You know, it's funny how a DRM free platform has its users every move reported to them even without having Galaxy installed.

And it's not even encrypted.

[RemovedMyHostname].56129 > 194.110.240.210.syslog: [udp sum ok] SYSLOG, length: 354

Msg: 1 2019-12-05T14:11:37.826164+00:00 [Removed] galaxy e254a542 galaxy1 - (1.100.2.0, 50144443643664262) [GalaxyTranslator] InitCommon: clientID=[Removed] clientSecret=[Removed] configFilePath=., galaxyPeerPath=, throwExceptions=1: error=Gog Error: RuntimeError: Could not start GalaxyService

If Galaxy is installed, it gets worse, even if Galaxy is not started.

Can you please stop that ?

e.t. phone home
What game is that?
If it's something that has a multiplayer mode relying on Galaxy it would explain this behaviour.

Spilling unencrypted status information through the internet can only be explained by GOG giving a toss.

And no, it isn't an MP game. The sole reason for this in the first place is, that GOG tries to spy on my gaming behaviour.

Mister E.T. pities fools who don't phone home.
it could be nice, if you would add some additional info. E.g - which game has shown that behavior and on which platform (windows/mac/linux via wine).

But yeah, you are welcome

That’s a misquote, he was pointing to a poster for Weird Science saying “ET got bone”.

For op, uninstall galaxy, then download offline installers. No phone home, nor internet requirement, win!

Ah. Nice thread. Too bad this topic gets no attention. Especially for the sloppy potential data leakage of GOGs very own code, and not someone elses.

I'll pop over to your thread and post some details.

Quoting myself:
"... without having Galaxy installed. "
"If Galaxy is installed, it gets worse, even if Galaxy is not started. "

This is with offline installers, and Galaxy not installed.

I don't understand much from that log, but:
"throwExceptions=1: error=Gog Error: RuntimeError: Could not start GalaxyService"
Looks like an error report maybe?

I know what it is, and what it means :)

It's more about they do it unencrypted over the internet, potentially for all to see -- all but me. They don't even tell me about this. How's that helpful ? Will they give me a call and tell me that when starting one of my games they run into a problem reporting my gaming activity to themselvest ? :o)

Oh, so your saying a computer with no galaxy installed is still trying to phone home. What game, as if so that is very bad. For those of us who do not use galaxy this should not, in any circumstances be happening.

Edit, just seen the other thread. Raise a support ticket, that should be addressed. The offline installers should be exactly that, offline. If they are not I am not going to be happy, regardless of what it sending.

Ah, I see and I agree.

Can someone explain this in "laymen's terms?"

I am startled by some of what's being said here, but admit I'm not quite able to follow.
I have installed F: NV myself, and it is quite true, the game will not start without galaxy.dll present. Therefore the GOG version has requirements not found in any other version. It could be doing anything, it could interest with future modding, who knows. Simply put, this is highly unacceptable. I specifically do not want any such things on my machine, be them drm, spyware, adware, trojans or any other unnecessary software.
Now I do remember some years back this was brought up before and got stated that these were dead end dlls which do nothing unless you install galaxy specifically for those who might connect galaxy later. However if the OP is correct then this is not true.
This seriously impacts gogs image and should be updated immediately, no Galaxy means NO Galaxy.
