The free <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span>, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span> and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head <span class="bold">here</span> for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the <span class="bold">Shadwen Demo</span> and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at <span class="bold">twitter/GOGcom</span> with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
A DEMO ON GOG???

Finally!!! :)

This must be THE rule for new games,..
I don't like to buy games based on teaser trailers or videocaps by youtubers.. I like to try them by myself before to buy a game, like in the old days.
I think the child is really dumb. Hope there's a mod to delete her. Escort missions in any form are dumb, children are dumb. full stop.

I had fun though, I really did. I thought the time mechanic was novel. I found the guards to actually feel dangerous.

Somewhere near the end I made a noise, and one guard bumped into the other guard thus knocking said guard from a high place and he dropped dead on the floor. Then another guard below walked around, saw the dead body and rang the alarm. I was like: Are you f'ing kidding me. <.<

Well, I think teh whole level design would need to change without the escort aspect. You can easily get to the end of the demo, the challenge is making it so the child can get past the guards.

marcusmaximus: Yeah, i don't mind if something like Witcher 3 doesn't' work but it annoys me when 2d or isometric games that look like they came from 1999 but just with higher resolutions don't work well.

0Grapher: Exactly and it's even more ridiculous if the game is in pseudo-16 bit. ;)
Lol, that hasn't happened to me and I have played some pseudo 8 and 16bit games. that would piss me off. lol

Ok... uhm... I'm not sure how to say this... Maybe I'll start with admitting that my score was 420, so yeah, I suck. Maybe that's why but... I don't like it. I don't like the game. At all. I feel bad for saying this, since the devs give us a demo, and a contest but yeah, there's no going around this.

It's an escort mission. I hate escort missions. A whole game of escort missions? Just put Beyonce on the soundtrack and you'll have s prefect simulation of hell. Is there anyone who likes escort missions? You do your best, and you keep getting fucked by a dumb AI. And this is one dumb AI. She seems to be stuck to following the same path regardless of how much, or how little, sense it makes. And she just keeps walking out of cover at worst times. I can't have any fun with stealth, if I have to worry about the damn kid, and stick a to specific path.

The "time only moves when you move" thing is just terrible. Downright unplayable. I know it can be turned off (thank heavens) but it keeps turning on every time I rewind time, which is super annoying. I don't know why it's even there, I can't imagine anyone playing that way. The time rewind itself is usefull, but either include quicksaves too, or add some "fast rewind". Trying something that fails (due to the AI of course) and having to rewind a long time can be a pain.

If it wasn't for the kid, I'd say I might give the game a chance, maybe once it's on sale. As is, I will not be picking this one up, it's just not fun. Sorry.
My first play. It has intresting mechanichs and a lot off different ways to pull things off. Had 2 intresting bugs on my play well one defenetly atleast and both right at the end off it. First was 1 guard got stuck and wouldn't return back to his post, the other intresting one was, when I was hiding in a bush the guard came and moved me from the bush, got alerted and insta killed me :S. But overall nice demo worth playing.

I think you've only played the wrong type of escort missions. You know what I'm sayin'? ;)
My first no kill run.
1100 points, not bad, really.

I'd say the demo needs a tutorial.

It dropped me straight into a mission with no explanation of how the controls worked, what the gadgets did, or how to set the traps properly so they line up to where you want them to aim.

It's an interesting concept, especially since I'm not a graphics nut, kinda reminded me a bit of Tomb Raider meets a classic Thief game with pretty backgrounds and poor character models.

Turning the settings all the way up (I have a 3.5GHz i7 and a GTX 980 so there hasn't been a game yet I can't play on ultra) didn't change the look much from defaults.

Still, when my favorite games are Sword of the Stars: The Pit and ToME it's a given that not being Witcher 3/Mad Max/Assassin's Creed IV/Dragon Age: Inquisition pretty is just fine by me.
I can only say I really like it. it's a really good stealth game (you can actually get a no detection... only 5 people get it on site if you take a look), it's challenging but it's not impossible (but you can improve what you want).
It run really well on my system (macbook pro retina 15'' 2012 650M).

There are only few things I don't really understand... how to kill a "Knight guard"... and if there is a way to move a body if you kill a guard.

Anyway have a whole level in a demo is really the best thing they can do.... Now I am absolutely certain that I will buy the game (perhaps even the day it come out, which I never do).

I've been able to move bodies by using x or square on a controller to pick up and put down bodies. You drag them where you want them and then put them down.
No-kill playthrough done, 53x detected, 0x alarmed, final score 1100. Seems like 1100 is score cap. No idea how to take screenshot though, everytime I try it just get screenshot of desktop, and the game doesn't have it's own screenshot function. I guess I'll just have to buy the game normally.

Edit: another playthrough, this time down to 33 cautions, and managed to get a screenshot (50% resized). I still think it is terrible oversight that the game doesn't have built-in screenshot capability.

I'm not usually a fan of stealth games and I suck badly at them as a rule. But I kinda liked this one. Nice mechanics, neat toys and decent controls once i figured them out.

I didn't have the patience for a no kill run on my first try, so only 510 score for me. :D
