The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.

MajorLunaC: I get this crash on Linux, Intel i5 Integrated Graphics:

Running Shadwen (demo)
nohup: redirecting stderr to stdout

Note that I can run The Witcher 2, although unplayably slow. At the very least this shouldn't crash.
Same error for me too, using Debian Jessie with GeForce 9600 GT and Core 2 Duo E8500 CPU and 3,9 GiB of RAM.

Pity that it does not work for me, but I really like this blast from the past idea. More demos please.

LiefLayer: I manage to get a never detected (killing some guards). but the points are lower than when you don't kill anybody.

never detected:

don't kill anyone:
http://i.imgur.com/9VkWli2.jpg

now I only have to do a killled everyone run.

Also it seem that the "All-time" points are reset when you exit the game... I really hope the high points are counted only on one playthrough.

I think it's possible to make a never detected-killed everyone run (you just have to kill guards before they can spot you... since on this run I got never detected killing some guards... and maybe 1100 is not cap (I got 950 with never detected, maybe with points from killed everyone you can get an higher score).
The first area is also possible without detection... every guards just move according to your movements... so I think it's possible to also get a never detected-don't kill anyone, but you need a lots of time (that's why I give up on this... since I cannot save the game for now I can only do what I can with the time I have).

Anyway I suggest to try the never detected run it's a lot of fun (and you have to make it with only few bombs that you have to use only when it's really necessary)...
How did you do that?

I tried a not-detected kill all. But it still says I was detected. :/ What exactly counts as detected? I suppose rewinding time will still make the game count you being detected.

I think detected (called "cautious guard" by the game) is when people get yellow outline. Rewinding time only resets alarm (when people have red outline) or death, but not cautious. I almost managed not-detected first courtyard, but then the kid had to spoil it by not paying attention to my orders and insisting on running to "better" cover. And I have no idea how to trick the last two guards before door without causing some disturbance - one of them just stares at the stairs the kid has to walk and never moves by himself.

No, you just need guards to not become yellow (if a guards detect the girl that follow you it count for detection). rewinding time after detection is ok to get a not-detected run.

I got that with lots of rewind so I'm sure

To kill 2 guards without been detected I just use a bomb.

if kid girl move just rewind before the girl can move and choose another path

Thanks! That's quite a challenge actually!

I attempted kill all-never-get-detected challenge. I failed at not being detected. For some reason I got detected 2x. I have nooooooooooo clue where though.

And this time 5! I would love to actually KNOW where I got detected though because I did not see a single guard light up.

That is happening to me as well, I managed to take every guard down while getting only one of them cautious!
I would bet that it was the little girl's fault though... Damned free will! Why does she have to move of her own will, why!

I also got 1 cautious guard this time.... I wonder which one it is. :P Frustratingly the game won't tell you. I now kill all the guards before removing the guard that blocks her from moving further so she won't alert anyone.

I'm still unsure of what counts as "detected"... I was pretty sure nobody noticed either me or the little one, but it seems it was not so. How can I understand when I'm detected? Can I even do it without killing?
I DID IT. I AM THE NUMBER ONE FOR NOW!! :D

Senteria: Question since I got this error. I can still just ignore it and play the game but is everything, including the rain supposed to be standing still if I am not moving?
Uh.. I have the same problem O_o

That's not a "problem", it's actually a game mechanic. When you are not moving, time stands still.

If you got that error, ignore the unhandled exception error message and just click on shadwen.
if you press q the game time will not stop
