadwen!!!! the game I was waiting for!!!! for mac too!!! for Free!!!!
WOW.

... but I cannot download it... the download for mac is broken sigh

EDIT.
I'm downloading it on gog galaxy.
Anyway it's great to see trine developer make a stealth game... my favourite developer (with really great support) on my favourite type of game (stealth).

I also think that trine 3 was a great game... I wish frozenbyte will get good reviews and sell this time.

This game seems pretty cool from what I have played of it, it looks like Thief and Ico had a baby!
The contest idea is also pretty cool, I will participate for sure since I have already completed my first run.

Here is my first score, if I manage to do better I will update my post.

I finally managed to get a better score!

GOG = Good New Demos

Right?

Or maybe it was Good New Indie Movies?

Good Recent Games?

No no, wait, I got it: DLC packs, extras sold separately, and utter trash AAA?

I always get one this wrong.
The demo seems to start ok on my system: (it's at least about 7 years old)

Gateway desktop
64 bits Q8300 Intel Core 2 Quad 2.5GHz cpu
8G RAM

The graphic card is younger (2 or 3 years) but not exactly high end: GEFORCE GE GTX 650 (1 GB)

I did not try running it at 1920 x 1080, I left it at 1280 x 720.

You can switch between 64 and 32 bits in the opening menu.

I'm not sure where I have to go once started and the "tutorial" finished. I do like the time mechanism, it's like real time turned based or turned based real time.
I beat the demo but I when I tried to save the screen it just saved the desktop. Fun demo found it hard but i generally suck at these type of games. :) My framerate was a bit low I think but honestly with the game mechanics frame rater isn't that important. But I can lower settings some more.

CharlesGrey: GOG offers a wide range of old games, and Indie games with low requirements, so it's not like there isn't already a huge selection of titles available for low to mid-range PCs. Modern games with high requirements are still the exception here, so it's kind of bizarre you're complaining about them.

0Grapher: I see the somewhat worrisome trend that games with simplistic (often 2D) graphics require unrealistically powerful hardware and they still run badly.
Yeah, i don't mind if something like Witcher 3 doesn't' work but it annoys me when 2d or isometric games that look like they came from 1999 but just with higher resolutions don't work well.

Is it normal for the game to be in some kind of "freeze frame" mode? The action only seems to move when I move. Is there a way to turn this off?

Update: Ok I think I see the problem. For some reason the Time and Crouch buttons are both bound to the Ctrl key.

Yeah I think it is the way the game works, I thought at first my framerate was absolutely terrible at like one frame per second. :)
So basically this is a Time game like Prince of Persia. But why isn't it advertised like that?

I think it would help out the game if all the Time functions were separate from the crouch function (Ctrl). But is it explained why the protagonist can control time? Or why we have to escort someone?

Tried the demo, I think it was a horrendous idea having time move only when you move. To combat that, I had to constantly be pushing Ctrl (crouch) or Q (or move, naturally). Didn't like it. I prefer my stealth games without such gimmicks. And what is this shit about having to babysit some girl? Wouldn't it be more fun if all you had to do was to get to the exit yourself without being seen? Now I have to clear a path for this AI who doesn't have a grappling hook, doesn't know how to jump, and does her pathfinding seemingly randomly.

I might try to do a no-kill run tomorrow but at the moment I cannot see how it's possible with such bonehead AI and gimmicky controls.

The game looks like a mix of Prince of Persia and Ico. But I still think all of the time functions should be separate and "normal time" should be enabled by default. A toggle for crouch would be nice.

Sick. I only got 600 with killing everyone.

I have to try to don't kill any guard then.

XYCat: how do I screenshot that? printscreen only gives me a printscreen of gog galaxy

mrkgnao: Don't know. But...

Since you seem to have completed the demo, how long does it take, roughly?
took me an hour. But I had a couple of level restarts and I also spent some time figuring out how to distract guards with the least amount of effort and resources. And also the girl you're supposed to be escorting behaves weird from time to time so it took some time to get her through the final run.

Do you know how the grappling hook works? I can't figure out how to move around with it. It doesn't seem to support Shadwen's weight.

you can use Fraps for a decent screenshot. Just press F10 in-game when you have Fraps running.
