The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.

GothaBlutauge: Raising caution won't affect your score, doesn't it?

I also had a 1100 run with no kills and 60 cautious guards. Somebody here didn't get the caution of so many, still has 1100.

Awesome game and awesome promotion, btw. :3 Little girl rarely messes things up (which is uncommon for steath companions) and only the rope physics look funny sometimes.

Is it normal that moving time with shift will also bring you out of stealth mode?
The cautious guards don't seem to affect the scoring, apart from stopping you getting the 500 points for "Never detected".

It seems to be scored like this:

15 points for each guard you kill
25 points for each guard you leave alive
500 points for "Never detected"
500 points for "Didn't kill anyone"
250 points for "Killed everyone"

It's possible to bind a key to toggle time. If you use toggle time then you can pass time in stealth mode.
My second attempt, much better. Went with "kill everyone".

All those years of taffing around finally paid off :)

Oh yeah, I made it!
All killed or all alive (a pity for the bug).
Too bad that there's no time counter, as I semi-speedrun the level.

Bonus:
2 previous screens of me still believing that boxes and head bumps weren't lethal.
I did some nice combos there, though :P

Woohoo!!! Finally, I made it to 1110! =)

On my previous attempt I got 1 cautious guard. I was going to call it a night, and try again tomorrow, but I decided to give it one last go. And...I got it. Now I can sleep XD

Well, the demo sure did give my 970 a workout...smelled like burning, actually. Had it turned allllll the way up in the settings, and the damn thing's going off like a jet engine. Looked at the temp clocker...68 degrees C! Kudos to the team working on this, it's a real marvel.

Thanks for nearly setting my card on fire, and I mean that as an actual compliment. Seriously.
So killing guards give you points? Why? I tried to avoid as many guards as I could, but if killing them rewards you...dunno, maybe MGSV teached me bad.

it give you more points for not killing a guard (15 points if you kill, 25 if you don't kill).
But in this demo you cannot complete the game undetected and without kill, so you get more points to kill everybody and be undetected.
in the final game they will fix this, so you will get more points with a pacifist path.
Well, it was pretty fun.
Too bad the no kill no detection run is impossible on this demo though.

My 1110 / 1100 set. Was not sure which result to upload, so I did both.

I had a very enjoyable time with this demo. I hope to see it and these characters become something much more in the main game.

I gave up on it, since the mechanics of guiding the little girl seemed to be so clunky and imprecise. Do you have to stay close to her in order to give her commands? I tried guiding her from the other side of the court and she either wouldn't move at all or run in circles as if stuck somewhere, and when I finally got her somewhere, she suddenly ran all the way back instead of forward. Although, to tell the truth, I couldn't even say if my commands did anything at all or if she was moving of her own accord most of the time. Sometimes it worked, most times it didn't. How much of an own mind does she have anyway? Can you guide her into being caught or does she only run when the road is absolutely clear?

I'm also missing more obvious and practical tactics. Why set off a complicated, fat mechanical rat (the supply of which is strictly limited, and the appearance of which raises serious suspicion) from the place where you're hiding when you could just throw a stone in the opposite corner of the court to draw away attention from your hiding place, without leaving any clear evidence of your presence ...

Does anyone know why my keybinds are not saved between sessions?

You can actually command her from afar, just not too much.
She won't move, however, if she feels in danger.
I agree that her AI is a bit annoying as she tends to run in front of the guards and get caugth.
Afterwards, she usually moves back\forward to a nearby hideout (even against your command).
I don't like the mechanical thing very much and I would have used a simple rock too..

Neither are mine.
It's another bug of the demo.

Fiiiinally got it. :3

Doesn't it save the all-time score if you close the game? Or this is only a problem for me?
