My guess is that PoE, is too pricey, even at 50%.

The full-gadgets edition are priced to something like theft.

What do you think?

I would say that it's overpriced, for a purely digital release, yes. At least it seems to be a good game, though, and likely offers dozens of hours of solid, old fashioned RPG entertainment.

... In any case, what's the point of this thread again?
Wait for a sale then? ¯\(シ)/¯

Let's make it another thread about the lack of upgrade options. :P

I see.

Hm, Hero Edition at 50% off seems fine to me, one year after release, for a DRM-free game with 40-50+ hours gamelength and different character builds. Just remember how much you'd have had to pay for a new copy of Baldur's Gate at its time of release (or one year after). Okay, it came with a printed manual and a colorful paper box, but that's not what it made it pricey.

Edit: The extras are definitely overpriced, no question about that.

You mean, you can't upgrade to a better version of PoEt, if you've previously bought the standard edition? ( Unless you'd buy the better version at full price... ? )

The production, shipping/handling of physical units is definitely at least in part what made them more expensive, even without the inclusion of optional extras. ( Which were also common back then, especially in PC game boxes. )

Digital distribution is a lot more straightforward and cost efficient, which is why I still refuse to pay the same for a purely digital release as I would have for a traditional physical copy.

It's likely PoEt's pricing turned out so bloated mostly because of Kickstarter. I think they didn't want to sell it for less than the original Kickstarter Tiers, so the backers don't start a shitstorm about it. That, and I suspect the publisher is at least partially to blame for the price point.

I think it's a good game but not really worth much beyond $40 for the whole package (Pillars of Eternity plus all DLC), maybe even a bit less. Currently it's not yet there but it will and it's not really difficult to wait with all these other cool games out there.
I bought the hero edition last time when it was on sale, mainly because the game got a native Linux version.
I will buy the expansions when on sale too, but i will not buy into the more expensive versions of the main game. The extras is simply not worth it, IMHO.

It is a polished game so price tag is okay.

Save 2-5$ every month and you could pick PoE hero edition after 6-7 months from sale or promo. (I use this every timea new game gets launched.Till then you can keep clearing your backlog.)

Or you can ask for a trade since some people may be still have an extra copy of Kickstarter edition left. (I got Wasteland 2 and Pillars of Eternity Kickstarter Hero Edition in that way.)

Or if you are a trustworthy trader then ask someone to gift it to you and you will give him multiple cheap games from upcoming sales (Like easy monthly installments. Everythings remains same. Only difference is you use games instead of money. I have done this few times and it works.)

Or be active in gog community. Help people. Tell us a joke or two. Be nice. And someone will gift it to you.

Or let the karma shine upon you. And you may get it unexpectedly in a giveaway or while trying an orphan code. (I got The Witcher 3 in that way. Everyone was trying to redeem code on GOG while I tried it to redeem on Nvidia!!)
No, not really. Not given what you're getting. But there are a lot of similar games that are underpriced. That doesn't help improve the perception of value for money in this case.
Even at a 50% discount the hero edition costs more than I'm willing to pay for a digitally released game. So I guess I'll have to wait for a 75% discount. But that's okay, I have plenty of other games to play.
Wait for a sale. Royal edition is definitely to expensive since all stuff is just digital + not a complete edition since it does not include dlc. Just wait for a 75-80% in a year or so. Its already a very old game so the price will start to fall. Eitherway the royal version is being sold for 40€ in retail for some time now so gog's sale price at the moment is only realistic price for that version. It will definitely drop to 10-20€ in a year or two so there is no rush to get it. Same as for Witcher 3.

PoE Hero edition is easily worth the $22.49 price on the current sale especially if one has enjoyed any of the Infinity Engine games. Keep in mind that the original Baldur's Gate cost around $50 when first released back in Dec 1998. Also keep in mind this is coming from someone who usually refuses to pay more than $6 for a digitally released game.

Is a couple of pence (cents) worth of plastic and a printed epilepsy warning passing itself off as a manual really worth that much to you? Are your shelves depressingly barren, is that it?
