real.geizterfahr: I wanted to make a stupid vampire comment, but then I remembered Kleiner Feigling... Is this really how they're called in English? Or did you just make this up?
Little coward... *lol*
The correct translation would be "Little Figling". Little coward... *lol*
Fig = die Feige
"Feige" means "fig" as well as "cowardly"
The wordplay gets lost in translation.

To chime in into the "Is it worth it?"-like discussion:
I bought six piñatas (already owned 12 of the 25 possible games, so it wasn't that much of a gamble), got one game I'll definitely never install (Shelter - it went straight to the hidden games), one game that was on sale for 99 cents already (Euro, no idea what the Dollar price was - 1954 Alcatraz), two games that are worth 3 Dollars to me (Machinarium + Gods Will Be Watching) and two games that would be worth something between 5 and 10 Dollars to me (The Last Federation + Jazzpunk). That's okay. I wouldn't have bought Alcatraz, Machinarium and Gods Will Be Watching during a regular sale, but that's why I like GOG's random sales: You get to play stuff that you wouldn't buy normally. I like almost all genres, so it's almost impossible to get a game I won't like at all. Oh, and I got Lumino City in a trade. That's another game I'd have paid ~10 Dollar for.
tl;dr: Check the tracker thread and THINK before you buy. It's not that much of a gamble if you have a broad gaming taste. If you're exclusively into AAA RPGs and FPSs, the Indie Piñata is not for you.
ps. And yes, I'm too lazy to ask Google :P

I know that it got its name because it's a Feigenschnapps (I was one of those dudes who wore the hat-like bottle caps on a string on his Eastpak). Just wanted to know if Little Coward is a real thing ;) Fig = die Feige

3 USD earns you much better dice at Humble Bundle. Their weekly is good, worth 1 USD, and it gives you three games instead of one random...

They should make it crystal-clear what games you can get from the pinata, and how many are left of each. Reminds me of the Steam 2011-2012 present pile thing, where it turned out that towards the end, the ''pile'' only contained Valve games because the rest had run out. Anyway, it's bad value, especially if you're a GOG long-timer, to put in 3 bucks and most likely get a game you could get for 2,50 on sale. Maybe it'd be nice for kids who aren't picky and would enjoy pretty much anything.

Your bad value isn't everyone's. As most of the complainers in all these threads, you only talk about the negative. Yes, there are games which have been on sale before for less than $3 in the pinata ($2.50 as you say). There are also games which haven't been on sale for less than $5. Some, like me, found it worth the risk to "only" get a 70% discount on a few $9.99 games that I likely could find later for 75% off. But I also got other games... My haul was...
Aarklash Legacy (best sale $3.99)
Blackwell Bundle (best sale $2.99) [already owned - which I gifted to Blotunga for tracking this sale]
Dreamfall Chapters Season Pass (best sale $14.99)
Halfway (best sale $3.89)
Lumino City (best sale $7.99)
Randal's Monday (best sale $5.99)
Republique (best sale $19.99)
Volgarr the Viking (best sale $2.99)
Note, only two titles did I pay more than the best sale and only by a penny and others I made out like a bandit.
Maybe you need to get your facts straight before poo-pooing a sale such as this...
Also note, even without the two games I received with limited numbers (Dreamfall and Republique), I did very well...

If you had only one dice and you got Terraria? Probably would have said different things.
In the end, this is another form of 'gambling', no matter how you sugar-coated it. Strictly not my taste.

The best thing about this sale is the higher activity in the forums and chats. There are lots of people giving their opinions about the sale or searching for a trade.

It was actually no gamble for me at all, as I had already bought the games like Terraria when it was 80% off (best sale $1.99). If you had only one dice and you got Terraria? Probably would have said different things.
In the end, this is another form of 'gambling', no matter how you sugar-coated it. Strictly not my taste.
The point is this is a good deal for some.
The people who it isn't a good deal for are people who are spoiled by bundle prices.
People who have most of their game collection on Steam and don't want repeats.
People who generally dislike indies and their normal genres (platformers, PnC adventures)
If you like a wide variety of games and GoG is your primary collection, the sale is great.

Presumably, the mix of games available from the sale is biased in favor of somewhat cheaper games, but it would be kind of interesting to know what the actual breakdown is.
It's gimmicky and relies upon the same basic mechanic that casinos rely on to keep people putting quarters in the slots.
