The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.

omega64: Yeah, really weird that they still haven't announced it.

Konrad: We're slowly but surely going through the entires. If no one has beaten 1100 (if that's even possible), it looks like we'll have a raffle on our hands. Stay tuned!
Like said above - top score is 1110, not 1100. Plenty of screenshots is here with 1110. Exactly because 1110 is higher than 1100 (Cap.Obv.).

UPDATED: I'm too late. 8 min. Slowpoke, He-he.

SolidSnale: WOW, I scored 400, I won a punch in my face. But how GOG can know if people didn't cheat? I mean, I saw a lot of 1100 screens around, what prevents me to just attach my screen here and call the day even if that score was posted by another person?
Is there a way to identify cheaters?
1. Event is already ended. You can attach anything, but it have no meaning now. Time is out.
2. All screenshots is different. There is no EXACTLY the same. So, you can't use another screenshot, which participate in the CONTEST, without spoiling yourself.

Only my guess, but:
- the prize is not that great to fear someone messing with the screenshot in editor, it would have to be really good fake to survive careful examination. Probably harder to do than just doing it honestly.
- byte-comparing two files to find duplicates is not that hard. Comparing camera angle and position of Shadwen and Lili is harder, but with about 100 qualifying screenshots (only guess), it should be possible. They could then disqualify both, or ask both of them for clarification...

For example, I still have my 6MB png original screenshots and attached only resized jpgs here.
avatar
LiefLayer: why 1100, the highest is 1110.
it's not possible to make a no kill + no detection run (that would be 1600 points), but you can make a no detection + kill everyone that is 1110 points... the 1100 run is the no kill run, but it's 10 points less than kill everyone + no detection.

Anyway many people here made both 1110 and 1100 points run.
avatar
Konrad: Shoot, sorry. An unfortunate typo. You guys are right - 1110 seems to be the highest score that's been achieved so far.
I'll be disappointed if a kill run actually counts, ah well.

because it's really easy to get 1110 points... you scored 400 points because you only tried once or two times (and maybe this is your first stealth game)...
anyway gog request a screenshot not a video so there is no way to know for sure what you are asking, but you can try some times now and you will know that it's really easy.

to kill all with no detection you just need to use 4 bombs + blade (you don't need crossbow)... you only use bombs when there are more then 1 guards... on the first level you need only 1 bomb to kill 3 guards (one move, two are on campfire)... on second level you need one bomb to kill two guards on campfire + 1 time bomb to kill two guards on campfire + 1 time bomb to kill last two guards.
You have to kill all others guards from high points or with blade.
You need to hide corps.
You need to check often if Lily get detected.
You need to kill 1 or more guards without yellow detection (you can just use q or rewind to check if you got detected).
You need to use high points often (there is a point where there is a "secret" path that you can take... and there are many high platform that you can use).
You have to be fast (if you are fast it's easier to move).

I'm sure that once you know how to play this demo you too will make many 1110 points, it's just really easy (it's more difficult to make 1100 points if you try).

omega64: I'll be disappointed if a kill run actually counts, ah well.
only because you have made only a 1100 points run (you had a lot of time to do them both, as the majority of us)...

1100 is easy, you can turn back time after all. :P
The main thing that made it hard is that my hand started to hurt from holding the crouch and flow time buttons.

I didn't so so because the contest stated don't raise your blade against them.
They should've clarified if this didn't mean you're not allowed to kill.

Well, technically speaking the contest post also said "don't raise suspicions" (i.e. cautious guards), so if you did a 1100 run, you did not fulfill the contest conditions anyway, since there was no way to complete the level without killing anyone and raising any suspicions at the same time. It's one or the other.

Which brings us back to my original point, I'd be disappointed due to GOG not communicating properly.
Once this confusion arose someone should've stepped in.

I only tried once, but...it was not my first stealth game :)
I just tried to avoid guirds, thinking killing them would decrease your score.
Also I just "tried" for the purpose of trying, I didn't bother to perfect my play because I already knew there would be people much better than me :P

I managed to kill those 3 guards without bombs and undetected XD

Well, technically speaking it's easy to kill all guards without "raising blade against the guards" - only with traps and "fall-jump" kills. No blade, Super Mario way. So 1110 anyway closer to conditions.

And it's not GOG team communications problem. Conditions written by Frozenbyte.

well it's possible... but if you want to make a fast run use bombs it's faster

Believe me, that was surprisingly fast too lol.

with a strike?

LiefLayer: with a strike?
What do you mean? That term is a bit generic..
Anyway, do you want me to tell you or do you want to try?
It's a bit absurd, but nothing complex and it worked lol.
