Hello everyone,
I saw threads of other YouTube channels, such as It's a Pixel THING, Top Hats and Champagne and A HomeMade Production and thought, why not have one for my channel?
I’m Phil, my channel is PhilsComputerLab: https://www.youtube.com/c/philscomputerlab
My videos are about playing older PC games, either on modern machines or on retro PCs.
A lot of content has to do with GOG. For example, I do these Tweak Guides, which are a bit technical, but are all about making GOG games looks and sound a little bit nicer. I’m picky about things such as aspect ratio or MIDI for improved music in older DOS games.
With Windows XP support potentially being phased out by Steam, DRM free games will soon become very important. So GOG is a great source for retro games, hopefully this will continue to grow.
Here is the GOG Tweak Guide playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5T8bmLxd_T3YkOUep7KmcSMdvMZPtk5b
Featuring games such as Space Quest, Wing Commander, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Strike Commander, Incoming, Quake, Doom…
I also “specialise” on getting GOG games to run on real retro PC, be it MS-DOS, Windows 98 with 3dfx Voodoo or Windows XP.
Some good videos are:
How to make old games look better: https://youtu.be/P2vnKDeVO8g
Playing GOG.com DOSBox Games on DOS Retro Gaming PC: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5T8bmLxd_T1Op-FucLWr8CcKzUs-KLrp
How to install GOG games on Windows 98: https://youtu.be/dFBKwdtJ6uA
My favourite videos however are about building real retro computers. I cover everything, from what parts you could choose, putting it together, installing MS-DOS or Windows, drivers and whatnot. Featured are screen captures of these old games, worth checking out just for nostalgic reasons.
Some videos that might be worth checking out:
Building a fast 386 DOS Gaming PC with modern parts: https://youtu.be/YjGWj8d_gMk
Building a 486 with modern parts: https://youtu.be/YHIVGxNnkbA
10 Reasons for Pentium 4 Windows 98 DOS Retro Gaming PC: https://youtu.be/rr2r_mvKfuQ
Building a 4 in 1 Retro Gaming PC: https://youtu.be/fcAqRbFFQPU
Building the Ultimate 3dfx Voodoo 5 Glide Gaming PC: https://youtu.be/1DG0E4srIuA
Building an AMD Athlon 64 Retro Gaming PC Windows XP: https://youtu.be/eggK_fS-70E
Building fast Slot 1 Pentium III Retro Gaming PC: https://youtu.be/wd9lQ8o_NKI
I have a LOT of stuff planned for 2016. I aim for one video every week on Wednesday or Thursday. Most of my videos are PC gaming related, but I do other videos on occasions, for example I am doing a video series on the Mist FPGA computer: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5T8bmLxd_T2IvI3veFMRgL3EvWmaQCec
So please check out my channel and hopefully you like the things I do and looking forward to lots of videos for 2016
Phil
