The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.

Nirth: People still use 32-bit? Wow.. feels like the 90s.

Awesome that this demo is here, that means it will be available here! I'm going to try the demo right away.

amrit9037: Most of games and software are 32-bit.
Even 64-bit os use 32-bit emulation.

If you look closely it doesn't feels like 90's anymore.
My 32-Bit system runs better than 64-bit system.
For those of with more than 4GB of memory, 64-bit is the only way to go. Also many benchmarks show that 64-bit is faster than 32-bit on most tests. Some Linux distros are even considering dropping 32-bit ISOs.

Is it really a 64 bit demo? The reqs suggest it's optional...

"Highest graphics detail levels are only available in 64 bit OS"
low rated

We have a winner!!!

amrit9037: 64-Bit demo!!!
No Thanks.
Why did you low-rate him people? Haven't you thought that many people (especially from the 3rd world) don't have the money to get something with 3.5, ghz, shader model 5 and 16gbs of Ram? Heck I got a pc with 4 gbs of Ram precisely only a few months ago, and because of the many developers that have ramped up system requirements I feel as if it's obsolete already...

avatar
amrit9037: You are not alone
Thanks. At least we people with low-specced rigs can still play retro games and low-requirement indies I guess...

jalister: Some Linux distros are even considering dropping 32-bit ISOs.
And they think badly. I personally onyl give 2gbs of ram to the linux distros I emulate through vmware player because I can't afford giving all the ram, as the host gotta work too. In my mind, those that require high requirements are simply incosiderate...

And something I forgot to add before ; I highly appreciate the gesture of offering a demo from the developers, but I won't be getting, as it's likely it won't run on my pc. There are way too many games released recently that seem to have requirements like that and which I have to forsake even though many look really cool...
Question since I got this error. I can still just ignore it and play the game but is everything, including the rain supposed to be standing still if I am not moving?

It says time stops when you stand still, so I would say yes.
wicked!

Just net-installed debian 8.3 and testing bloody nvidia optimus.. We'll see how it works : )
Looks pretty cool, but I don't meet the minimum system requirements either.

*sigh*

Welcome to the club of people who insist on being pc gamers, all the while having pcs that are turned obsolete by the ramped up system requirements for newest games.

Maybe I should seriously consider to clean up some space in my house and get a PS3 or something (I only have a wii atm)

I disagree. More and more games and I'm assuming professionals take advantage of 64-bit, it's time we move forward. Backwards compatibility is always great through, it's a pity you can't play/use 16-bit software with 64-bit OS.

Anyway, the game has a 32-bit exe.

I have barely tried the game, I'm having a bindable/hotkey crisis situation that is turned me on the edge of uninstalling the demo and waiting for the real deal but other than that it looks like a fun stealth game. You have a hook you can use that is similar to Garret's rope arrow but you can use it all the time with no penalty which make it rather easy.

The rewindable time thing is kind of cool but I need to play around with it more to really get the mechanics.

What bothers me most though is that the premise of the game is that every missions is an escort mission. Now that may sound worse than it is because I think with such a premise the developers will make sure the A.I for this escort in question is not dreadful, you can actually give that person a command to run to a safe place, there seem to be several hiding places to send her to.

Problem is that if you move out of sight or a certain a mount of range, the person will start running on its own and that I think will mess up a lot.

Neat idea.

Time to check if my powerful intel hd graphics can cope with it. ;)

E: On a side note: a demo, that's a rare sight nowadays.

Look at this way, the requirements for PC games are sometimes wrong/misleading at least for me by having this be a demo, you can try it for free of charge and see if the game works good enough or not for you. I have integrated graphics and I can't usually tell if a game works well or not till i try unless it is something like Witcher 3 which is way beyond what my pc can do.

I myself hope for more demos cause otherwise if I'm unsure game would work or not I would have to buy it on Steam rather than gog since Steam has a more lenient refund policy. (But i generally prefer DRM free in most cases)

Huh? Depends on the amount of RAM you have I guess. I haven't used a 32 bit os except for embedded for some time now.

Eek,i hate escort missions, Well, at least the demo is free to try out. :)
It's good to see that Trine 3 didn't break Frozenbyte's backs, that would be a shame (I found it to be quite enjoyable, just that there were lots of negative reviews back at launch). I didn't play many of stealth games yet, but I'll be sure to check this one out.
