I had a old copy of Pirates of the Caribbean done by Akella but does not work anymore due to OS. (Thanks Microsoft)

Ive heard it was meant to be the sequal to Sea Dogs but had a name change, so Sea Dogs looks to be the next best thing. But I want to know if its going to be similar to POTC. (With nothing cut out) So a upgrade of POTC is what im after.

Lots of choice of ships/cannons/munitions/skills/perk to choose from along with trade goods.
Make fleets etc etc. Everything POTC was.

Cheers!

i had AN old copy. and don't thank microsoft - they thank you for your money. SEQUEL not sequal. lots of choiceS! perkS!
(choice of is another way to say it, otherwise the corrections look correct to me.)

ON topic: There are ways to make PotC work and it has some absolutely fabulous mods that makes it a much better choice of game than Sea Dogs, in my humble opinion. On the other hand, there are other games with adventures on the high seas, not to forget space pirate games, that are a good play as well.

I can dig out my PotC disc in a bit and try it on Windows 7. Ten is not available to me here so cannot do.

man i have question about this potc - i played that game with Blaze Shark and he had a sister right? that's the game i'm talking about. problem was that equipment upgrades end after level 10 or so, although you can achieve much higher level. and the random crash is another problem, then the fact that you must become pirate and conquer all the islands. and the annoying ships which appear randomly and chase me. even if i dock in a harbor they're still waiting for me outside - i can't get rid of them unless i do battle. what fabulous mods are you talking about man? how they help me?

I kind of drifted away from the game before I really got anywhere in it and that was several years ago.

This mod is the mod I had installed then: http://www.moddb.com/mods/new-horizons

This should be the game to buy instead of Pirates of the Carribean: https://www.gog.com/game/sea_dogs_city_of_abandoned_ships

Why are you thanking Microsoft? Things change with new OS'es, you might as well accept it and stop blaming people. I have many games that don't launch anymore, but you don't see me pointing fingers. It's just something that happens.
Please keep on Topic and stop correcting my spelling. Its rather petty.

As for Microsoft, it is my opinion. Do with it what you will.

Anyway, POTC. Ive googled multiple fixes but no success. I'd love to try the mods but alas.

Sorry about your troubles. A year+ back (perhaps more like 2 years) I messaged Akella asking about the possibility of them re-releasing POTC on GOG as a Sea Dogs game (gutting all POTC references to avoid legal problems, if possible). The person I talked to said they'd look into it, but nothing after that.

This was one of the first games I played on my own computer when I got it in 2004, the other two being Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness and Doom 3. Good memories.

I was always hoping they'd do a remake, but yeah legally, it would be quite tricky.

Same, I remember it was POTC and CSI I think.
Downloading the 2-part mod now. It is at 2.7GB so it takes a while (moddb bandwidth constrained I guess). A bit of searching on the internet informed me that the easiest way to get it running on post-XP Windows is installing the New Horizons mod but I will soon see :-) arrrrh!

Game version I have: 2 cd discs for Windows pc -- English version. There was never any patches so v1.0

Actually, that's mostly Akella's fault due to them making a game based on a fairly shitty in-house Storm Engine, which is barely working at the best of days.

Hmm thinking about it, when ever I Alt+Tab'ed out of the game and tried to Alt+Tab back in it would always crash...
Fair Play
What does this mean. or, what am I supposed to do?

From the mod's how to:
"KNOWN GAME ISSUES AND SOLUTIONS:
...
- Using ffdshow:
Add the game to your "exception list""

I am at a loss as to what to do here??
EDIT: Seems I do not have this installed so not a problem for me.

Well, the game starts just fine unmodded after installing it OUTSIDE the program files folder and tweaking things using the game's config.exe in the game's folder. I just replaced "Program Files (x86)" with my newly created folder "POTC". Then limited frames/s to max 60fps.

This link has a lot of useful stuff: http://www.piratesahoy.net/wiki/new-horizons-faq/

Maybe I should add that I have all optional Windows updates installed as well. THAT made a diffference in another game at least once I know of personally.

I really seem to have found all information one would need to get the game to run on any Windows XP --> Windows 10 pc.

Oh yeah, don't ever install games under Program Files folder. It's super restrictive like that. I thought everyone knew that.
