The free <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span>, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span> and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head <span class="bold">here</span> for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span> and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at <span class="bold">twitter/GOGcom</span> with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
Edit: Disregard this post :) I got a higher score (1110) and posted a little further on.

looks like a beautiful game, thanks for letting us try it out
Pretty neat marketing trick.

I had seen a video of this some time ago, it didn't seem that much of a thing but I guess I'll try the demo at least.

Good luck to them in any case.
I hope this does well because that will mean it was fucking genius.

I didn't get Trine 3 at christmas because I knew I wasn't gonna play it anytime soon. But I did like the developer. Now I like them even more.

I love the artistry and character and polish the Trine games have. I will definitely check this game out.

CharlesGrey: GOG offers a wide range of old games, and Indie games with low requirements, so it's not like there isn't already a huge selection of titles available for low to mid-range PCs. Modern games with high requirements are still the exception here, so it's kind of bizarre you're complaining about them.

0Grapher: I see the somewhat worrisome trend that games with simplistic (often 2D) graphics require unrealistically powerful hardware and they still run badly.
That's true, but a different problem altogether. It's either because of the Engine/SDK used, or because of plain bad coding. In this particular case, we have a game which clearly requires decent hardware ( and for this kind of visual quality, the requirements seem reasonably low ) and yet people were complaining because they couldn't run it on their toaster, which they only bought 10 years ago. :P

Concerning 2D games and good optimization: The upcoming Stardew Valley seems to have very low requirements, at least by today's standards. The Shadowrun games, Banner Saga and ( I think ) UnderRail should also work well on weaker computers.

Tarhiel: Well played, GOG, I have already installed it, will try to play it through when I will have a bit more time ;), otherwise I am really glad Shadwen is coming to GOG.

(I haven´t played Trine 3, but some people were complaining that it´s quite short compared to the other parts of the series. I am just wondering whether developers didn´t have to cut out some content because of the money restraints.)

Be it as it may, hopefully Shadwen will win people´s hearts - by sneaking behind them.
(My inner Garret is quietly leaping from joy) :D
I heard the same about trine 3, but some time ago I bought it (I was waiting for the mac version).
it is a little shorter than trine 2, it has less level than trine 1... but the level are longer.
Trine 3 is not perfect:
the story is not completed, there are less abilities and you have to collect some points not to level up but to unlock levels, the camera cannot move so sometimes it's difficult to move like you want to move....
but it's not bad like somebody said... it's actually really good.

3D is actually a really good innovation, they made a great job.
puzzles are really one step forward.
they manage to make a 3D trine without change the core of the series.
and the "bad" is not that bad:
the story was always an excuse to solve puzzles.
collect points to unlock leves is not that difficult (you can unlock lots of level with a really low score).
camera is not that bad, it's just not perfect.

I think you would like to give trine 3 a try (when gog putl it on sale).

Flaose: Along with earlier mentioned techniques, you can kill a Knight guard by doing an air attack. I didn't even realize you could box or trap them in earlier playthroughs.
Wow I really want to try this one.

avatar
Aosys: Is it actually possible to perfect ghost this? I get the girl almost to the end flawlessly, except the one guard refuses to turn (I think I saw him do it once, for all of about 3 seconds), making it impossible for her to get past :\
yes, just see
http://shadwen.com/

there are 6 guy that have done that... difficult but not impossible.

I see nobody killed everyone :) maybe that's the way to get above the 1100 points cap :D
Tried it but not my cup of tea but thank you for the demo wish more games developers did that. Also good luck with the game i hope it will sell well when you release it.
This game looks set to be majestically neat! A female assassin's creed, but not tied to Ubisoft's Uplay's DRM systems!

KaiFB: You can rewind time with R and screenshot your stabs again :)
Ah, I didn't think of that! Good trick.

I assume you have already got the feedback regarding non-optimal animations but I'll add it anyway: that's the thing that I see that needs extra work.

I also noticed a bug when some guards get stuck in a weird walk, they walk extra slow and the animation makes it look like they are having some kind of fit.

Oh, and I forgot. Is there any way to kill guards with shields on their back without inventory traps? I was thinking if there was something in the environment you could advantage of. I was hoping to pull a large crate with the grappling hook so it would land on a guard's head but it didn't work.

Breja: The "time only moves when you move" thing is just terrible. Downright unplayable.
One thing that you don't like it but to call it unplayable? I don't think it would have been implemented then. It's also a new feature, I've never seen it so obviously we need to get used to it like every other new feature that may seem annoying at first. I prefer normal play but it adds something very special when you run after a guard then stop and then press one button at a time as if you are playing in slow motion. Might take a bit of practice but I thought it was very neat.

When sneaking up behind a guard you have to aim for the head. Only then will she go for the kill. Unless it's a knight, then jumping at him from above works. :)
Schweet! Been waiting for someone to take up the Thief franchise guantlet. Will have to try the demo out tonight. Good catch GOG!

Ah. okay. Thanks.
So, could it work with a i5 6600k integrated graphic card?

Try it, the demo is free after all.
