MS really gets on my nerves lately. Good thing is I don't have my Win7 computer connected to the internet (I have the Linux one for that job) so no updates or anything ever, although i should warn my less tech inclined friends and relatives about all that.

You'd think in such large volumes, it'd be devalued.

mmmm, I must be living in another dimension as I have two PC's under Win 8.1 set on automatic updates and they're still "safe"....

Maybe it's the intitial trick (don't remember how) I did to kill the win10 pop-ups forever which prevents me from OS swapping....

BUT.....
.......The big question would be: Do these people said "yes" to the windows 10 reservation/booking months earlier? (sorry I don't remember the word in English) If so, that clarifies a lot.....

I'm going to say no they didn't reserve a slot. Microsoft is trying to push everyone to be using Windows 10, regardless if you are a pirate, user, business, etc. They wanted everyone to jump ship and get on their platform, but they've failed to take over the full market, so now they are going to push harder where it's no longer optional. 'You'll miss out on features' and other stuff, wanting to get the world addicted to their Windows Store (and a slice of 30%+ of all money for all software forever), and their default privacy options where they are mining people's data and have access to pretty much everything, things that they weren't allowed to do previously (or didn't).

I'm happy about all the BS Microsoft is doing atm, you'll all be penguins soon. ;)

At risk of crushing your penguin army theory, I think there is a very good chance 95% of Windows users are going to allow MS to wall up the platform. The problems are too existential/hypothetical, require too much forward thinking, and are perhaps too subtle for a lot of people to get their head around.

A lot of people just want to know how to work something. Knowing why it works that way and getting into the conspiracies of why it should be better is something I think most people aren't all that concerned with. I'm not calling people ignorant or stupid, just that not everyone is as into computers and the computing industry as a lot of us are.

I'm betting there is a lot of similar, shady stuff goes on in a lot of industries that we know nothing about. We just know that that thing we want is on the store shelf and it cost $9.99. How it got there, why it was made, and who got screwed in the deal is all information we don't have.

MS is basically trying to turn their platform into what all the others already are. People have freely accepted a lot of what MS is trying to do elsewhere, so it's not hard to imagine a lot of people will up and let them do it.

As for the other 5%, 90% of them/us will probably cave for one reason or another. Being boxed out of what is relevant gets to a big problem. Heck, I have Win10 on a laptop just because I had to have access to the Edge browser for testing Edge browser compatibility. One need is all it took me to cave. A lot of people are going to have one need that they can't get around.

I disagree completely. These people probably DID reserve a slot. Maybe not on purpose. But after the very first kb3035583 update made it's way onto my computer and I took the steps to get rid of it, I have gotten nothing else.

As I understand, every computer TRIES to pre-download the Windows 10 installation files even if it didn't do the update. This contradicts the need for any slots at all.

I had been using window 8 for about 1 year before I had enough to dual boot Ubuntu + Win7.

I would have gone Window 10 as Cortana seems interesting to me, but after all the Microsoft BS. And the things that Microsoft tries to sneak into Window 7 that I have to disable auto-update.

I am pissed off enough that if future games does not come to Window 7 or Linux and need Window 10, I will not bother. There is already thousands of games playable on Window 7 that I cannot finish them in my lifetime.

While not exactly a Penguins, I become a mix blood.

New things may flop too. Just like Window 8 4 years ago does not gain as much traction as Window 7. But Window 7 dethrone XP for market share even when XP service life is still active.

Nope, it is not about tech development, it is about products that most customers are happy with.

You can always keep your Window 10, nobody will stop you from using Window 10.
