The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
Cool idea. I'll try it later, though I doubt I'll do very well. My playthroughs of stealth games usually end up messy.

XYCat: how do I screenshot that? printscreen only gives me a printscreen of gog galaxy

mrkgnao: Don't know. But...

Since you seem to have completed the demo, how long does it take, roughly?
I have 47 minutes logged on the demo in Galaxy, and I've completed it.

CharlesGrey: Could you just... stop it? OK, you ( and many others here, I'm sure ) have a somewhat outdated PC, and likely can't run games such as this one. That's too bad, and honestly I'm sorry you can't play this or other more recent games, but that's just the way it is. What exactly do you intend to accomplish by making half a dozen complaint posts? Are you really suggesting that devs should only develop games for old/low range PCs? Just look at the screenshots -- obviously you can't pull off this kind of game without some decent hardware power. And those who own a reasonably up to date PC want games such as this one or Witcher 3. They didn't buy their hardware so they could play Minesweeper in 4K. :P

GOG offers a wide range of old games, and Indie games with low requirements, so it's not like there isn't already a huge selection of titles available for low to mid-range PCs. Modern games with high requirements are still the exception here, so it's kind of bizarre you're complaining about them.
Sorry, it's just that the last 2-3 weeks most games released here are of the newest and high-requirement kind, and many of these interested me otherwise -the Christie game, Thea the Awakening come to mind as well as this one. So it went like this: *sees game* "oh, looks cool, let's see further" *goes to gamepage sees system requirements* "oh shit, it's highly unlikely that I'll be able to run it" Rinse and repeat for the majority of the games that interested me otherwise but I just cannot play them because system requirements. I guess at these news here the glass filled to the brim and the water started overflowing, leading to a torrent of rants by myself about all these high-specced games.
Anyways, sorry again for annoying you, I guess I must have looked the same in your eyes as this guy that's like "I have motion sickness can't play this and that" in most release threads the whole time. I won't thus post anything more on the topic and will go offline to brood about this situation by myself...
P.S In all due honesty though, I would rather see something like Minimum reqs: 2gbs ram etc Recommended: 4gbs ram etc instead of the most-in-fashion minimum: 4gbs of ram. But I guess that's as unattainable as world peace or something...

Treasure: Ok then it's my fault for buying laptops instead of desktop pcs because of lack of space, and being a cheapass, wanting to avoid buying something over 400-500 euros (gaming laptops are over 1000 euros). Fair enough I guess... I guess I can use that fact I have a "crappy" pc (in quote marks because it's not crappy at all, compared to the 1gb Ram pc I had previously) to focus more on my backlog then...
Imo, if you want to game, a laptop is a poor choice, plain and simple. More expensive, less powerful, less keyboard space, often no numberpad, the screen is smaller, and the audio sucks. I don't understand why people game on laptops.

Desktops don't even take up that much space these days because there isn't that huge monitor issue any more. My desktop/gaming area takes up a total of 3ft x 4ft space (I typically stand at the computer because it is healthier, so no need for space for a chair.)

I'm really not trying to be a dick, honestly, it's being helpful in a critical way.
Giving a demo - Great
Giving it for a period of time - Not so great
Having a linux version from start - Awesome
Contest and prices - Great

I think it would be nice if the demo stays forever for every one and GOG should consider and demos when available.

MaxFulvus: To play on a powerful PC (regarding the gaming requirements) is a question of wealth, but to play on Mac or Linux is a question of choice in my opinion. That's my vision of "fair for everybody".
But as Groze said previously, it's a demo and it's free. We can try it and if the game doesn't run, we can keep it forever in the library and waiting for a better machine ; )
I would consider Mac a question of wealth considering how overpriced they are compared to a comparable PC. Oh, and a question of bad choice. :P

For what it's worth, recommended requirements aren't always accurate. At least in this case you can try the demo. Who knows -- if you turn down the resolution and some of the effects, maybe it will work decently. Also, I'm not sure I understand correctly how this game works, but apparently time freezes if you're not moving your own character. That would almost make it "turn-based" in a way, and because of that framerates probably aren't as important as in most Action games.

I think the demo will be available indefinitely, at least once you've added it to your library.

Downloading the demo now. I only have my work laptop at my disposal to play it, so there's a 99% it will run like shit (or not at all). Still, tons of cool ideas in this contest, so big thumbs up for that! Game also looks interesting, I freaking love that stealth stuff!
I finished the demo level. I made guards cautious 73 times... that's me in a nutshell in stealth games. No alarms though. Looking forward to the whole game.

Anyone else wished that even during kill execution one could stop time to take some sweet screenshots, then press some button for it to move 0.5 seconds forward and then you do it a couple of seconds just to enjoy it? Even better if the sound effect had followed too.

GOG.com: GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!
But you never announce contest winners or say which entries you liked. We don't even know if you forget and never deliver. It would be nice for you to change your policy on these things.

mrkgnao: Is there a limit on the number of times you can replay the demo?

You can rewind time with R and screenshot your stabs again :)
I really like this DRM-free demo idea. Hope to see it for more games. It'll definitely make me give the game a shot. I doubt I'll stand much of a chance in the contest though. I'm more of a run and gun kind of guy.
Is there a dedicated forum for the demo? Or is it just this thread?

I see the somewhat worrisome trend that games with simplistic (often 2D) graphics require unrealistically powerful hardware and they still run badly.
