Navagon: I wish there was a way to stop GOG from forcing us to buy these things.
I wish they'd stop with th exploitive sales. I don't think anybody really expects to pay too much for a game on top of having it be a random one.

I lost pretty much all my remaining respect for GOG when they started going that Insomnia bullshit and random game sales. I used to expect more out of Mr. Gog, but now, it appears that they don't respect any of their customers.
I got Halfway for $3. Last sale similar to this I got shit, but I'm completely fine with 1 for 2. :D

Fairfox: This is the 'I have lots of disposable income' sale. I don't, and can't afford to just toss three bucks a pop at randomness.
Exactly.

Is it exploitative? It's a gamble. But one which actually seems to be weighted quite heavily in favour of the buyer. Sure if you've got quite a narrow taste in games then you really shouldn't be touching that with a bargepole. But many people stand to gain from it.

Don't get me wrong, I think that there's a lot going wrong with GOG right now. But this is definitely not in the top five problems that I have.
Well, I stocked up my Red Bull resources because I hoped for an insomnia sale, now there`s a sale where it takes 3 days to change the games they are offering. Now I drank too much Red Bull and guess what? I didn`t know that one can run along the walls and ceiling of a room, if one has enuff Red Bull consumed. Amazing!!! :-)
I don't think the pinatas suck.

And in this first round I have had literally nothing to gain personally - the only game I didn't have yet was "sold out" before I reached internet yesterday.

But it's a good list of games. A good way to stash some decent gifts for rainy days. I've only bought 2, but will likely grab a few more on the flip.

Good for folks who like to gift or don't have huge collections. Of course people who use Steam are in a worse position with this sale. And much more broadly speaking as well, imo...

Of course it's exploitive, to some extent all sales are. The ones they've been running though are far worse than anything I've seen elsewhere. Expecting people to take off from work and not sleep for the Insomnia and time machine sales was ridiculous.

Sales like this depend upon the fact that people don't have infinite will power to trick them into buying games they might not otherwise be willing to spend money on.

As far as gambling goes I'm not sure that this is even legal. The pinatas are literally gambling. You might get what you paid, you might not and you might get more than you paid. It shouldn't be possible to wind up paying more for a game through the pinata than if you bought it outright.

Strictly speaking participating in this sale might well be a class C felony making it similar in punishment for possessing child pornography or torturing animals.
May be they thought insomnia sale was too main stream.
Let's do a sale that gives everyone plenty of time to sleep!

They could have added a free critical hit to pinatas like they did to insomnia sale.

Personally I don't like this pinata sale either, as it doesn't cater to people with huge indie game collections who buy from more than one store, but this is going a little far. You don't lose your money when you take part in the sale, you actually get discounted games that are ranging from solid to very good and that are worth more than the asking price. There are no objective blanks, every game could theoretically be a winning 'ticket' for someone. If you 'lose', it's only due to subjective reasons.

I guess it would have been more convenient for all sides though, if you'd have gotten all games as gift codes, so you could have checked what it is before it's added to your account and then you could have given away the games you don't like, so at least someone else would have enjoyed them, instead of them gathering dust on your (hidden) shelf or causing lots of extra work for the support guys.

That's on anyone that actually seriously thought not sleeping or skipping work was a good idea. I mean, really...

The only $3 game on gog is not a pinata possibility.

I deserved it.

I was going to delete the post but I don't want to hide from the fact that from time to time I can be a huge asshole.

For what it's worth, my apologies to the OP.

Yeah, it`s a somnia sale. No hurry, sleep three days long and when you wake up new indies await you. Well, three days is a bit long, especially on a weekend, where everybody would wants new games, instead of waiting until monday.
I Liked the idea, so I bought One.
Got Terraria...
Already have Terraria on Steam.

Anticlimatic delivery ... I almost didn't noticed what the game was.

Still love GoG, but ... did'nt have a great experience.
I'll tell you this, they promised to give me a game or a gift code for $3.00, it's usually much less than what people spend on coffee these days. I ended up with the Blackwell Bundle, a very decent package which I already owned.

If you were to buy it outright it would be $9.99, so I believe there was truth in their advertising. So, if someone is willing to forego their coffee one morning for a bundle of adventure games (if you like games like Sierra's King's Quest), then you still got something!

I will be gifting this code as I already own it. However, I wanted to point out that giving out games within that price point is an interesting idea; however, I would like to know a) exactly what list of games they are choosing from their pool; and b) what they are using as their random number generator. :)
