Not at the moment, they're still in beta.
But you're welcome to ask for the feature here:

I don't use Galaxy but really hope they don't, ever!

Big picture messes up traditional Steam UI and offer zero improvement. I use a wireless mouse to do whatever I need much faster than big picture, including typing messages.

Spending hours to get rid of the freaking clunky and slow Big Picture mode when using controller, only to have a Steam update and start all over again, is not fun.
I have no idea what big picture mode is and why I would need it to play games on my TV.

I do that all the time and I don't even have Steam.

that's more asking for an easy "off" toggle switch for big picture mode than a reason to scrap it.
some people would find it really useful. it should be easy to turn on/off as you see fit, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be implemented though.

Seconded. I seriously don't understand this topic at all. It is perfectly possible to play PC games on a TV without any need for clients or online active services.
That's what consoles are for
If you want a controller/TV friendly interface to browse/start non-Steam games:
- Try Launchbox/Bigbox
- Add your GOG games to the Steam client

It has on/off option but infortunatelly not always works. On some updates it brings Big Picture when I plug the controller, while in others only borks the overlay and fps counter. Sometimes is working ok.
I had to stop using the Steam overlay to message friends and start to use alt+tab (wich is slow) to get on Windows desktop to type.

I do like to control my games with controller, like Retroarch or RetroPie but if GOG develops a controller UI, lets hope is not like Steam Big Picture...

Oh, and BTW, I really like the new Steam UI, even if seems I'm the only one.

yeah. i meant an on/off that works properly. like a big setting switch with a whole load of settings below it.
ALL big pic functionality on/off - off means just work like it used to before.
if on then fiddle with all the overlays, and should having a connected controller automatically switch BP mode on etc etc etc.
adding new features is cool, but for something like this there should be a "nah thanks, just leave it working the old way for me" checkbox.
i don't mind the new steam ui. i don't use steam very much anymore (in fact until a couple of months ago i hadn't used it for about 2 years) but all i really care about it is launching my games so as long as i get to do that in an efficient manner: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Same here, it changes to this bigpicture mode when I turn on my controller.
So better to put this feature at the bottom of the todo list.
Thanks for all of the responses everyone. I really appreciate them and I can understand most points. I just thought it would be fun to play some games that are more traditionally played on console that I own on PC due to well the better quality capabilities of the PC. I have an LG B9 2019 OLED that has GSYNC after updating it and would like to play some of my single player RPGs that way I don't have to sit at a desk for long play sessions and instead use my recliner or couch.
I like the idea too, mostly for arcade and split screengames, I think that play in a PC screen that is uncomfortable.

Why not just hook up your PC to the TV? You could do it via HDMI hook up, or if you have the right TV it has a direct PC monitor hook up on it that can make it be used as a monitor for your PC.

Add me to those confused by the question.

Not sure why you need anything special to play PC games on TV. I've done it all the time, no special stuff needed.

FYI, Launchbox detect GOG games directly, without the need to add to Steam client.
