The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
I just keep dying :). It feels clunky. It's certainly not Dishonored.
I manage to get a never detected (killing some guards). but the points are lower than when you don't kill anybody.

never detected:

don't kill anyone:

now I only have to do a killled everyone run.

Also it seem that the "All-time" points are reset when you exit the game... I really hope the high points are counted only on one playthrough.

I think it's possible to make a never detected-killed everyone run (you just have to kill guards before they can spot you... since on this run I got never detected killing some guards... and maybe 1100 is not cap (I got 950 with never detected, maybe with points from killed everyone you can get an higher score).
The first area is also possible without detection... every guards just move according to your movements... so I think it's possible to also get a never detected-don't kill anyone, but you need a lots of time (that's why I give up on this... since I cannot save the game for now I can only do what I can with the time I have).

Anyway I suggest to try the never detected run it's a lot of fun (and you have to make it with only few bombs that you have to use only when it's really necessary)...

phaolo: So, could it work with a i5 6600k integrated graphic card?
avatar
omega64: Try it, the demo is free after all.
Eh, I usually avoid installing programs for nothing.
If noone knows, however, I could give it a try.
I read that Intel HD 530 > required minimum Intel HD 4000.

Nirth: One thing that you don't like it but to call it unplayable? I don't think it would have been implemented then. It's also a new feature, I've never seen it so obviously we need to get used to it like every other new feature that may seem annoying at first. I prefer normal play but it adds something very special when you run after a guard then stop and then press one button at a time as if you are playing in slow motion. Might take a bit of practice but I thought it was very neat.
I call it as I see it. To me it was unplayable. It would have been bad enough if it was done well, but as sson as I jumped and froze mid-air, I knew this is unplayable for me. The hell is that? I'm jumping, but not moving? How does that make sense? And then I crouched, remained motionless, and time kept flowing. Because being in a crouched position counts as moving, apparently. I could never learn to play it like that, with such counter intuitive elements.

I tried to deactivate my nvidia 650m. so with my integrated card (that is a intel hd 4000), with very high the game has some lag, on medium same lag, on very low it runs without any lag.
I think with a HD 5300 you can play it on medium without lag.

Thank you for the test!
Btw, it's really called 530 instead of 5300 O_o

ah ok LOL... but there is a HD 5300 so you can't blame me XD.
Anyway I think you can play it.
I just wait to see the winners and their scores. :P
Cool contest, thanks GOG!

Edit: Update with new score.

Very nice game. Needs some polish, but I suspect it will be fixed when released.

Is it possible to obtain more than 1100 pints? Apparently, cautious gaurds do not count towards the total.
I guess as little as them as possible will earn a baetter place in the GOG contest, right?

Anyway, I liked the demo -though I could suggest some corrections here and there, such as a better grapple hook reponse wen reaching platforms and a "toggle" for time), and I will certainly get the game (hopefully, by winning it)!

Maybe killing all guards and not being detected by them?

Interessting idea. GOG says "do not kill", though, so I'll refrain to massacre those grunts.

Who had this horrible idea of giving this child AI that makes it go to enemies and doesn't stay in place when I tell it to?

True, but it might get you more points. I didn't say you would win the contest. :P
Another 1100 score. Game is fun. I tried to do never detected at the same time, but there were places you can't seem to get past without rousing the guards to move them out of the way. I wonder how other people managed to do it. Even killing everyone I had guards that got suspicious.

Enebias: ... and a "toggle" for time
I saw in the keybinds there's an option to toggle time. Didn't use it myself, though. I imagine you could have it work like a real-time-with-pause game like that which would probably feel less janky than it is now (I kept thinking the game was hitching whenever I stopped moving).
