Anyone backed anything on that platform?. I vaguely remember negative comments in the past....

I'll wait for italian localization Stretch goals. I don't want to play a game with so much text in english... I've done it for Dragonfall and it was not a funny experience (I like Shadowrun Dragonfall, but read all that text in english was not easy when I was tired).
Also since Torment has decided to eliminate the Italian translation promised ... I do not know if I can trust crowfunding anymore... but since I don't remember Obsidian say something and do something else maybe I will trust them.
I usually wait and buy the final product... but since I really love PoE, maybe, if there will be a Stretch goal for my language, maybe, I will make an exception.

Also I like the price, 29 dollars for a new game it is not that bad.

If they don't make a translation, I will wait for a < 5€ sale.

Most of the negative comments were from people upset that Schafer was taking in still more money without having produced a game. But given that Kickstarter takes 10% off the top, it's understandable that Obsidian and InXile figured they had better ways to reduce overhead.

I don't think Fig is demonstrably worse than Kickstarter, but it doesn't have a record of success yet, either. Makes sense to be cautious, but the really big-name projects like this and Wastelands are probably sure things.

I have nothing against Fig, but I don't trust Obsidian/Paradox.
Kickstarter of the first PoE left me with the basic version of the game without the option to upgrade.

I think many of the negative feelings toward Fig is that it's potentially a conflict of interest having people on the site's board run their campaigns through it, so there were for example some raised eyebrows when Psychonauts 2 had its campaign silently extended (supposedly it was a bug or something that got fixed mid-campaign, but it didn't look good regardless). Obsidian's CEO is also on that board, so color me skeptical about ponying up when the developers are likely only accountable to themselves and their buddies. It'll probably work out fine for those who pledge, but still.

I've also heard that the "investing" they allow is stacked heavily against the people putting money into it, but don't remember where I saw that, and it's not like Kickstarter is any more consumer-friendly in general given how many people have gotten away with running off with backer money or underdelivering.

I'd put ducats to dollars that comments like that are just people with no idea what they're saying making stuff up. You can get the links to the SEC filings for the projects directly from the project pages, and if there had been any actual inconsistencies, you can be sure that everyone would have heard about them by now.

It's an investment. You can lose money. Perhaps some projects completed and sold poorly, and people who didn't know what they were anteing up for felt they had been wronged. I looked at their breakdowns and it looks like any game that sells very well will provide solid RoI. Any game that sells moderately will probably get your investment back.

In their recent post in the comments section Obsidian implied there will be some sort of PoE1 backer discount system. So, if there are any PoE backers here, you sould porbably wait for that.

I received a $5 "Fig Subscriber Discount" link from the Fig newsletter about 12 hours ago, even though I haven't backed anything on Fig yet.
I also got a $5 discount link in an email from newsletters@obsidian.net (backed original PoE on Kickstarter) about 6 hours ago.
Guess they're the same thing...

Same deal with Wasteland 3, using this instead of Kickstarter is a bad idea, less publicity, less people pledging because of unfamilarity with fig and reluctance to sign up there, this won't get as much as PoE did.

I've backed it to get a collectors edition, don't really see much difference in backing the game on fig or kickstarter.

With nearly 1M raised already, and well over 28 days still to go, I suspect they're going to raise quite a bit more than PoE did (almost 4M). They very much managed to deliver on PoE, and are now going to reap the benefits from that, and I strongly suspect that the fundraising platform won't matter much for that.

I agree, it's tough not being able to read in your native tongue when there is so much text. Out of curiosity, would you buy it if all English text had audio?

I was a backer and from all the games I've backed till now, this is the only one I finished. I'll have to give Wasteland II and D:OS another try (and I can't play the Director's Cuts or Torment because of my system =( )
I liked the game, but I can't say I was thaaaaat absorbed by the lore and the world. I'm going to think about it, but I'll probably back at least the normal digital version. Still enough time to see if I like the updates and the stretch goals. The premise sounds pretty good already. Guess that was a nice way to get rid of the Stronghold lol You sure it's the same thing and you didn't get a $10 total discount? :D

Just checked my mail, I got a code too. Might reconsider going for the Deluxe Digital tier. Cuz of the pet. Yeah yeah, I know...:D
