The free Shadwen Demo, where you can try out your silent killing techniques in a bleak medieval environment, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com.

Time stands still, as Shadwen lurks behind a dark corner, wishing that the little girl cowering beside her didn't have to witness the brutal scene that is about to unfold. But maybe she won't. Perhaps there is another way to get past these guards, climb on that scaffold and continue on her mission to assassinate the king. Before you take any action time stands still, allowing you to change plans on the spot and even rewind failed attempts. Killing might not be necessary, as long as Shadwen manages to stay hidden.

In anticipation of the stealth-action game, where you move freely among the shadows of a gritty medieval setting, developers Frozenbyte are releasing the Shadwen Demo and GOG.com is jumping in on the action! You will have the opportunity to sample Shadwen's light-footed scaling and stealth-assassination mechanics in a fully-playable area of the game and win awesome prizes in the process. The demo will be available on our store between February 24th and February 29th but, once added, you will be able to access it from your GOG.com library forever. All individual scores of those playing the demo will contribute to a global community score; the higher the global tally, the lower Shadwen's launch price will be. Head here for more details.

GOG.com CONTEST
We decided to do something extra for all the GOGers out there who want to try the free demo, so we are launching our own parallel contest where you must lunge #fromtheshadows for a chance to win awesome Shadwen swag!

The basics:
—Grab the Shadwen Demo and reach the end of the level without raising alarms, suspicions, or your blade against the guards. Staying hidden earns you more points.
—Screenshot the stat screen: Complete the demo level scoring as many points as you can, then post the image(s) below or tweet them at twitter/GOGcom with the "#fromtheshadows @GOGcom" tags.
—Grab sweet swag: The 10 highest-scoring assassins will get a Shadwen t-shirt and a free copy of Shadwen, courtesy of Frozenbyte. In case more than 10 entries are tied for the top spots, their submissions will enter a raffle.

So put on your soft leather gloves, don your darkness-colored robes, and exercise your rope-throwing: unsung glory and awesome prizes await!
The event will last until February 29th. Winners will be announced in the forums soon afterwards.

Contest Winners Announced!
The winners are in!

Due to an in-game bug making it impossible to do an undetected + no kill run worth 1600 points, there was a bit of confusion about eligible entries. To make things fair, we considered both the never-detected runs (1100 points) and kill-everyone runs (1110 points) to be eligible for the grand prizes — but with no more than one entry per person.

Since there were more than 10 eligible entries, we ran a raffle powered by the random number generator at random.org

And the winners are:
RabidGears
Goatbrush
w0lf1k
LiefLayer
Sablelune
Aningan
Aceso
Pixelion
GothaBlutauge
@Asaldar_

Thanks for playing Shadwen on GOG! We'll be reaching out to the winners individually to get your T-Shirt sizes and addresses. In the meantime... stay hidden, friends.
Getting a 403 error when I try downloading it. Is the demo file not available yet?

GOG Downloader seems to be downloading it fine (in my case), that error might be due to high traffic?

Nice contest!

VERY interesting.

Will have to try this... time to go look at some screenshots (I just saw this here in the forum, hadn't noticed it on the front page yet).

*EDIT* And just saw the contest! Do I just hit "PRTSCR" to copy the scoresheet?

And thank you so much for not tying the contest to Galaxy / Twitter! Being able to post the screen here is much appreciated!

hi, i have a simple question about the requirements for the demo, i am a bit confused

it says a intel quad core in Minimum system requirements
i thought quad core is higher then 1.8 GHz CPU dual-core or dual-core 2.6 GHz
which is mentioned in the recommended.

Its not that bad cause its a 3d and i cant play 3d, but i just wonderd.

Minimum system requirements - Windows: Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: Intel quad-core 2.0 GHz or AMD 2.0 GHz dual-core
Memory: 4 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce 260 / Radeon HD 4000 Series / Intel HD Graphics 4000
DirectX Version: 10
Disk Space: 4 GB
Additional Notes: Highest graphics detail levels are only available in 64 bit OS.

Recommended system requirements - Windows: Vista / 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: Intel Core i3/i5/i7 1.8 GHz CPU dual-core or dual-core 2.6 GHz
Memory: 8 GB
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 2GB / Radeon HD 6850 2GB
DirectX Version: 10
Disk Space: 4 GB
Additional Notes: Highest graphics detail levels are only available in 64 bit OS.
What will happen in case someone adds the demo to his account and downloads it, but then when he tries to run it on his pc either it doesn't run or it lags at a point when it's unplayable? Will that affect the general score etc? And, more importantly, will said player be able to get rid of that unplayable thing from his account by contacting support?
So many risks, just because developers think everyone has like at least 5 Gbs of Ram or something...

edit-sigh, well at least everybody who has a pc better than mine, will at least be able to experience said game...I'm so jealous...

Downloads seem to work just fine with both Galaxy and browser, try refreshing your account.
Though 403 is usually a problem with conflicting IP addresses, so a downloader might be better.

64-Bit demo!!!
No Thanks.

A game with an actual demo!? And the demo is released before the game is released!? It's nice to see a developer doing things better than the big publishers. I like Frozenbyte, so I will be giving this demo a spin.

I just noticed it's on Linux too, another plus.

So for 10 million community points, the price drops $1? How many points does a usual playthrough of the demo yield?

People still use 32-bit? Wow.. feels like the 90s.

Awesome that this demo is here, that means it will be available here! I'm going to try the demo right away.

You are not alone
Stealth games are my favorites...yet somehow I'd never heard of this until seeing the demo available here.

Fully expected it to be like Mark of the Ninja, or maybe Marvellous Miss Take (both of which are great, not knocking them). Then I look at the screenshots on the game page...holy crap was not expecting that!

Now I just hope it plays as nice as it looks. :)

Most of games and software are 32-bit.
Even 64-bit os use 32-bit emulation.

If you look closely it doesn't feels like 90's anymore.
My 32-Bit system runs better than 64-bit system.
Great my game crashes on launch. :(
