Last year adamhm and several others of the GOG Linux community were very helpful in assisting with my decision to transition to Linux. This year I wanted to give a little back the community and hopefully inspire more gamers to consider Linux as well. The amount of helpfulness and support I've seen among the Linux community has been inspiring all on it's own. The number of games they have worked hard to make available on Linux, whether thru wrappers or other means, and the number and variety of games now compatible with Linux amazed me.

If you are not a Linux user (yet) please feel free to ask questions, although as a newb I'll gratefully leave the answering up to our Linux community gurus. :)

The Giveaway will run until the 1st of January, 2018 at 20:00 UTC, and more games may be added. If any wish to donate games I will gladly add them to the list and credit the donor (unless you indicate you wish to be anonymous), but please make sure all games work with Linux. Winners will not be posted but will receive keys via PM, so make sure your chat settings are set to all users. If I cannot send you the key within 3 days your entry will be disqualified.

Rules:
- As a lurker myself I understand a lower rep, but you are required to have an acct that is at least 2 months old.
- As stated, if your chat settings do not allow me to contact you within 3 days from end of giveaway, your entry will be
disqualified.
- Winners will be selected randomly and only after the giveaway period stated above has ended.
- You may list multiple games in order preferred, but each winner will receive only 1 prize - the most preferred of the

Not In but I do love penguins. I watched a thing about them on APL just last night. One can go out fishing, come back to a patch of rock full of literally thousands and thousands of other very noisy penguins, and immediately pin point it's babies by the sound of their squeaks.

I love penguins too.

Anyway we're a FreeBSD shop. Getting Nginx to run on it was not a joy but it worked finally.

What distro do you use? Why did you decided to switch - could you explain your decision?

I love Linux for its simplicity, configurability and safety. I always recommend, but I never insist. What is really sad - there is a lot of reasons people still prefer to pay for Windows... and a lot of these reasons are no longer valid! :D Especially since my mum become a happy Lubuntu user! ;))

Not in, but +1 for the giveaway and penguins. I have never been able to get this game to fully work with no issues, in Windows 7, Windows 10, or any Linux distro I've used. You're already a guru in my eyes.

To answer your questions: Cinnamint - a.k.a. Distro: Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnamon 64-bit

The decision to change was influenced by the things you mentioned: simplicity - the ease of use for my style, configurability - the ease of configuring it for intuitive use, and controllability. The wife & I were getting increasingly frustrated with Windows, and increasingly with where the execs are dictating its heading; towards you won't own your OS but only rent it at a cost to be dictated by them, license renewal dictated by them, and ways you store your data potentially dictated by them. As older software engineer/security debugger team we find this trend concerning. We prefer to control our own OS, data and configurations thank you, and we definitely prefer to control when it 'calls home' and what is allowed to be downloaded. As old gamers it had been our misconception about the lack of games working within Linux that had stopped us, until we were soundly disabused of that notion here. :) The last reason was a more personal one - curiousity/personal growth, the potential to expand our learning and experiment. What ended up surprising us has become a reason all its own ... the enthusiastic supportiveness, encouragement, openess and sharing of the Linux community itself.

As I said I've played most of these. Hard West I have not, but GOG has a Linux version. Oblivion I just got myself this sale, but trust adamhm's wrapper will work as I have eagerly waited for this to come to Linux. I played and enjoyed Septerra Core a long time ago and took it on faith (and the recommendation of a colleague) that GOG's version for Linux (Ubuntu 14.04, Ubuntu 16.04) worked. Can someone in the Linux community verify please? If not I will gladly donate that one to the GOG Community Giveaway and replace it with another game.

No issue (just getting the panic attack under control here), :p I'm still learning here, and have no qualms admitting it. .

Sorry, I just can't get behind being a fan of a Boston team. Go Leafs.

I just downloaded & installed the game and it seems to run more or less flawlessly. It does make my laptop fans scream and I think the bottom part of the game window (where the hud buttons would be if you hover your mouse there) becomes invisible when I click around on the map. But it's back to normal as soon as I release the mouse button.
